OK, usually I refrain from opening stupid threads, but in this case I made an exception. I would like to see things from your perspective.

 

Me thinks the choices have covered everything (or at least). You have optimistic, realistic, pessimistic and whatnot options.

 

All in all, I would have to opt for a "No, a plain and simple NO!" even though you have to appreciate that this answer holds a rather large amount of grudge, disappointment, disposed beliefs, chaotic lawful and chaotic good emotions, self-righteousness and so on.

 

All in all, I believe we should get a proper release or none at all. It the PC gaming market seems lucrative enough for them, they should publish, if not ... well then, sod it.

I don't think they will be simultaneous, because of porting, and after some of the feedback with IV, they won't make the mistake of a rushed port again.

I think that R* still doesn't see the value of Pc gamers yet. We're still considered as a minor console compared with the "big 3" because they don't make as much profit on us due to piracy. They also don't think outside the box enough to realise that if they let us make mods that worked on the console version of the game then we would provide a completely alternate resource. (Unreal Tournament 3 does and I think its a great idea for companies and gamers alike)

 

And 1 more thing, how many of us went and bought it for console before we bought it for PC. Tons of us. That's like double sales for them. Makes sense to me.

No, we will get screwed over again. Rockstar only cares about the money. That's what the release of GTA:IV has proven: first on the consoles (to get the money from sony & microsoft), Ofcourse, if I were Rockstar, I would have done the same thing: collect a sh*tload of money for doing nothing... Isn't that great?

 

And when they finally released the PC version... bad memory-management, bad multiplayer -no anticheat!-, terrible framerate even on high-end rigs, an awful amount of bloatware -GFWL, Rockstar Social Club-

 

So far two patches have been released and don't get me wrong: I'm happy with the patches. But the game should've been like this when it came out! (and even better! why does GTA:IV run worse than Crysis on my rig?!)

 

Knowing Rockstar, we should be happy when we even get GTA:V for the PC. They'll think twice about releasing such a product. It hasn't been good for their reputation. (My guess is that when they do release the next GTA for the PC, sales will be bad. And guess what? R* will blame piracy)

but it's more out of hope than confidence. I really do wish that R* North view the PC gaming market seriously as an asset, rather than a third wheel. GTA IV PC would've gotten at least 5 times more copies sold if it was released at the same day, or even (at most) a month later, as the consoles.

Well I like to think I can top all the negativism, I didn't vote any of the polls because the option I wanted to vote for wasn't there . I think we are looking at a worse situation than "non-simultaneous" release, the horrendous sales (it doesn't matter why) of the PC version has pretty much sealed the PC GTA's fate. I would be highly surprised if we ever see another GTA on the PC after this, I naturally hope I am wrong because I truly hate this game on the console and if there is no PC gta then f*ck it I aint bothering with the franchise.

But there is a slight chance of IV being on PC as they ported the RAGE engine to PC, and it wouldn't be worth their effort and money if they only ported it for one game.

 

Then again, it was probably a half assed port, so it probably won't bother them .

 

If they don't release it for the PC, f*ck it. I'll buy other games, it's not like the PC gamers are the ones losing out. Some other developer would probably come out with a GTA clone for the PC to fill the empty spot Rockstar left if they decide to stop with the PC games, and I'll buy that.

 

Honestly, I'd like for the next GTAs to be on PC and to have a simultaneous release and get all the perks that 360 users have, but if they don't care, I don't give a f*ck either. There are always other games out there.

Currently its create a game for the console, then try and add features and graphical improvements for the PC.

 

What they should be doing is making games for the PC, then reducing features and turning down graphics for consoles. Which would be easier.

I went through this same crap with UT3 also...... it looks to me like game developers across most of the industry are looking for an easy buck these days and they aren't getting it from the PC community..... so since they cant milk us like they can the console users they are pretty much snubbing the PC people.

Yeah what's with all this pessimism surrounding the next GTA game? Everyone knows how easily Rockstar falls to the temptation of making a quick buck. Despite GTA being ruined by it being developed for console now...despite PC sales severely lacking due to a focused marketing effort and a promise for exclusivity for consoles, and a half-year delay for the PC version...and despite Sony and Microsoft paying money to Rockstar so that they each receive varying levels of exclusivity with the series...Rockstar still knows that a PC version can and will return money for them.

 

If you don't agree with what I've said there, and/or hold any doubt over the future of GTA on the PC, then you can do one simple thing - BOYCOTT ANY/ALL CONSOLE VERSIONS OF GRAND THEFT AUTO.

Mr. Deviant, that's me And I feel you, I have intentionally paced myself with the game (I did the first Pegorino mission only yesterday), playing it only here and there just to try and hold on to that GTA sensation that now is pretty much gone.

