GTA_Vista
No, no no! Its not the game, trust me, I played it on XP 32 bit and although it looked and played well enough it suffered the terminal slowdowns. Since upgrading to Vista 64bit it plays like a dream on the same hardware. In short AMD 5000+ Dual Core 64 4GB 800Hz ram GF 8600GT Thinking of upping to quad myself shortly. GTA_Vista
Thats what I mean, something about XP 32bit, it just dont like it, it might work fine, then go crazy slow, but thn again im sure some folk are using it fine but for me it only works flawlessly on Vista 64. Psymn321
Mine was working fine till a week ago too. Now i get stuttering, and you (OP) are a prime candidate to test my (partial) solution. I assume that the game runs ok for a while when you first load. After a while i get stuttering framerates (tho i dont freeze completely), then i do something that sounds illogical, start recording with fraps. Im using the lowest settings in fraps @ 30fps, to limit the cpu/hd load and the game can go from choppy and uneven framerates to smooth framerates that are just 4/5 lower than normal. So if you can spare a few fps when its running ok (i think you can with that machine), then please try fraps to see if you are getting the same problem as me. Ive now had many hours of playable gameplay and deleted ~300Gb of unwanted video data. Edited February 17, 2009 by Psymn321
Gen0cide_
I'm on Vista 64 running an 8800GT and an AMD X2 6000+ and I have this issue rarely after playing for a long time, or going through the underground train tunnels very very fast in a handling-modified bike at about 150 for a bit. I think its a LOD thing where you're travelling so fast that you speed out of the game before it can load. Suffice to say, after I've stopped, there still isn't any models or texturing, but sometimes there's lampposts.
mkey82
At first I had these issues when installing/reinstalling several versions of GPU drivers. When I do a format and a fresh install, the game runs OK most of the time. After a few hours it starts slowing down, with more pop-up and some stutter. Although, it doesn't bog down like it used to before. It would start to freeze (single digit FPS) and it was usually easy to fix with a ALT+TAB out and back into the game. I haven't seen this sort of behavior in a while do. Maybe the recent fresh windows install had something to do with it.
