Thoughts On The Last Movie You've Seen

Please post more than just the title.

We don't need a War and Peace essay on the film, but at least give a couple of sentences of good and bad points and even throw in a rating if you want to, as long as you give some rationale.

The last film I saw in the cinema is "Beauty and the Beast"

The Wizard of Oz, still one of my all time faves. I love Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Judy Garland had an amazing voice.

Sanjuro is a brilliant piece of film making by Japanese master Akira Kurosawa; a follow up to the well renowned Yojimbo most commonly known as the movie Sergio Leone practically ripped off for A Fistful of Dollars.

Tis movie feels like a solid improvement in almost every way. It might have not inspired a dozen unofficial remakes and it tends to be forgotten in Akira's impressive filmography, but nonetheless I found it to be an improvement over its predecessor. Toshiro Mifune shines as Sanjuro; who not only oozes cool and retains his dark sense of humor but the movie aims to explore a different side to the character, a depiction of his inner struggle as a wondering vagabond with a lot of blood on his hands. The nine samurai he leads are all well characterized, acted and play off of each other and Sanjuro really well. It's a beautifully shot movie and considering its release dates it has some surprisingly decent choreography. The last 5 minutes are an absolute work of art and I think its safe to say this is now one of my favorite movies.

Pretty relentless creature. I would've stroked out before it got to me. Tragic ending was nicely done, though some camera work cut away so often during darkly lit action scenes that I felt they were covering up for expensive CGI called for.

Memories_of_Murder_poster.jpg

Or commonly known by its English name, Memories of Murder.

I was a bit iffy about this movie at first. The cinematography is beautiful, the acting is great [i mean it's foreign so its hard to differentiate between bad/good tbh but I thought everyone did a great job] but it's really slow till around the half way mark. Just sort of plods through from beat to beat but I was hooked by its central mystery; and the movie just kept amping up and up till it reached its conclusion which was absolutely immense and horrifying in the most subtle, brilliant ways possible. It'snot just a detective story that's gripping due to its roots in a real life unresolved serial murder case, but it's a look into the turbulence of South Korean society at the time and the dangers of mob mentality.

In regards to the ending

It's absolutely chilling to the f*cking bone when you realize that with the case being unresolved to this very day; and it's relative recency the murderer is still out there and he was likely watching the film with everyone else. When Park Doo breaks the fourth wall and stares at the camera, he harkens back to earlier in the film where he talked about being capable of telling the innocent from the guilty by looking at their eyes. The ending is directly addressing the actual killer who was likely sitting in theaters watching a movie about his own twisted work.

I finally got a chance to watch Snowden & Hacksaw Ridge.

While Snowden was okay i had to force myself to watch the whole thing as it got rather boring but Hacksaw Ridge was two words..... Simply Awesome!

I haven't watched a lot of movies lately unfortunately but the last movie I have watched is Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in the cinema. I think that the movie is amazing, I actually thought at first that the movie would not match my expectations so I decided not to have high expectations and just watch the movie without expecting it being like Harry Potter too much. I was never bored or thinking that I needed to run out of the cinema. There were a few scenes where I got goosebumps or that a tear almost rolled down my cheek. But I think that people who also liked Harry Potter will like this movie as well, of course.

This movie makes me want to kill myself lmao. This is one of those movies you watch once and question everything around you, who you are, I won't watch it again. It's perfect after one viewing.

25th Hour is a Spike Lee joint in the truest sense. It's not just the story of a drug dealer living out his last 24 hours of freedom, but is powerful amalgamation of the tragedy that was 9/11 and an honest, soul peering look into New York City and on some scale America as a whole. A star studded cast with Edward Norton giving a familiar, but ultimately strong performance and with names like Brian C and Rosario Dawson as the supporting cast. it's a smartly written drama that manages to be both tragic and insightful in it's look at one of America's darkest hours.

Gibson actually had to tone some of it down because the real story was so damn out there.

Anyways:

there_will_be_blood_ver4_xlg.jpg

This is precisely why Daniel Day Lewis is considered one of the best, if not THE best actor working today, period. There Will Be Blood is both a story of rags to riches and a character study of a descent into madness; a story of greed, family, isolation and betrayal. It looks at the hold of capitalism and its reconciliation with human decency through a singular troubled man and his upwards descent. Highly recommend if just for DDL's immense performance.

25th Hour is one of favourite films. It's definitively in my top 5. I'm often surprised that it not many people I know have seen it. Also, it's a must-see if you are a self-respecting Phillip Seymour Hoffman fan.

It's noir. It has style, humor, drama and heart. It has Ralph Fiennes starring opposite of Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. It's a dreamy blend of light hearted well written characters with fantastic chemistry, talented actors playing off of each other really selling us on their bond and relationship. And beneath all that is a story of punishment and forgiveness, of second chances. Just a good bit of everything is in here and i'd highly recommend this for anyone looking for something a bit on the lighter side but still with sufficient depth and story.

Good old Eraserhead...

It was, something alright. I only ever watched Twin Peaks which was nowhere NEAR as weird as this, probably because David Lynch did not do everything 100% with it since he worked with Mark Frost. Anyways, well, I did not like this movie in a traditional sense, it was a very uncomfortable, dull, and repugnant little film that just drags on and on. That is also why I like it as an experience more than entertainment, it is not meant to be a movie that excites or entertains in a traditional way, it is here to give you an odd experience that leaves you wondering WHAT afterwards.
