As this forum grows I fear it will spawn the same issue and misconceptions over and over. As an opinion based again on interviews with Rockstar North (RN) over the development from day one, I tried to stay on top of it, read most of them....

The idea with DLC is that the Internet download capacity adds a new dimension to Grand Theft Auto that RN has not tried before.

People are still thinking that Microsoft offered the $50 Million to get the only REAL DLC and that there would be no DLC without MS's offering the funds in question.

The reality I preach is based on what I read from the RN nest, that DLC is a way to test, in the real world, how well the business model works, When it comes to RN, they have a personal interest in developing the franchise in a way that's personal. So despite it being a business model not written in stone, just yet.... There gaming additions are coming to fruition in short order, as they are trying things they haven't done before.

RN's showing to this point seems to speak volumes of their craft alone...they rise to the challenge they present to themselves and game players of the series like us.

This undoubtedly leads to fanboy fueding. I saw a veteran declaring that MS offered the money to RN, and they developed the DLC solely with that gesture. However, nice Fanboy spin on it, but the way I heard it come about is it was offered to Sony, turned down, then offered to MS.

My feeling is they accepted the price offered for it, not setting the price themselves! They also only get two exclusives, and as people can see, those episodes are very nicely done. It bodes well to the overall business model as mentioned.

All the platforms should allow the same download capacity, unless I missed something someone pointed out.

Again, RN won't tell you details that are strictly inside marketing ones, however, I think given the extent of work in all regard within the rather small studios of RN, it's fair to suggest that the DLC was required to be started on one platform only due to the details and technical hurdles.

I think this is all lost sight of in the hub-bub on display here often.

Think about how the staggering of the work means it could very well roll out to others over some time. It's not like this is all, this is it. Some suggest that, however, I never gave that idea any mind.

The reason declared about Sony rejecting is their plans for Internet weren't strongly rooted in the supported addition download that RN have in mind... They certainly plan to set a bar for all games following in it's wake. I think they can live up to that, given their expertise

So your saying Rockstar come up to Sony and said we've got some DLC for GTA IV, do you want the exclusive rights? and Sony replied back with no?

I don't believe that.

You got any links/sources to back these theories up?

If you construct a search for the Houser's interviews conducted since the game was on the drawing board, you'd find the most viable answers to questions... The ones one can bank upon.

I won't say RN can't decide that something they had planned would get scrapped and they choose a different direction with the games, but I will say that this DLC development seemed to me a "Trial by Fire" where the work they do is getting actually put out to the public, This is not something they felt truly confident in, other then Sam Houser stating he planned that GTA4 would have planned longevity and support, that is part of the DLC equation.

the way I heard it come about is it was offered to Sony, turned down, then offered to MS.

If thats actually true it could explain why sony was so sure the dlc is timed.

Sony balked at paying for it because of its arrogance. For you PS3 users let me give you a run down on what really happened..

Rockstar was in trouble financially. They needed money to finish GTA 4. Microsoft Offered up 50 Million for exclusive access. Rockstar then in turn asked Sony to counter the offer which Sony said No.. Now lets reason why they said no..

1. Sony said before the nextgen consoles were out and they would be shipping a year behind Microsoft that the Next Gen would not start untill they said so..

2. Sony was coming off a 85% market share in which case they were of the opinion that they would again have the same market share of the last gen and Rockstar would be foolish to sign any agreement which locked out the PS3. Pure Arrogance!

3. Sony claimed it could deliver a console with no games and sell it for 600.00 bucks and it would sell because of the Sony brand name.

4. Sony miscalculated as did Microsoft how popular the Wii would become and how much that would cut into their respective market shares.

5. Sony banked everything on bluray feeling the added bonus of having it added would in fact sell more consoles to people looking for a bluray player and game machine for the kids. It did not work. Cost is always a trump card and is why the PS3 launch was so troubled.

Listen PS3 users I have no beef with any of you. I actually had a PS2 last gen. I am no fanboy of any sort. I do not own a PS3 this gen because of the initial cost and then the fact that nothing Sony has delivered has interested me. Killzone 2 looks like a good game as does MGS4 which almost had me buy one. My beef was with Sony and how it marketed the PS3. The core of any gaming machine should be the games it has and Sony risked too much on the Cell and Bluray which handicapped it from the very get go.

Sony strong armed every third party developer because they felt they did not need to secure any exclusives beyond thier own in house companies. Meanwhile Microsoft being the underdog went after sonys biggest titles and GTA was the biggest one they got and a game changer looking at it now with Lost and Damned DLC.

There is no timed exclusive. Rockstar said and I quote from the start 1 year before GTA 4 was released.

"The definitive version of GTA 4 will be on the Xbox 360"

Does that sound like a timed exclusive? No it does not!

That's exactly right. I will guarantee R* was in some sort of finanical trouble.

I doubt they needed money to finish GTA IV. I bet they needed money to market it more efficiently though.

People will come by and say " R* IS THE RICHAEST COMPANY IN AMERICA THEUY AS LIKE 10000 TRILLION DALLAR FROM OWNING GTA FOREVA OK " but the truth is they probably were low on money.

The simple fact is this round of DLC will be out on Xbox 360 only and that's just the final statement here. If you want to play TLAD and the upcoming DLC you will need to purchase an xbox 360.

