Slamman
Well, as they announce more and more shows on local radio, what SEEMED like a Stones tour announcement was only that of a gig by a tribute act called Satisfaction. I don't know if judging from the advert music cues, one would see the similarities in a good or bad way, but I had heard it from another room and did think it was an ad for the Stones playing locally. Anyway, You can add any tribute bands who tour heavily in your area and if they are any good as a substitute....here. Once such act that tours here relentlessly is called Zed Leppelin. Hate their name, but they try and resurrect the Zep's live feel... and former glory. Of course, Australian Pink Floyd go without question....and AC/DC tribute bands are not hard to find, as well as Ozzy and Sabbath, but choose some you feel are quite good in place of the real deal.... Waddy
I swear to god I looked at the topic and automatically knew who posted it. Thats good for you. If you have nothing to add however... @Topic - One of my favorite bands ever were the Stone Roses. They have a great tribute band 'The Clone Roses' Really good. Seen them about 4 times now and hopefully another time in April. Also as sad as it may seem. I went to a wedding last year and the Abba tribute band were f*cking awesome. So similar it was spooky. Mister Pink
Yeah Slamman this all could have went into your Coming To A Venue Near You (or something like that) topic. Anywho, I've seen a Jimi Hendrix Tribute, the L.A. Doors (about 3 times), The Classic Beatles, Stairway to Zeppelin (about 3 times too). These tribute acts used to play in a old style theatre in Dublin City centre. It was part of the 'Midnight at the Olympia' gigs. You'd giet sh*t-faced before and by the time it's midnight everyone would be pissed drunk. Spliffs would be passed all over the place before the smoking ban. This is place.. Fun memories... Slamman
I'm not keeping track of all the threads, I just glance over what I may have missed in the immediate future, but here, in my local scene, we seem to LACK from all the influence that Prince bestowed upon our Twin Towns. I believe that being FUNK-Rock as he was, he helped the scene in a much larger capacity... I'm speaking of the local music ORIGINAL artists. Everywhere you'll hear that cover bands are what make it into club bookings, they get the gigs, rain or shine. I think it's sad that a FM station like Jack is booking only cover acts as a celebration gig, however, they are making it affordable as such! Slamman
If you can recommend the best ones you've seen...give them proper mention. I mentioned an opening band some years ago called Sleeping Dogs in the Midwest, USA, never heard of them after the gig, I think it was opening for Richie Blackmore's BlackKnight, or whatever project he had going. They did covers but very well... Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here I recall was splendid!
