Please post more than just the title.

We don't need a War and Peace essay on the film, but at least give a couple of sentences of good and bad points and even throw in a rating if you want to, as long as you give some rationale.

The Recruit was on TV the other night so I watched it again. Not that great but Pacino is pretty awesome in it.

The Haunting in Connecticut

I went into this movie having not heard anything about it beforehand. To be honest, I didn't even plan to go to the cinema, it was just a spur of the moment thing. The only film that was showing at the time I arrived was this. I didn't expect much, and I was not surprised when I found myself bored with the movie. The beginning didn't really show anything, and the end of the movie just seemed too repetitive. Nothing surprised me, and, while I admit I jumped out of my seat a couple of times, the film wasn't all that scary.

I didn't enjoy the film, and won't be watching it again.

^ Hm I was thinking of going to go see that. The advert makes it look like what Silent Hill should have been.

Bah, go and watch it. That's just my view, and my view alone. It's all down to personal preference, and I just felt that I'd seen all this before. It reminded of The Skeleton Key a bit. Thing is, enjoyed The skeleton Key a lot more.

Why not simply leave? I hate it when people pull out phones and games in the cinema - it's distracting.

Yeah, if it blows -> leave. (not a leafblower)

Last movie I saw? Ben-Hur was on TV recently. Charlton Heston is the man.

I saw a few of you note that you'd see HEAT either via inspired by the 'random' vote selection, or because people here were extolling it's virtues. I dug out my Warner Brothers LaserDisc, hooked up my Pioneer CLD-D703 to my XV-E850U (IIRC the model) SharpVision LCD projector and watched HEAT again.

Thing that is semi-amusing is that I hooked up my stereo, in front of my bed, projected on the far wall and determined that the audio was too loud for action and too low for the narrative, so I opted to plug in my Sony V6 Studio Monitor headphones into the LD player and watched in traditional stereo...sure it was 1995, Dolby Digital and multichannel was successfully rolled out in theaters, but you should give it a go and see how the guns and echos sound compared to the background...then enjoy the plane sequence later. I hadn't watched it in about two years or more! Good choice.

Should point out, Marty Ferrero is seen as the clerk ringing up the explosive materials, in a subtle cameo.. He played IZZY on Miami Vice cast as "Martin", he also played a bad guy who got shot and killed, which is odd that he played two characters within two seasons of Vice. Excellent Character Actor.

I've seen 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' yesterday. Yes, without the special effects in some screnes but I must say storywise it's a pretty good film.

Wolverine was the only interesting character in X-men in my opinion and the film depicts his history better than expected. Interesting plot turns (although not that brilliant)...

Probably one of the better movies to come out in months I think.

My projector bulb, oddly enough, was from a newer Sharp that I pawned long ago, I was trying to sell the bulb but not getting any solid luck with it, so I decided to put it in my older projector and Voila! It worked, I wound up breaking part of the plastic molded "cage" for it, thanks to the poor material choice used, but I can now enjoy what would have cost me $200 to $400 alone, an LCD bulb off the Internet.

I'll be watching THE ROCK, Michael Bay, Nicholas Gage. I always liked the film, better then most of Bay's films, though I really enjoyed both Bad Boys films as well.

Got done watching Action Jackson a little while ago. Carl Weathers should have done more ass kicking action movies like this, I mean, nigga can clear a car.

Pretty much an 80's classic in my opinion.

Watched Serpico again today. I f*cking love that movie, classic Pacino. Dirty cops and a true life story make this unmissable. Great acting all around, and a great look at corruption that's taken hold of an entire city. It's a pretty powerful movie I think, and Pacino looks totally badass. I want his hair/beard.

I rented the original Dawn of the Dead. It starts off kind of slow, but it turns out to be a pretty kick ass flick.(Old school gore is F'n hilarious)

I loved the part at the beginning when they bust in that apartment building, and that fat cop is shooting everybody. When he blew that Arab's head off, I was like oh sh*t! I had to keep rewinding, because that dummy they used had a creepy stare.

