I think I'm gonna play through SA for a while first, compose a load of fun challenges and then post it up. Like I said my SA should be ariving soon, but I do have a bit to do in this sub-forum first (involving the guide to restricted areas and VC recordbook topics), so as soon as I get that done I'll boot up SA and get right on the topic. I'd also welcome your challenges as well.

If I decide to not create the topic, as I've said above, I'd be honoured if you were to create one. I'll keep you informed. icon14.gif

Excellent.

Well, I passed "Rub Out" using just the M4 you get from the mission. Oh, well, I took out Diaz himself with the M60. Not too hard. Don't have a Kruger anymore.

I've concluded that it should be possible to do the "Shakedown" challenge where you break all the windows with melee weapons. However, I do not suggest you use a chainsaw. Doesn't work too well. I'm thinking the Katana that's in the coffee shop backroom in the mall might be a better choice, or anything else you get at the hardware store.

If you use the motorbike to drive up to the mall, can you just drive the bike through the windows?

It's also worth noting that when you begin the mission, there will be a Stinger parked beside the Infernus, with an Uzi located just behind it. The vehicle and weapon are only available for the mission shakedown, and disappear when you complete the mission, so I'd allow you to pick that up prior to the mission, seeing as it's in the game script. icon14.gif

The bike is indeed a legit way to smash the windows, but I was going for the individual challenge regarding Shakedown and breaking all windows with a melee weapon. I would consider that something Tommy holds in his hands.

For the purposes of the limited weapons challenges I see no problem with using the bikes, or any other vehicles for that matter. I've been playing through running over lots of people and things.

Nice! Attempting a challenge whilst attempting a challenge! tounge.gif

Let me know if you succeed with the melee weapon technique, I'll add it onto the table (which will mean another gap is filled icon14.gif).

It's multitasking! colgate.gif

It only makes sense to do this in a way that conserves ammo if doing the weapon challenges, so why not? Normally, with no challenges, I'm throwing grenades and firing rockets all over the mall. I don't like shopping malls much, which is probably at the heart of my love for this mission.

flicko doesn't have SA right now, so I might get one together later today, at least a preliminary version where people can start posting for new challenges. I can think of a couple right away that I'd put on there to start. I might end up getting sucked into playing SA again myself though, kind of derailing what I've been working on in here. I wish I didn't have to actually get out and try to earn some money, or get paid to play GTA or something (Ya heard, Rockstar? tounge.gif )

Cool, looking forward to that. I've got a few challenges for SA in mind after reading through this topic, so I'll be sure to post them. icon14.gif

Oh and, here is a new challenge for this topic;

Can you complete all taxi fares in one sitting, without the use of Pay 'N' Spray?

But isn't the bike a weapon that he holds in his hands? biggrin.gif

He can hit people with it, guiding it onto the target with some accuracy just like a baseball bat.

He can do other things with it as well of course, like ride it or go over jumps. But it's still a weapon.

Entirely up to you though icon14.gif

Although the bike has those features, it isn't classed as a Melee weapon. And if Mainland Marauder wants to attempt the Shakedown challenge, his weapons of choice are only these-

-Screwdriver

-Hammer

-Baseball Bat

-Machete

-Knife

-Chainsaw

-Night stick

-Golf club

-Meat Cleaver

-Katana

I'm sure attempting Shakedown with one of these weapons will be more entertaining than smashing through the windows with a bike! biggrin.gif

Chainsaw is already a fail. Sticking to the other weapons challenge, I think I'll get back to this one later and use the Katana or baseball bat. I think I can pull it off.

It would be interesting to see what melee weapons can actually smash the windows. As soon as you proposed this idea, I thought that most of them wouldn't even be able to smash a window (proof that I've never once even tried! tounge.gif)! I assume with the Chainsaw, that it just slices down the window and sparks fly off, but doesn't actually destroy the window?

I can't imagine poking it with a Screwdriver or knife will be of much use either!

Awesome, nice to know buddy. icon14.gif

I've been having a go at completing this challenge as of late-

Can you complete the mission Death Row using no standard weapons at all?

