Please post more than just the title.

We don't need a War and Peace essay on the film, but at least give a couple of sentences of good and bad points and even throw in a rating if you want to, as long as you give some rationale.

Death Proof is great! I love it! It's trashy, incongruent and bizarrely paced and I love it for all those things. I'm not so hot on the first half of it but the second half is fantastic. Zoe Bell and Rosario Dawson are especially great.

I watched Heat for the first time last night. I've been meaning to watch it for ages now but never got around to it because it'd been built up so much in film-culture (if that's a thing) as a great heist movie (specifically, you always see things described as "[x scene] was heavily influenced by Heat") that I was apprehensive. I never thought it'd live up to what it was meant to be.

If you're into heist movies then you should check out The Score and The Town.

Videodrome (1983)

Television is the drug of the nation - that's a well-known truth, but that's also the starting point for the story of the movie Videodrome. David Cronenberg shows us a world where the homeless people are going to the mission not for a free meal, but for television and beggar on the street asks you not for a spare, but for the batteries to the portable TV. In this world, there is Max Renn, working for Channel 83, who searches for new programs. Channel 83 doesn't specializes in family programs and documentaries, but it shows things that are quite rare in the TV, namely, licentious sex and brutality. One day Max catches pirate television transmission called Videodrome, which makes Channel 83 looks like children television. Unfortunately, watching Videodrome causes irreversible changes in the world around us.

Cronenberg's film was made in 1983, but it still can shock with its message and execution. All the special effects were created in stop-motion technique, so even today they look engrossing. The advantage of the film is undoubtedly acting of James Woods, who plays Max, and who practically keeps the film on himself. I can't say much about the story, as a matter of fact we do not know what is truth and what is fiction, but it is one of the hallmarks of Cronenberg. The film has a dense almost apocalyptic atmosphere which further enhances the viewer's experience.

Videodrome is certainly worth watching, but be careful because the movie is quite heavy in its sound and brutal in appearance. What's worse, it is extremely timely in its message.

Sky Blue (2003)

Sky Blue / Wonderful Days is the most expensive movie made by Korean cinema. It shows the Earth after the war that led to the collapse of civilization. A group of people who foreseen the consequences created a city called Ecoban that obtains energy from pollution. Unfortunately, the earth is purifying, and the city is getting closer to collapse. In order to save the situation, the authorities want to set surrounding oil fields on fire, but these, are unfortunately inhabited by Marians - people living outside Ecoban - who are used as a labor force.

Plot of the film is not too complicated and as a matter of fact we have seen similar not once and not twice. The film also doesn't stand out as something special in character creation, putting more empahsis on emotion than on character traits. One could say - probably a mediocre flick. But something that puts this movie about the line of mediocrity is the execution. The combination of computer and classical animations and complemented with the great music turns this into visual orgasm.

The second reason why you should watch it is the ending, which will be mystery to prevent from spoiling. Generally, seance was pleasant and movie is worth a watch. You can't count on a big surprise however, because this is not the type of movie. This film is Eye and earf*ck not mindf*ck.

Hardware (1990)

user posted image

Hardware is a low-budget action movie, which tells the story about Moses and Jill, who live in Reno after a nuclear war. Moses is a scrap collector and one day he buys remains of a robot from the individual like him. He gave them to Jill because of the Christmas Eve. She is unfulfilled artist who creates art not for herself nor for others and she turns the robot into a sculpture. It, however, has other plans than being a decoration in someone's apartment.

Hardware could be considered as a combination of Mad Max with Blade Runner and Terminator. Setting certainly comes from first one, atmosphere and interesting music similar to Vangelis comes from the second one, and red filter thrown on the image comes from the third. The film itself, despite the lack of originality is quite nice, which is undoubtedly the merit of engaging storyline and dense atmosphere. In addition, the film is quite uncompromising in its brutality.

The thing I am not very fond of except the low budget and lack of freshness is slow pace of the story, because everything starts around fourthieth minute. The beginning is good way to introduce the atmosphere, so it's worth to sit through.

Hardware is good movie, which turns into cult in some circles. Worth watching.

2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)

user posted image

2 Fast 2 Furious is the second film in a series of Fast and Furious. Unfortunately, changes on the director's seat has also brought changes in the execution of the film, which turned from good into very average. The story focuses on the fate of Brian, who was expelled from the police and who is now taking part in illegal races in Miami. When he is caught in one of them, FBI makes offer he can not refuse. In return for clearing his files, he must help the police catch Carter Verone - a gangster who wants to export a huge amount of dirty money out of US.

