Please post more than just the title.

We don't need a War and Peace essay on the film, but at least give a couple of sentences of good and bad points and even throw in a rating if you want to, as long as you give some rationale.

Yeah every random person you see on the streets in every city, can show more facial expressions than this lousy actor.

There is a series called "Manifest" damn, it's the same with the blonde chick there, she only has 2 facial expressions, calm/normal, angry and sad look exactly the same, she never looks happy or anything, it's always just 2 facial expressions.

Talking about this actress.

Melissa_Roxburgh_in_2018_snapshot_3.png

Melissa Roxburgh, she is like the female version of Ryan Gosling, also completly awful.

Well on this pic she smiles, but she never does in the series. :D

Carter (2022)

If Hardcore Henry (2015) and The Villainess (2017) had a child, this would probably be it. This movie is a wild ride. It immediately throws you into action. It's basically like an action video game like Hardcore Henry. The cinematography is phenomenal, but there are a lot of cuts and sloppy editing as well as cheap CGI scattered throughout, which can annoy some and make the movie difficult to watch. There is a lot of camera shake, too, but I'm used to it. The fight scenes are over-the-top and crazy, but still very impressive. The premise is very similar to Hardcore Henry as well; a man wakes up in a virus-ridden world with no recognition of himself, no memories, nothing. He is instructed by a female voice to follow specific instructions, which will result in him being terminated if he does not comply. He is pursued by the CIA and some other bad guys.

I didn't really pay attention to the story all that much. This is a movie that you watch more for the action than the plot. The movie clocks in at just over 2 hours. Despite its lengthy runtime, the movie didn't feel like it dragged at all due to the non-stop action. All in all, it's a fun and entertaining popcorn flick. If you like the movies Hardcore Henry (2015), The Villainess (2017), The Raid (2011), and John Wick (2014), you'll probably have a fun time with this.

Yeah. Carter was cool. Completelly ridiculous, but in a good way. I love that so far we've gotten three of those "action movies pretending they were made in one take " (besides Carther there's also One Show and Crazy Samurai Musashi) and each one is redically different from the others.

I don't really watch "new" movies anymore but I somehow stumbled upon a random Blade Runner 2049 clip on YouTube and the visuals looked stunning so I decided to give the movie a shot. When it came out I assumed it was yet another inferior remake of a classic but I didn't realize how wrong I was. It's not even a remake but a full blown sequel and the shocking thing is that it's actually better than the original in pretty much every single way. It's sad to see the movie performed badly with the movie studios involved losing money but they made a visually stunning and compelling movie. I'm curious what the Amazon series will be like, assuming it doesn't get cancelled.

Orphan: First Kill (2022)

MV5BZjgwNDA3MmUtMTQ3Yy00ZDFmLTgwMTktNTBl

I really enjoyed the first one, so I was pretty excited for this one, especially when I learned it was going to be a prequel that will explain the antagonist's origins. I've watched it twice already. It's a solid prequel to the 2009 film that explains things pretty well, and is an effective lead up to that film. It has its own twists and turns that make the movie more interesting. It's obviously not as good as the 2009 film, but it's still a decent prequel which I think I will satisfy Orphan fans. And, of course, actress Isabelle Fuhrman once again does a phenomenal job at portraying her role.

I got no idea why Ryan Gosling is so popular, he is one of the worst actors in history of movies, hmm probably because women like how he looks, i mean he can't act at all. That guy is so overrated, i only watched 2 movies he was in and in both he totally sucked. I only watched Blade Runner 2049 and i think Drive, and in both he was just awful.

Top Gun: Maverick

I found the first Top Gun extremely uninteresting so I was surprised to find me liking this one a lot!

The story is action-packed and over the top and the filming of the aircraft is beautifully done. I'd definitely recommend watching it in theaters though.

Hellbound (1994)

Print: Spanish DVD

Director: Aaron Norris

Frank Shatter (Chuck Norris) and his partner Calvin Jackson from Chicago PD face the ultimate enemy.