Now, for this challenge, although I haven't stated, I wouldn't have allowed people to use either the Rhino or Hunter to complete this.

As you can guess, this method was going to be tricky. It certainly didn't let me down. Be forewarned; this is a big read! When I first attempted this challenge, I didn't put any thought into it, and just thought I'd be able to do it in a fast vehicle, providing I was quick. So, I got my vehicle, which happened to be the closest decent car around, which turned out to be the Phoenix. And then I went to the mission marker, making sure I left the car's door open in the process (to make sure it would remain after the mission cut-scene). When the mission started, I quickly hopped into the Phoenix and headed over to where Lance was being held. I drove unusually well on the way there, when normally, the excitement of the mission makes me go into overload. tounge.gif I got to the road which leads up to the entrance of the junkyard, and floored it. For people who have read my GTAVC storyline mission guide, you'll know that this is the method I always use. As soon as I got remotely close to the Sentinel, and Diaz's men waiting at the entrance, I bailed out. The car obviously carried on travelling at speed, and wiped out two of Diaz's men.

I then went into the Junkyard, and got back into the Phoenix, completely forgetting that there are usually three of Diaz's men at the entrance. One of them started shooting at me unexpectedly, and soon the Phoenix was on fire, forcing me to bail and flee yet again. The Phoenix exploded, and I was stood there, exposed to the multiple shots I was soon to receive from the guard I initially thought I had killed. But since I hit the Sentinel with the Phoenix at nearly top speed, the Sentinel didn't blow up when the Phoenix did, since it had richocheted into the wall just behind the entrance. Still facing a barrage of shots, I quickly hopped into the Sentinel and then ran over the goon who was shooting at me. Without wasting anymore time, as Lance's life was seriously decreasing, I headed to the warehouse where he was being held, post haste.

On my way I ran over the goon who exits the Trashmaster, and I also killed the two goons stood outside the warehouse. Just as I killed them, they set my Sentinel on fire, forcing me to flee yet again! Because three goons were hidden behind the bulldozer outside the warehouse, one goon was actually stood on the Bulldozer and another was stood inside the warehouse where Lance was located, I was now heavily exposed, and only had 55 health points remaining. Instinct kicked in and I ran to the left of the warehouse and hid around the back, to catch a second. I then realised I didn't have a second, as Lance's life bar was almost empty, so I ran around to the side and hopped in the Sentinel beside the warehouse. Before I even had a chance to move, I was pulled out of the vehicle, and started to run away again. I eventually ended up getting killed by the goon who was stood on top of the Bulldozer. First attempt... failed!

Now a little pissed off, I had another go. I re-spawned at the Hospital and hopped in the Taxi leading to the Malibu. I then waited for another decent car to drive by before triggering the mission. An Infernus showed up, so I jacked it, and went to start the mission (again making sure I left the doors open so the car would be there when the cut-scene was over). When the mission started I hopped in the Infernus and floored it. What a catastrophic mistake that turned out to be, as I plowed straight into a cop. So now, I wasn't only against the clock, but I also had a two star wanted level to contend with. Since the cops are pretty tame at Two stars I chose not to pick up a bribe, and proceeded with the mission. I drove over the Westernmost bridge on Starfish Island, and then my bad luck happened to kick in, yet again. This time though, as I was turning the corner, the back end of my Infernus managed to get firmly lodged inside the telephone pole just outside of the Little Haiti hospital. I couldn't move at all, so I had to flee the vehicle. The closest vehicle in sight was a Greenwood, so I reluctantly jacked it and headed over to the destination.

When I got to the entrance I did what I normally do; sped right up, and then fled just before the entrance. This time, however, the method only managed to kill one of Diaz's goons, things weren't looking good. Fortunately there was a Voodoo turning round at the entrance to the Junkyard, so I got in that, and headed inside, with a police car now hot on my tail. I managed to run over two of Diaz's goons at the entrance, and then a further two more just behind the Trashmaster. I then proceeded to the entrance, killed the two goons outside the warehouse, but ended up getting killed, this time by the three goons who were hidden behind the Bulldozer. Second attempt... failed!

