I don't understand the stealing. Especially whenever I've needed something I've asked and someone has been willing to help/share much like I try and help whenever I can.

 

I did think we should have a bank made. It could be protected so no breaking in possible and each user would have a room with an iron door only they have the key for. Could just have one or two chests for each person for precious items.

I really like the idea of a bank, a place where you can place all of your rare items like gold and diamonds,if you are afraid someone might steal them, plus it grows our town a bit more.

I know I have not been really on (because all your cool buildings dishearten me) but I was wondering if my friend can play on the server. I will vouch for him, if he does anything stupid I will personally tell him he can't play on there.

What I don't love is connection errors...

 

I get on the server, and within a minute, I get "connection reset by peer: socket write error"

driving me nuts. Happens on any server I connect to.

 

Anyone got any ideas before I go burn up Google?

Part way down the page, one "Florian" offered a tiny proxy app which buffers the packet stream. This solves teh socket write error nicely, however I find teh latency is abominable. Redstone or chests don't seem to operate, and entering minecarts or taking damage takes upwards of a full minute or more!

 

I also ran into "freezing ground" errors, where you get stuck and the screen spazzes out until you reset your connection.

 

Am I to understand the port number is indeed 25566?? (not 25565?) I ask because when I set that port in the proxy widget, it claims it's listening on 25565 (it reports the java commands it handles).

 

Hopefully I can figure out what my issue is soon, this map is a real nice piece of work.

 

Also, the text send seems to operate erratically if at all - sometimes it sends what I write very late, sometimes not at all.

I really like this server, so tightly picked. Also the weekly vent of anger and fun of grief day. it's the first server I've been on that has done that, really neat idea!

I experienced my first rain yesterday. I was up in my cliffside house when I heard this weird noise. Looked out of the window and saw the rain. I had to go outside to my tree farm (also pretty high up in the air) to see it in it's full glory. I climbed up on a pine tree, the sun rose and the bittersweet piano song started playing. It was beautifull.

Well as far as im aware you shouldnt have to port foward at all unless you yourself are hosting a server for others to join! As long as you have let it through your computers firewall witch you should have allready done because thats how your game updates, then its all go go go.

 

I tried MC on my friends old old PC the other week and it was giving me that error when just joining, spawned me up loaded one chunk then died with that error.

pretty damn good - Celeron D @3.2GHz, 3GB RAM, GeForce 8800 GT (512MB) on PCIE, Realtek RTL8180 Wireless NIC on a Netgear LAN, plenty good to run just about anything without headaches.

 

And as I discovered, true, no need to forward ports. But the problem IS related to packet spamming through the network; I just couldn't figure out what exactly is the cause, or the solution. I tried a packet buffer, and it helped only slightly. I stopped getting dropped immediately, but the connection was still unuseably lagged. Land would fail to generate, dirt wouldn't stay dug, mobs couldn't be hit, no events of any kind were updating.

 

I stumbled upon the fix quite accidentally:

 

set Limit Framerate to ON!!

 

Amazingly, it works just fine now.

I always have it OFF, as I have no issues with rendering lag and limiting it gives it a slightly "gritty" feel to it... normally I get around 40 - 60 FPS with all the settings maxed in single-player mode.

 

I cannot imagine the spaghetti mess of sh*t coding in that app that would link the client-side rendering framerate to the rate of packet transmission, but apparently this is the (documented) case! Unbelieveable.

 

 

So anyway, I went back on the server, and it looks like a band of creepers had a frat party on the map. It seems I missed the wonder of Grief Thursday, huh? I got on around sunset, and having no resources, spent the night dying over and over again as zombies ate my flesh and skellys shot me to smithereens. And lots of holes in the ground and buildings.

Alright guys, it seems bukkit have made another recommended release, so once again the server will go down later today for backup and updates.

 

I'm going to set a Day/Time each week where the server will be down for a few hours for maintance.

 

Edit: Scratch that, the server won't be down. It seems that bukkit maybe up to 740, but Brohoster are not that far updated yet.

ok guys can someone help me out? my friends and I have been trying to set up a private server through a LAN network (Ad-Hoc)

 

but it seems like no one is able to connect to my server, the error most people get is "java.net.SocketException: Network is unreachable: connect" and in other cases connections seem to time out...

 

before 1.5 i had no problem at all setting up a private server, people were immediately able to join my server, but now it's almost impossible (except over hamachi, which we can't use in class cause the network blocks it)

 

things I tried but didn't seem to help:

put minecraft server and minecraft client in the exceptions list of my firewall

turn off my Avast! shields...

 

still didn't help, I also was unable to connect to a friends server...

 

we ALL own minecraft 1.5_01 and all servers were updated to 1.5_02...some people manage to make a server and make others join, others don't...does anyone know what causes this issue?

 

also, properties file hasn't been changed since the times the server actually worked...

Probably because of the memory leak somewhere which seems to mostly affect people with nvidia cards. Since 1.3 or so, I've had to run the game with normal draw distance because far began crashing to a black screen every two minutes.

 

BTW, did you get the coal and bread I threw at you when you spawned? Or did packet errors eat them?