 

Anyway, it's obvious that there will be more GTA's on PC as long as RAGE is the game engine of preference. Only one thing I hope for (no, not the simultaneous release) and that's more GTA in GTA and less of Sims and whatnot features.

The option I wanted was "There will be no more GTA's on the PC" Which is a depressing thought really that GTA 4 will be the swan song of the franchise on the PC. There are obviously lots of reasons for this and the blame game could go on all day and not help that much. I am still slightly optimistic the fact that we haven't heard Rockstar bitching about PC sales may be a clue that they are happy with the numbers. However the next GTA is probably 2 years away on the consoles and 3 years away on the PC so a lot can change before then

 

I think in many ways I am just getting fed up of the whole thing, the delaying of the game on the PC, the obvious whoring to MS with the DLC. I am not that interested in the DLC myself but I find it abhorrent that 50% of the GTA fanbase can't access it cos of some sh*t deal. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I am beginning to wonder why I even bother with Rockstar games.

Ohhhhhhhh you having a dig at me fella Nah I won't be doing that again. I felt I should at least just this once give GTA a go on the console. I tried it and didn't like it, I never thought much to GTA 4 on the consoles, but I love the PC version and can't stop playing it. So I learnt my lesson and will not be eager to repeat my mistakes again. Even if Rockstar came out and said "there will be NO pc version" I still won't bother with the console version of the next game.

I know my comment(s) look that way and, while I don't condone your actions with the XBox360 version of GTA IV, it's not like it's something you do often, and you still bought the PC version (at-least once).

 

The main culprits (i.e. "gamers" with blood on their hands) that I'm referring to are the thousands (tens or hundreds of thousands) who bought the console version of every Grand Theft Auto game since The Great GTA Depression (GTA III in 2001), and then didn't bother to buy it for PC...and furthermore still wonder why the console version gets all the attention.

 

Dirty deals aside, Rockstar can see that everybody jumps on the console version and doesn't wait for the PC version, so they focus 99% of their time and money on the console version. They don't think about how it was their original console exclusivity deal with Sony in 2000 that kicked off this dreadful trend. They don't stop to think how well the game would do if they developed and hyped a PC version from day-1. They simply assume that the console crowd is basically the only crowd for Grand Theft Auto - all because they remember that when they released GTA III on the PlayStation 2 first, only PlayStation 2 gamers bought it......they were obviously surprised at this statistic.

Well to my credit I did buy TWO copies of the PC version So that balances things out a little bit. I would have paid Rockstar even more money for the PC version but for some bizarre reason they came to the conclusion that PC gamers didn't want the Special Edition. Oh well more fool them I guess and technically if you think about it I actually cost MS money because I never bought any other games for the sh*tbox .

 

Still if we are trying to look at it in a positive way there is always a chance the next GTA may get a simultaneous release. We have to remember that whilst we love the GTA franchise, MS and Sony only care about it for the numbers. So that might make them think twice about throwing money Rockstars way next time.

These would be only the PC gamers who decided to go for a console version because they caved in after all the false hype. I don't think there are more then a few hundreds of thousand of those. Don't forget that core PC gamers are not like us endangered few on these boards They are more easy going, with "I'll get it when it's out" type of thinking. I mean, if you went for a rather major investment (console+game+maybe a new TV) for just one game then you have some serious issues. No pun intended, Charmers

IMO GTA has nothing to do with it. Console sales this time around are low due to several reasons ranging from economical depression to an ever aging gaming base that is just getting older and it's hard to replace them with fresh troops.

 

Also remember, MS has loads of good PC earned money to waste on consoles. Especially with Windows7 underway.

I was just reading parts of a recent Dan Houser interview, and it seems this guy either has nothing between his ears, or he really loves talking up the consoles...

 

 

We wanted it to be tightly focused and really detailed and be able to see his fingers and see his brow and see his face and see him in the game looking upset or looking angry. We thought that was what the leap to PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 was all about. It was all very carefully thought through and we tried to permeate that through to all aspects of game design experience, but it was this idea of high definition and what that really meant.

On PS1, you could do 3-D but on a corridor or you could do top down if you wanted to go open world, as we did in "GTA I" and "II." On PS2, it was about, "You can have 3-D environments that you can traverse like it was a proper environment. It’s not a film set anymore, it’s not a backdrop, it’s an environment. You see that hill, you can go to it." That’s what we thought PS2 was about. On PS3 or 360, we think it’s all about detail. For that detail to work, for this game and these characters, it needed a real coherent kind of structure and linking between things you can do.

My PS3 is an expensive Blue Ray player with a sh*tload of gamepad remotes. I was a fool to buy GTA 4 for the PS3. I was a bigger fool for buying the PS3 for GTA 4! I had to have it since it wasnt on PC. I guess I contributed to them getting sales on the consoles. I promise never again.

 

If a new GTA comes out and it aint on the PC......I aint buyin it.
