Creeplord
Hi everyone i just bought GTA 4 for the PC last Friday. And shortly after having a few installation errors i finally got it to install. Shortly after installation when i started playing the game i started to encounter these random crashes , where my Vista ( 32 bit ) tells me that GTA4 has stopped working and needs to close. My graphics are set all on medium , and i know they can be better because i can ran a multide of great titles without any issues. Shortly after encountering these various crahes i probably read through this whole forum as well as quite a few other forums and found out that in order for GTA4 to work i would need a few things installed such has the microsoft network 3.5 or something close to that , as well as the newest AMD drivers and etc. I downloaded and installed everything needed to play GTA4 and started it up once more. Once again i enountered these problems , and soon enough i realized that i probably should download the latest live update , which i updated succesful. Next through xbox live i updated GTA 4 , although it seems like the update hasn't been successful. Next i tried to manually download the patches by going to the site on the rockstar application page that has the patches on it. And shortly afterword i installed the newest patches, but they dont seem to intstall either, because i am still encountering the random crashes on windows vista with GTA 4. Ive searched for 3 days and i still cant find anything to fix these issues. Could anyone please help me with this issue. Thanks
Tim Riches
Have you installed Vista Service Pack 1 yet? You probably have because I don't think it lets you install otherwise. I doubt DirectX is the problem because it's installed by GTA4. It would be helpful to include what system you have, your video card and also how much ram you have. Also, depending on your video card, you might not want the latest drivers after all. Some nVidia cards require an older driver to work properly. I've had no trouble installing or playing the game. It only crashes for me when I'm using mods, and only under chaotic conditions. Hydro_PT
Well there is nothing much you can do. The game needs some serious fixes, something that Rockstar Toronto didn't manage to do yet. I can't really help you... it's a game problem that lots of peoples are experiencing, and there's nothing we can do to solve it... EDIT: Ok Tim Riches is also right, but still I think you pretty much did everything... my game was also stable before and after the first patch, but after the second patch I have sometimes missing textures for a second or so, some frequent crashes and errors.