I loved the re-make, and I respect the original for it's time frame. Overall, both get two thumbs up.

Film: Crank 2 - High Voltage

Opinion: Jason Statham returns as the indestructible Chev Chelios, first they poisoned his system and now they have taken his strawberry tart (heart), and he will go to every single violent-induced length to get it back. However, despite the film being incredibly outrageous with plenty of violence, nudity and gratuitous swearing on show, the film lacks any of the charm that the first film threw in your face at a ridiculous speed.

Jason Statham pulls his one-sided acting persona of a man on a revenge-trip out of the bag (mind, he has it down to a tee now...) and the supporting cast has very little in the way of dialogue, except for when they are screaming for mercy or aiming various weapons at Statham. Yet the most interesting aspect for me was the way in which Neveldine and Taylor used various hand-held cameras to get ‘into the heart of the action’, which worked at times and created some incredibly interesting action shots, but was let down by the editing, which to me, made the majority of scenes (combined with the soundtrack) seem nothing more than annoyingly incoherent extended music videos (especially with the constant juxtaposition of parallel shots side-by-side with extremely fast jump cuts too boot).

‘Crank – High Voltage’ is the epitome of the ‘no-brained action flick’. It seemed as if the directors had decided to see how far they could go after the trivial success of ‘Crank’ and while the film contains every aspect available to get male testosterone pumping, and that’s all the film does. It’s more outrageous than ‘Crank’, but in absolutely no way better than the first film.

I watched two more LDs on my gloriously restored SharpVision projector, man, love the cinema at home feel. Anywho, it was Danzel Washington in Virtuosity and Most Wanted with Keenan Ivory Wayons, who I would say does his best work in this movie, opposite Jon Voight, who is REALLY over the top but gets funny lines regardless.

Recommend them, for one thing though, Virtuosity is interesting for the set design and odd future and present mixing... Just look at the TVs on display all over the film!! Hardly high tech at all, and you see the prices in the store locations!

It's fun to see the young Russell Crowe we hardly knew!

The Truman Show

Jim Carey, in a serious film? After maturing out of comedies with some dignity before they got terrible, Carey proves himself as a respectable and distuinguished actor in this origional and thought provoking film.

I actually thought that was pretty funny, on top of being a great film. I wouldn't of minded seeing that in the top 100 polls even if it didn't win.

Yeah, there is a distinct lack of Jim Carrey slapstick sh*t in The Truman Show. He's managed to get more boring then Robin Williams in that regard.

I think The Truman Show is the best Jim Carrey film ever.

Finally got round to watching City of God today. A really good film, I thoroughly enjoyed it and apparently al these actors had very little acting experience before filming this, remarkable.

Cloverfield:

It isn't the life changing film experience that the viral marketing attention lead me to believe but it's focus on the ground-level action rather than the immense disaster is what separates it from the rest of the pack. Amazing visual effects, I especially loved the scene where the Statue of Liberty's head is tossed down into the street, it was such a powerful scene for me at least. I'm guessing a bit of "inspiration" was taken from Escape from New York in that scene. tounge.gif

I recently watched Cloverfield for the first time since viewing it in the cinema. It had no-where-near the same visual effect, which is something I expected and the reason I was persuading my friends to not wait until DVD release, and watch it in the cinema. The difference is uncanny, and viewing it in the cinema had much more of an effect. The film is still a joy to watch, even with the ongoings.

Lock,Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels.

Rented this last night and this flick is probably going to turn me into a Brit gangster flick fanatic.

It started off kinda sluggish but it got better and it was humourous without going over the top and you could still get the serious tones of the plot with that humor, perfect blend between the two.

I also like the Pulp Fictionesque story it has with all different characters in different situations and their stories all intertwine with eachtohers.

9/10