A medieval demon Prosatanos (basically Antichrist). He's been imprisoned by King Richard and his knights 1186,

but a pair of greedy grave robbers accidentally set him free 1951.

Prosatanos's magical scepter was also cut to 9 pieces and scattered around the world, to be held hidden by holy men.

He begins to collect the pieces, needs it to be complete to kick off Armageddon.

Shatter & Jackson travel to snoop the root of all evil, an excavation site in Israel.

Jackson is hungry all the time, quite funnily he does not get a single chance to eat during their entire trip.

And he also loses his wallet to the local kids who nick wallets from American tourists.

After few twists turns, and a break in to local police station they begin to realize what the devil is going on.

Prosatanos has kidnapped an attractive female archaeologist, for her blood is royal.

Royal blood is absolutely needed or Armageddon will become a fiasco.

Team Shatter and Jackson vs Prosatanos. It's a close one but we don't need a referee when Norris is in the ring.

Not in the high tier of Norris movies, but the whole thing is quite over-the-top.

Missed hilarious one liners and fighting was not as impressive as it is in the 80s movies.

Prosatanos (Christopher Neame) was the most interesting character.

Blue belt.

I just watched the movie "1917", it's a movie about WW1, 2 soldiers get the order to deliver a message to a Colonel, to prevent that a lot of soldiers run into an ambush of the germans.

It's a One-Cut movie, it felt special watching it. The effects, the sounds and all are very well made, the movie is very simple, well the plot is, but still has it's depth somehow. It really is a unique movie.

If you like "one take" movies, you might like Victoria (2015). Unlike most "one take" movies, this one is actually shot in a single continuous take, and isn't multiple takes stitched together to make look as if it was one take. What makes it even more impressive is that's 138 minutes long. Utøya: July 22 (2018) and Boiling Point (2021) are also one take films you might like.

Phantasm (1979)

Print: Anchor Bay DVD Box (Phantasm I-IV + Special Features Disc)

Director: Don Coscarelli

Wow, I did not remember how exquisite and original Phantasm was.

It probably felt super weird and scary in preteens or teens, when ever I saw it.

In the beginning it seems like a typical supernatural possession horror movie.

But deep within this is bizarre eerie trip like David Lynch's Eraserhead.

Just like in dream, the most weird things happen and leave you wondering dumbfounded.

I'm not able to put my thoughts together and describe meaningfully what I've just watched lol.

Maybe I have to use tune fork to calibrate my dwarf brain before watching it again.

B-gem with a high replay value. The score is also amazing.

9/10.

Why would anyone wanna watch a movie about the Breivik massacre? That guy is one of the few ppl, that really deserves the death penalty, i would never watch a movie about that sick f*ck.

The Batman (2022)

Something that I found noteworthy was how awkward the Bruce and Alfred pair was in this movie. I don't know if it's by design but feels like they barely had any time together and when they did it was kinda odd to me. It's like these characters clearly care about each other but dont get along.

Also did Alfred recover from his hospital visit or what? Don't think they showed that, weirdly.

We barely got to see Bruce Wayne it feels like, most of the time he's behind the mask.

Pattinson was great behind the mask though.

Riddler was a great villain, in fact all the villains were well done I thought, I liked the Penguin and Falcone too. I kinda want to see a villain in Arkham who's just a manipulative power hungry person than the more tragic backstory type villains like Riddler and Joker, the latter two are great but let's see a different kind of villain.

Be interesting to see that Penguin tv series if it happens

Same reason why someone would want to watch a movie based on any other real life event (e.g. WW2, 9/11, Titanic sinking, Boston Bombings, Columbine Massacre, etc.): to see how it all unfolded. As tragic as they are, they are major parts of history. It makes perfect sense as to why someone would want to a watch a movie that's based on a real life tragic event. I mean, why would anyone want to watch a movie where people kill, fictional or not?