I gave the third attempt no initial thought as to why I kept failing the challenge, stole a Stinger this time and triggered the mission. I had no trouble this time heading to the destination, and I managed to kill all three goons who were blocking the entrance to the Junkyard, using the same method as the above two; speeding up to the entrance, and then fleeing just before you get to the entrance. A little pressure was released, and I had a bit more time to compose myself, and I still had the Stinger available for use. Without wasting any time I got inside the Stinger and headed to the warehouse. On my way, the goon who stands on top of a green verge, just to the right of the entrance actually managed to set my car on fire, forcing me to flee, yet again!

When I fled, the goon carried on shooting at me, and managed to reduce my life down to just 19 health points. Knowing that I'd have absolutely no chance of passing this mission with so little life left, I ran to the Sentinel at the Junkyard's entrance and quickly drove to the pizza place, to top up on my health. Even though my life was now at maximum, my chances of passing the mission were still looking extremely bleak, as Lance's life bar was at less than a half. When I got on the road leading up to the Junkyard, two of Diaz's goons had followed me, and started to shoot. They left themselves exposed in the open road, so I floored it, and killed both of them. I got to the warehouse where Lance was being held, again killed the two goons guarding the warehouse, but this time I killed the three goons who were hiding behind the Bulldozer. I also managed to run over the goon inside the warehouse, where Lance was located. Thinking I'd killed all of the goons who had a decent chance of killing me, I went to retrieve Lance.

During the cutscene, when Tommy is talking to Lance, two goons were miraculously stood at the entrance, waiting for us to come back in play. I had no idea where they came from, and I paused the game when I could, trying to think of a way to get out of the situation. I figured, even though Lance had a gun, I was going to run into the bottom right corner of the warehouse, and then go out. I've done this many times before (unintentionally too!), and Lance usually gets stuck in the warehouse, therefore keeping him at bay from Diaz's goons, who would now willingly open fire on him. So I un-paused the game, and ran into the corner...

Didn't work, I died again! Attempt three... failed!

Now, before attempting this challenge for a fourth(!) time, I thought of what I was doing wrong. And then I realised, I wasn't even wearing any body armour, what-so-ever in all three previous attempts. So, this time I made sure I did stock up on body armour. But before attempting the mission, I thought of something else I could possibly do, something that could aid me a little more in the mission. The vehicles I had been using for the past three challenges were extremely fast, but also very fragile, so I decided to change the type of vehicle I was using. With the help of my Vehicle database, I decided to go with the Firetruck. It's extremely fast, extremely strong and reliable (especially when it comes to those blasted Comet's), and I could also make use of the water shoot, by temporarily knocking down Diaz's goons. So I went to Downtown, got the truck and headed to the mission marker.

When the cutscene ended I began heading to the destination, this time more prepared with my armour and superior vehicle. To reduce any damage to the vehicle, I triggered the sirens, and soon got to the destination with no trouble at all. This time though, instead of attempting my preferred method (fleeing upon entrance), I remained in the truck, and initiated the water shoots. I focused so much on one of Diaz's goons, that almost immediately my Firetruck was on fire! Not a good way to begin! And this time, the velocity of the explosion from the Firetruck forced the Sentinel to set on fire too, so this time I had no back up! I had no idea what to do, and to save myself from dying I, you guessed it, fled out of the Junkyard. I went down the alley to the right, to think of any way I could rectify this challenge. With nothing in mind, I decided to just go for it, and run into the Junkyard.