Those entrenched in the Xbox/MS camp were probably watching what words came from the higher ups there, I assumed the $50 Million came about because of a financial need from RN...as pointed out.

Either way, it is still and has been two exclusive episodes, that does not dictate the end or size of future DLC for the game in general, not a console in general, or the PC.

edit/ oh and f*ck the ps3

This topic looked intelligent ( but confusing at first ) before you showed up. Take your smiley seriously and pull the trigger.

I can't contribute as much because I'm using my PS3 as a computer, but many points were great and incisive---I just hoped it's timed so we all can play. Like many Xbox users say, ''50 mill means nothing to MS'', if it means nothing then I'm sure they wouldn't care if Sony gets second dibs a year from now.

This is getting ridiculous.

The chance of it being a timed contract is slim to none at best.

R* Stated many times the immaculate gaming experience will come if you have 360.

The PS3 users will not be getting this DLC. It's that simple. Please get it through your heads.

I had a Playstation, then a Playstation 2- I was going to get a 3 but I wasn't paying 600 dollars for something that does the same thing the Xbox does so I switched over and sold my PS2 games.

Just please, end it. It is not coming out on the PS3 ever ( that being TLAD and the next upcoming DLC ) In the future, who knows maybe Sony will over R* a more lucrative contract and they will take that.

Who knows, but for now- It's only on the 360.

Do you really think Microsoft will throw $50mill upfront knowing that it isnt set in stone that this will only come out for the 360?

$50mill is far too much to give a years exclusivity and microsoft are not stupid.

Sony had their chance to get this and figured they could do without as they would have games such as Killzone 2, Resident Evil 5 coming out around the same period so they wouldn't lose out so much.... unfortuently like almost every decision Sony make they think that their name will save them from failiure.

Now i know "fanboy" is going to be thrown at me but the truth is I own both consoles. My PS3 serves as my media streaming device/blu-ray player/exclusives games console and my 360 is what I use for all games that come out on both consoles.

The bottom line is if you want to play the lost and the damned then you'll have to get an xbox 360. Wait as long as you like but it's the only way you'll get to play it unless you play it on a friends 360.

''Fanboy'' wouldn't be thrown at you by me because atleast came back to be with a constructive argument and in most parts I agree with you.

I don't have both, but that's why I'm at buffalo's house to play the game so I could care less about it coming for PS3----still ithere might be a possibility.

There is NO possibility.

Myself,Zombie, and MANY others have brought you guys the same argument- that a 50 million dollar contract does not mean a timed contract. Sony simply lost out on this.

There is ABSOLUTELY ZERO possibility of it coming out for PS3. Even if it was a timed contract, which is HIGHLY unlikely- it would still not be released because it won't be cost effective to port the whole thing to PS3 after two to three years( remember theres another DLC coming out in October or that ballpark) when not many people will be interested in it due to them reading the whole plot of the DLC's most likely and getting tired of IV.

If you can tell me with full honesty you would wait three years to hear if it is getting ported and not just read up on what happens in the DLC then there I don't know what to tell you.

It's he say, she say so this doesn't matters, IDK how it benefits you if it doesn't come out but it sounds like you really don't want it to come out for the PS3.

^ It's not a timed exclusive. Deal with the fact that the PS3 will never have it.

Oh, I'm sorry, you must have the contract, can I see it?

Lucky for you i was able to sneak into a certain office and get a scan of the contract. It was hard and dangerous but it was worth it.

Well Damn, I guess it's 100% confirmed now. Sorry PS3 owners, but a contract is a contract

Why are people still talking about this? I just gave up, and I'm waiting until next year so I can laugh at PS3 users who thought they were getting the DLC.

It's like the idiots who thought VCS wouldn't come to PS2.

Do you think I don't want it to? I do want it to so everyone can enjoy the same experience.

But it is NOT going to.

I am simply telling the truth, I am not some idiot who see's everything as coming out how they want it.

I tend to believe the DLC is a timed exclusive. Because if it wasnt Microsoft would

have been running around saying that Sony will never get the DLC. Yet, they never have.

Also they would make the contract available if it wasnt a timed exclusive to end the

debate. There were quite a few people out there who may have been convinced

to get a 360 instead of the PS3 if they would have known they were NEVER going

to get that DLC. Yet, Microsoft has never made the DLC situation clear. And Rockstar

has a long history of never keeping anything exclusive. Do the math.

The only way i can see DLC-specifically TLAD and the second episode- coming to PS3 is if microsoft sells the rights or permits sony to obtain TLAD for a fee. This of course could provide even more profit to MS, especially if TLAD does well. However even if MS offers it to Sony for a fee, Sony may not even take the offer. Also there may be some sort of loop hole if TLAD wasnt exactly DLC form, if it was on only a disc. However one has to rember that MS, and thusly their lawyers, would not be exactly content with that.

More so even if one of these scenarios was to occur, it would take much time, and thought by many people, thusly beuracratic and slow in nature.

PS3 may get TLAD. They also may get second episode, but it will most likely not be free, and it will also take alot of time.

Xbox 360 owner, never have been a fanboy never will be.

I hope the PS3/Sony gets it so all of GTA's fans can enjoy it.

Youre assuming Microsoft owns this DLC which we dont know. They may be simply

distributing the game until they make their money back (25mil per dlc) and then

Rockstar starts to see a cut. Because 25 million per DLC seems pretty cheap to me.