Things that stand out from the first minutes are artficiality and trashiness of the movie. Races are undoubtely made with computer animation, which can be seen without a problem and the image of despair is complemented by terrible acting. 2F&2F is a movie, where Kens are racing for the affections of Barbies. The story and Carter Verone are so boring that watching this is real drag. Pictures are fine, but the whole thing falls apart at a time when a race starts (surprisingly this on the highway is pretty good). There is some music, but I can't really say what. It wasn't nerve-wracking and this was good. Acting is terrible, especially this by Amaury Nolasco or Devon Aoki. Tyrese Gibson and Thom Barry save the situation here.

It's extremely hard to find anything positive in that movie. You can watch it, but this two hours will be rather lost.

+Better than F&F6

+Race on the highway

-Everything else.

You seem to watch Fast N Furious movies a lot Tycek, and then write bad reviews about them!

I've not watched them, but if I thought one was bad, I wouldn't keep watching another in the series monocle.gif

Recent film I saw and to my surprise and delight, was incredibly watchful and entertaining.....The King's Speech.

Got to give 8/10. Watch it. smile.gif

I know it looks like this, but the truth is a bit different. I've watched first and third one and I liked them, what could be seen in my reviews so I decided to watch second one, which I've seen somewhere in 2004 and with one eye. I don't like the next parts, so I definitely won't be watching them again, especially that reviews are done.

Dayum, i love this kind of movie, sh*t's so tense! Love it. It's another one of great movie directed by Clint Eastwood. Sean Penn acting is so spot-on in this one.

The ending was just terrible... The giants should've killed everyone!!! Instead they bow down to little Jack... suicidal.gif

Sherlock Holmes 2009

user posted image

Well, I watched this was on TV last night, thought I'd give it a try and it was a very good film. I already watched it once but never really watched the whole film.

I must say that this is an excellent detective movie. Typical Sherlock Holmes. Downey Junior's and Law's acting is top class and the plot is just superb. It's basically a story about Holmes and Watson trying to eliminate a nemesis Lord Blackwood. There are some twists like Blackwood back from the dead at the start. It's got a good mixture of comedy too and the fighting scenes are amazing. It's cool to see England in the 1800's. And Holmes deductions at the end are fantastic and fit the plot perfectly. There is hardly a dull moment in the film, overall I'd give this film in my opinion a 9/10. Definitely worth a watch.

Wolverine sucked ass. First few chapters is way too long and boring. I thought this was a super hero action movie.

Not really worth watching it in 3D either. Unlike films like The Avengers, there's nothing really particularly exciting happening to want to see it in 3D.

One thing i've noticed about the horror/scary movie genre and its viewers.

If you go into a movie adamant on not getting scared/trying to brave it out, you're not going to get scared. If you go in and just let yourself relax, and forget about trying to be as manly as possible about it, you will have a better experience.

I do a similar thing with Drama films, I could just sit there and not give a sh*t about anything shrugging it off, or I could let myself care, and shed a tear near the end sort of thing. Being self aware is problematic and when you realize you're watching a movie that sucks, but it's better than shrugging it off like I said.

@Ace Kingston, Sherlock Holmes 2 is actually a sequel that is just as good.

Olympus has fallen, or a more appropriate title would've been 'logic has fallen'. Don't get me wrong the action sequences, special effects and all weren't half bad. And, wait.. that's actually the only positive remarks I can justify making. The plot had more holes than swiss cheese, the lack of attention to detail was abysmal. For instance, how the f*ck would an AC-130 be able to fly from North Korea to the US east coast without any interference whatsoever and upon entering US airspace only be intercepted by two fighter jets which somehow were idiotic enough to fly next to a bloody gunship, is beyond me. This is a classic example of an action movie that is best to be watched without any regard to logic. I unfortunately didn't do this and found myself wanting to yell at the screen almost every 5 minutes.

Apocalypse Now. It's not the first time I've watched it, but the more I watch it, the more I appreciate it. What can be said? It depicts the way to the insanity of the war as the ascent of a vietnamese river by an special forces official, in order to kill an American colonel who has already lost his mind and turned his back on the Army. Its fantastic picture gives the viewer a magical sensation, as well as the acting of its cast, which includes actors such as Marlon Brando and Martin Sheen.

However, in my opinion, it's not a film for everybody but you have to know how to really enjoy and appreciate it.