I got to the Trashmaster and got in it, and very nearly got pulled out of it by the goon who stands beside it. I managed to turn it around, and kill the two goons at the entrance to the warehouse where Lance was being held. Surprise surprise, within seconds the Trashmaster was on fire, forcing me to abort. I immediately got in the Sentinel beside the warehouse, killed three goons who were now coming at me, and also managed to kill the goon in the warehouse, who was watching over Lance. I kicked Lance into life, and we both got back in the Sentinel, which was facing us. I reversed out of the warehouse, and managed to avoid all remaining goons in the Junkyard. But that was only the beginning, as most of you know, the Comet's were soon to pursuit me. I used the method I posted in the Storyline mission guide, and I turned left down the alleyway (which leads to the Haitian's warehouse, and also baffles the goons in the Comets), and I eventually ended up outside the pizza place. Now with a head-start over the Comets, I headed to the hospital and, dare I say it... successfully completed the challenge! biggrin.gif

To be honest, you don't really need evidence at all. As long as you provide a detailed description of your method, and the events that occurred in your attempts, which is remotely believable, I'll trust you and add it to the table. It's not like the challenge is impossible, so go ahead and give it a go, and then post up your method. Although, maybe you could state exactly how long it took you to complete it all, as that would give a better indication of whether or not your attempt is believable. If you come up with something stupid (which I assume you won't) like saying it took you 10 minutes, obviously I'm not going to believe you.

Give it a go, buddy. smile.gif

Yeah, it's much easier to edit your first post, mate, not to mention the fact it would have been read anyway (well, at least by me!).

Only 11 fares completed...?! What happened? Did you drive like a psychotic maniac or something?! tounge.gif

I think the key with the cabbie challenge (and Paramedic challenge for that matter), is to be pretty nifty, but extremely careful at the same time. When I first got the game, I used to drive erratically whilst on the Paramedic mission, and nine times out of ten set my vehicle on fire. Added to that I used to attempt the missions in Downtown, right after I'd destroyed the Haitian's warehouse! Not a good plan!

Better luck next time, though. And yeah, it is great to see another contribution in this. biggrin.gif

You mean the Cabbie toppled and went upside down? You have to be careful when taking sharp turns with the Cabbie, as it is a little less sturdy than the Taxi.

Have you got access to the Zebra Cab, by sucessfully completing the protection ring asset for Kaufman Cabs?

In my opinion, the Zebra Cab is not only faster than the Cabbie and Taxi, but it's also a lot tougher and considerably more reliable. You'll probably have the best chance of completing the challenge in the best possible vehicle, and, in terms of performance, I deem the Zebra Cab to be that vehicle (like I say, that's just my opinion, others may disagree with this).

Well, no, it wouldn't necessarily be cheating. But with a 100% saved game, the Taxi missions will have already been completed, otherwise the game wouldn't be at 100%.

In that case, it's entirely up to your personal preference as to which vehicle you choose. The Cabbie is argueably tougher than the Taxi, but the Taxi is argueably faster, so both vehicles have their own plus points. I'll be looking forward to how this challenge pans out.

There's nothing wrong with playing through the game, until you successfully complete the Kaufman Cabs protection ring asset, and then gain access to the Zebra Cab and attempt the challenge from there. It doesn't state in the challenge that you have to do this challenge straight away, and if you prefer not to use either the Cabbie or Taxi, and don't mind about the time it takes to gain access to the Zebra Cab, feel free to unlock it.

It doesn't matter how long it takes, this topic isn't going anywhere soon. smile.gif

Can you complete the storyline of Vice City, as well as all assasination contracts using only the weapons each mission provides you with?

Forgot to tell you I have been attempting this for about 3 weeks. I've actually done this, don't ask how. I haven't got proof, but I did it. The first missions were easy. Assuming avery and other optional missions weren't part of this I have just completed the main storyline.

Death Row was so hard. It was hard enough with guns but with just a pistol it was really hard. I did it just by running quickly for the trashmaster having about 3 people still alive shooting at me and rescued lance.

Rub out was by far the hardest. I assumed I could stela other people's weapons but had little ammo and let lance do a lot of the shhoting. Surpisingly Lance did well on my first attempt, but he died.

I used the same technique and managed to kill diaz with my fists, going down for heath now and then.

Autocide was really frustrating but I found a baseball bat and found myslef a sniper.

Using a baseball bat for shakedown was actually the most boring, difficult and annoying one, but did it with 3 seconds to spare!

Eventually I did the print works missions with much difficulty and keep your friends close I used the kruger downstairs and the shotgun biggrin.gif

Never, ever doing thast again icon14.gif