I was surprised last night when this film showed up on amazon primevideo with no early access payperview fee, usually new films from the  big screen  take a month or so early access fee of either $24 or $6.99 fee and  last night it had neither, the film was ok, the rating at IMDb was to high and it was a  average  movie at best, giving bad guys facial paint and piercing's  is a bad stereotype and was uncalled for and the blasphemy on a ten or twelve year old was bad too

Yeah, I am one of those people who grew up in the 80’s but I don’t have the nostalgic love for Top Gun. I don’t think that it is a particularly great film, which is probably an unpopular opinion. The sequel is very good though.

Anyway…

Last year i watched Terminator 2, for the first time ever.

Today i watched it again, damn it's like one of the best movies that exists.

I watched it in 2160p with HDR, and good sound. I got a good Teufel 1000 Watts Sound System, and i got no neighbours, i can watch movies really really loud.

A real BluRay Rip, damn like the best quality there is out there, probably better than any Stream.

It is weird, but mostly downloaded stuff has much higher quality than Streams. If from the right source it looks and sounds better than Streams, yeah BluRay Rips for the win. Downloaded stuff has original quality like BluRay, compared to Streams. Streams just suck, they always suck compared to BluRay.

I still haven't given it a watch, to be honest. I still have it downloaded, sitting on my PC. I'm just waiting for the time where I'm bored and have nothing else to watch. I didn't enjoy Fallen Kingdom, so I don't exactly have high hopes for this, especially after all the bad reviews.

I distinctly remember being sat in a cinema in 1993 watching the first Jurassic Park, and I was just one person of a packed theater with my jaw on the floor. It was just magnificent, and still is considering it celebrates its 30th anniversary next year. The CGI bringing this stuff to life though, amazing as it was then, is pretty much TV fare these days.

Samaritan (2022)

We watched this latest Amazon Prime Video offering from Sylvester Stallone last night. The story is that he is one of two masked invincible superhero / vigilante type brothers, one of whom is good, the titular Samaritan, and one who is bad, known as Nemesis. There is a short prelude at the start where all this is explained in a kind of comic-book montage. Twenty five years ago, they fought in Granite City (a run-down sh*t hole which is supposedly a bit like Gotham City) and both apparently died in the ensuing explosion.

In the present day, a thirteen year old boy who lives in a tiny apartment in Granite CIty with his single mother and is obsessed with the legend of Samaritan, becomes convinced that the lonely Joe Smith (Stallone) who lives in the apartment block opposite, is in fact, Samaritan.

And that's it really. There are some bad guys, some action scenes at the end and a not-very-shocking-at-all twist which seemed rather pointless.

Stallone is watchable enough, as he always is. He seems to be thickening out into a kind of rectangular block though these days. He's a long way from the lithe action star that he was in the 80's, but that isn't taking anything away from a guy who is 76 years old. I think that he actually deserves better than this.

So, I would say that this film is just okay, if you have nothing better to watch.

Just watched the first two of Daniel Craig's Bond movies. All I can really say is meh... They both seemed to just drag on needlessly. The plots are somehow overly simplistic and overly convoluted at the same time. Between the two movies I think they only really commanded my full attention for maybe a total of half an hour or so.

Still, I've heard that Skyfall is really good so I'm currently giving that a try. Liking it okay so far.

From Daniel Craig's tenure, I think that Casino Royale and Skyfall are his best. I didn't care much for Quantum of Solace nor Spectre. His last outing, No Time to Die - hmm, the jury is still out on that one with me.

Watched two films over the last few days, both from my Amazon video purchases

Escape from New York (1981)

There can't be that many people by now who haven't seen this science-fiction classic from John Carpenter. For those who haven't, where have you been?