Personally, I'd have prefered if they had broadcasted the Redux version, which includes unreleased scenes. It's a shame that that many good scenes were cut...

Pacific Rim

Saw this the other night at the cinema, movie is visually great, but storywise was a huge let down, not helped at all by the poor acting, bad script and overly cliche moments. It's a fun film, and slightly dragged.

It's by Guilerme Del Toro, the same guy who made, Pans Labyrith.

Hard to give this movie a score out of ten.

6/10, would be lower if it was not was great looking visually.

Forgot how visually stunning this film was for it's time and it really does get you attached to the story.. some parts are a bit out there but it's still a great movie. I recommend it for y'all to watch if you never have or atleast give it another watch if you have in the past.

I think, I don't have to say anything about that movie.

I just watched it for the first time and it's one of my favorites from all the recent pictures.

A cool and dramatic story, very good casting, perfect score and a breathtaking picture language.

All sums up to a total work of art, which has a strong resemblance to a film noir.

Though on the other side of the law, Ryan Gosling must have watched 'Bullitt' 10,000 times before shooting that movie. He acts like a Steve McQueen clone. lol.gif

end-of-watch-2012-movie-title-banner.jpg

Plot Summary: Jake Gyllenhaaal and Michael Peña star as Los Angeles Police officers Brian Taylor and Mike Zavala following them as they patrol the streets of South Central Los Angeles. The film paints a very realistic picture of the cops who risk their lives every day, and the price they and their families are sometimes forced to pay.

Released on September 21,2012

So I just got to watching this a few days ago. I remember I first saw the trailer during previews before TED or the Dark Knight last year and was instantly interested.

Can't believe it took me almost a year to see it (Big movie buff) but man I loved it. I thought Jake Gyllenhaaal(lol @tom selleck forum auto edit) and Michael Peña did a fantastic job. Really the chemistry and all that was top notch. I'm usually not a fan of the documentary 1st person type movies but this was nice in that they switched it up between regular movie angles and handheld.

I found a new respect for Jake and Mike as actors. They did their research with this movie. They spent 5 months with the LAPD riding along in the patrol cars and doing tactical training 5 days a week. They really pulled me in.

Anna Kendrick and Natalie Martinez were equally great in their roles as Brian and Mikes girlfriend/wives.

I obviously don't want to spoil anything but the movie for me really made me love these dudes
and I was rooting for them. I got so connected. All the buddy humor was great. But then the movie quickly reminds you how brutal real life can be.

Brian and Mike take on all sorts of action but ultimately end up getting involved with
some very dangerous people.

And that's really all I will say about the story. Short and sweet haha. Watch the movie. wink.gif

I really don't have any complaints towards this movie, only that I'd love to hear more humorous
banter between Brian and Mike in the cop car haha.

I'll end by saying that it is one of my favorite cop movies and it is a humorous but also foremost anintense/emotional experience. I'll admit I shed some tears during this.

It's movies like this that I love where the characters draw you in. As an aspiring
actor, performances like this are the ones that really make you appreciate films and the impact
they can have.

I really recommend.

My arbitrary review score: 9.6/10

I seem to be watching a sh*t ton of movies to help stave off some work stress. Here is the rundown from the past handful of days. Oh and all these are thanks to all the new nestalgia channels that seemed to have popped up 'round here.

Breakin' 2 - Electric Boogaloo(1982 I think)

I never saw the first one, and this was the first time seeing this one. Holy f*ck I was glued. Some serious 80's sh*t in this movie. Oh and I had to look up the original Breakin' movie to get the date and it was released the same year. Wacky.

That was imidiatlly followed by:

Sheena Queen of the Jungle(1984??)

Words can not describe this masterpiece. Based on an old comic book, and not the first time it has been adapted to a movie. If you see any version of Sheena, by all f*cking means be sure that it is the 80's version.

Based on a book by Andrew Neiderman, the film centers on a young lawyer who joins a New York firm only to discover that his boss has an increasingly bizarre personality.

I tell you what, this movie is damn awesome. It's a drama thriller that get it's right.

Great acting by Keanu Reeves, Charlize Theron and Al Pacino. Love it from the start till the end.

Im not good at reviewing things, but trust me, if you haven't seen this movie, give it a chance, really. i mean RIGHT NAOW.

Simply to avoid spoiling the film, i'll tell you now, it's incredibly ironic at the expense of the characters in the film, but more importantly, at the expense of most viewers.
