I'm close to buying the XBLA version.  It's supposed to be pretty close to the PC version.

It's severely gimped in comparison. The limited map size may not seem like much of a big deal, but when you compare it to the virtually infinite space of the PC version, it's pretty significantly small. There's also the lack of texture packs and custom player skins, the lack of mods, and I'm not entirely sure how many people you can fit into a multiplayer game in the XBLA version but I have a hunch it's a lot lower than the amount possible in a dedicated PC server.

 

The only positive thing I've seen is mip-mapping, which is possible in the PC version with Optifine. Besides that, it really has nothing to offer making it worth purchasing over the PC version, unless your PC absolutely cannot run Minecraft.

Actually, it is version 1.6 - that was the current version when the XBLA version began development, and they didn't bother trying to keep up with the updates. The "downloadable content" tab on the menu has lead some to speculate if the existing updates will come in the form of DLC, but I'm skeptical of that because from what I've heard it's damn near impossible to get authorization from Microsoft to release DLC free of charge. It's very possible Microsoft will try to get Mojang to charge Xbox 360 players for updates; knowing what Microsoft has done in the past, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

I'm pretty sure notch had the upper-hand in dealing with Microsoft this time i think Microsoft wanted this game bad on there platform not the other way around! iv'e got a feeling that they will charge for custom skins and texture-packs as these have not been ruled out yet!

MCX360 Smashes Sales Records - Third Platform Dominated

 

It was announced in a statement released by Microsoft that Minecraft: 360 Edition has surpassed all previous sales records on the XBOX Live Arcade, selling more digital copies in the first twenty-four hours of launch than any other title! There are already over four hundred thousand ratings for the game on XBLA, and it clearly has a strong start in the multiplayer community.

 

Official figures have not been released yet regarding the exact number of sales; it has been estimated, based on the game's ratings by players, that sales exceeded four hundred-thousand copies within 24 hours of going live, worldwide.

Love it really, I own it on PC but still bought the Xbox version. Just good fun to play on console, couldn't give a flying f*ck about limitations.

I think I might just get it for the heck of it, I have hooked up a 360 controller to play MC on the comp it was pretty cool. Inventory management was horrid cause I had the cursor hooked up the the right thumbstick. However this was very relaxing with a controller rather hunched over on a desk. MC seems like a great 'couch' game and local co-op would be fun too, much different experience than server multi.

A small update on the castle I'm working on. I've gotten the walls up and have 70% of the floors inside finished as well. I've started flattening out the land inside but it's so tedious I had to take a break:

Had my first marathon taste of this today with the C9 gents and I got hooked pretty damn fast. While they tunneled away feverishly like gerbils in Richard Gere's anus, I worked my interior decorating and landscaping magic to their bemused delight and ultimate chagrin. It was glorious.

 

My brain is now oatmeal.

I think you actually have one of the best spots on the property. I cut out a hallway on the north and west ends and the view looking up at your modern little home is pretty sweet.

Biggest vein of diamond I've found is probably 8, haven't kept count but I've been playing a long time and I think 8 - 9 is the max you can find in a vein.

 

Having Fortune III is awesome basically doubles diamonds and redstone, triples coal and Lapis can extend to quadruple the yield.

Actually, I have more questions since I'll be getting the 360 Edition soon. So the worlds that you can create, you'll able to invite friends in it right and they can access those worlds whenever they wanted to after that?

Well you cant setup a server so to speak like the pc version but you can invite friends into your map and also join there map. Its more of an intergrated singleplayer/multiplayer of witch the PC version is going to copy in the near future! I'm sure i can start a map for anyone on GTAForums as and when add me as a friend with a message telling me who you are on here, and we can sort something out for the console players.

Minecraft isn't available on Steam, mostly because they take 30% of the profits and Notch thought that was too high (despite the fact that it's the exact same amount Microsoft takes for XBLA titles).