The plot is great. In the near future (1997 actually, from 1981's point of view) the entire island of Manhattan, New York becomes the United States' maximum security prison for the entire country. A huge wall is erected around the island and the inmates inside are left to fend for themselves. As a voice-over at the start explains, "There are no guards inside the prison only prisoners and the worlds they have made. The rules are simple, once you go in, you don't come out"

When the President's plane is deliberately crashed by hijackers into the city, police commissioner Bob Hauk (the late, great Lee Van Cleef) hatches a plan to rescue the country's leader. He enlists the help of former special forces soldier turned convicted criminal Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell in a career defining role), who is about to be dispatched to the prison. Hauk offers him a full pardon if he rescues the President (Donald Pleasance) and the politically sensitive tape recording in his briefcase within 24 hours, Plissken accepts and unwittingly allows himself to be injected with microscopic, timed explosives, which prevent his escape, with the promise that they will be neutralised if he gets the President out. If he doesn't before the clock runs down, he's dead.

What follows then is a really atmospheric, top notch bit of action sci-fi. Plissken flies into the prison in a stealth glider and begins searching the ruined city for the President. He learns that the President is being held to ransom by the inmates' leader "The Duke" (Isaac Hayes) As such, he has to race against the clock to get him out, getting help along the way from Cabbie (Ernest Borgnine) plus an old associate of his going by the name of Brain (Harry Dean Stanton) and Brain's 'squeeze' Maggie (Adrienne Barbeau)

Escape from New York is excellent. Timeless. It is a really, really good film in my opinion. Despite the fact that it was probably made on a shoestring budget with 1981 effects, it looks amazing and still holds up as a cracking bit of science fiction / action. The cast is superb, and Russell embodies the anti-hero Snake Plissken totally. He has become an almost iconic movie character.

Russell and Carpenter would team up again to do the follow up (remake) film Escape from LA, which wasn't as well received.

Once Were Warriors (1994)

In another career-defining role for New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison, Once Were Warriors is a drama from Lee Tamahori, which centres around an impoverished Maori family living in the inner city suburb of Auckland.

Jake "The Muss" Heke (Morrison) is the imposing, hard-drinking, violent patriarch of the Heke family. His marriage to his wife Beth (the wonderful Rena Owen) is both passionate, but brutally violent. They live in social housing with their children Ng (Julian Arahanga) a young man who seeks solace from his violent father in an even more violent Maori street gang, Grace (Mamaengaroa Kerr-Bell) a sweet-natured 13 year old who is friends with a homeless boy who lives in a car, Boogie, the delinquent middle son who ends up in care, and the two youngest children, whose names I forget.

Jake's life consists of getting drunk at the bar, fighting the local patrons, holding riotous, violent parties at his house and generally being an all-round asshole. This toxic lifestyle comes to a head when one of Jake's friends "Uncle" Bully rapes Grace during one of their endless house parties. Grace commits suicide, to her mother's utter despair, and sets in motion the events which lead to the film's violent climax.

Once Were Warriors is a bleak and violent film, but it is also a superbly acted and eminently watchable. It does shine a light on the plight of indigenous Maori people living in New Zealand, highlighting the problems of prejudice, poverty, domestic abuse, alcohol and crime. Rena Owen and Temuera Morrison especially are incredible, and it is amazing to think that the good-humoured actor is capable of turning in such a frightening and ferocious performance. Jake is a complete monster, almost psychopathic. Morrison would go on to reprise the role in the sequel What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?, which isn't quite as good but still an interesting film as it deals with a redemption of sorts for Jake the Muss.

"Me Time" on Netflix, not bad. For those without a Netflix subscription , here is a good article about best firestick apps.

With this little streaming device , vpn and proper settings i think we can stream almost all the movies and episodes available online.

It is a good alternative to all those platforms where you have to pay a monthly fee.

I watched the extended version yesterday night, it wasn't completly bad, but it definitely wasn't good, i would rate it 5/10. Sure the effects and sound and all was good, but as usual lately in most movies, the dialogues were just bad, the story was pretty bad too. Typical Hollywood BS. I didn't like the red haired female main actor, she was just horrible, it was like she had her mouth open for some reason 90% of the time. I hate it if ppl do that, the black female pilot also wasn't a good actor. The rest of the cast was okay.

The soundtrack gave me cringe vibes, they added the classic Jurassic Park soundtrack every once in a while. All that did was, wanting me to watch the classic Jurassic Park movie instead, back when movies still were entertaining and fun to watch.

It felt a bit like watching that latest Ghostbusters movie, where part of the cast from the original movies show up, and it still sucked. Many of these sequels lately, feel like this.

The end was just horrible, it hurt to watch the screen, when these large dinosaurs fought each other. It felt so forced that there must be a T-Rex in the final scenes, and f*ck that Giganotosaurus or whatever it was called, jesus it was just baaaad. Yeah sure that dinosaur existed, but it felt so forced seeing a T-Rex fight it.

Death Weekend AKA The House by the Lake (1976)
Print: NSM Records/Lionsgate Bluray
Director: William Fruet

A rich dentist Harry and his new catch Diane are about to spend a romantic weekend at Harry's vast rural grounds by the lake.
En route in Harry's cabriolet a group of despicable dirtbags appear to harass them, challenging to a race.
The vile guys end up drifting shamefully into a ditch racing against Diane.
Leader of the low-lifers, Lep is seriously pissed. They get the vehicle rolling and track their way to Harry's country house.
The house is turned upside down so to speak. The couple is being terrorized by the gang until the woman fills up and reclaims her fourfold revenge.

My expectations were so-so with yet another "house" by somewhere rape & revenge title but was positively surprised.
Not nearly as rough or sleazy as some other examples from same sub-genre, but the atmosphere was very likeable.

Was also fun at times, largely due to the disturbed behavior and appearance of the baddies. Acting was convincing.

Definitely incited to take a look on the other directions by William Fruet.

Parasite(2019)

A movie I disliked yet thought was really good. Disliked because I found the Kim family to be scumbags who ruined everything they touched and everyone they interacted with. But the movie was compelling viewing, even the first half was interesting and when the housekeeper makes her return, oh man.

Seeing the YouTube videos afterwards explain the foreshadowing and imagery I missed makes me respect what the director has achieved with this movie, though because of how much I disliked the Kims its hard for me to say I liked it.

Moonfall: I'm not even sure. It does all the right things, ticks all the right boxes, it just does them all so unbelievably terribly that it's almost fascinating to watch. It gets banana pants crazy towards the end and I kinda wish it could have been that way throughout.

Pinocchio (2022): Meh... I was never a big fan of the animated version and this is pretty much just that again. Mostly watched it for the visuals and I really liked the look of it.

Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

I am one of the few people who never really cared for the original Top Gun film. We watched this as it got glowing reviews on release plus the wife digs Tom Cruise. I have to say though, I didn't really like this one either.

A now 60 year old Tom Cruise, who is obviously immortal, reprises his role as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell from the original, the same risk-taking, hot-shot pilot as he was over thirty years ago. After crashing a very expensive stealth type fighter during a test where he (naturally) pushes the plane's speed beyond acceptable limits for reasons, he is transferred back to Top Gun to train the latest group of jingoistic aviators with equally eye-roll inducing call-signs for a dangerous mission against another unknown "enemy".

One of these young pilots is "Rooster", the son of his mate "Goose" from the first film. The one who ejected into his canopy and was killed. Of course there is some angst about this all being Maverick's fault and whatnot. So they embark on all kinds of training exercises in the jets where there is lots of shouting and hollering and Maverick showing why he is the best of the best of the best of the best. Then they go on the mission against "the enemy"

I dunno. I just find this stuff boring, and the whole "I'm the best of the best Hangman!" "You're not the best of the best Rooster, you just get people killed!" <cue bar brawl> type stuff just annoys me in my old age. Plus, I don't really care about their mission, because there's no context to who these villains are. Like the first film, you don't find out. The mission is just a McGuffin for all the other nonsense to take place against I know, but it's hard to really invest if you don't know why or who they are up against. The cinematography is good though, the shots in the planes are decent enough. Nice to see Val Kilmer again, even if his current health status is all too evident.
