Thoughts On The Last Movie You've Seen

Please post more than just the title.

We don't need a War and Peace essay on the film, but at least give a couple of sentences of good and bad points and even throw in a rating if you want to, as long as you give some rationale.

Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck

It's very good. It gives an excellent insight into who Kurt was thanks to lots of never before seen home video footage, interviews and his own writing. The film has quite a schizophrenic style and doesn't aim to give you a particular account of Kurt's life; rather it presents you with him and many snapshots and tales from his life and let's you make of it what you will. It's easy enough to follow though because it's structured chronologically. There's interviews with family and friends interwoven that helps tie it all together. The film brings us up to his death but doesn't really speculate on the reason for it. That's up to us. Personally I left it feeling that he took his own life and no conspiracy was at work. It felt like an honest film and whether or not you're a fan of Nirvana it's essential.

Watch this On Demand tonight it was pretty funny, I've always enjoyed movies with Kevin Hart and/or Will Ferrell in them

Snowpiercer

A friend of mine made me watch snowpiercer and wanted to watch my reaction to it, and it was astonishing. Astonishing how it got such great reviews, it was pure f*cking nonsense, it is something that I think has to be experienced and honestly, I somewhat enjoyed the film for what it was, a sequence of random crap, but it seemed they were aiming to be this big thought-provoking film riding off the inception wave, I would say it failed in that by a huge margin and it also failed to even follow a cohesive narrative. I would recommend watching this film high or drunk or just if you are very eccentric.

It starts off with some exposition as to how this alternative and frankly insane future came to be; humans try climate engineering to counteract global warming and it backfires resulting in an ice age. I now quote from the film "All life is extinct" Remember those crucial words. Now of course we have an exception, otherwise it wouldn't be much of a film, the only survivors are passengers of a train powered by perpetual motion, not anything sensible like an underground vault using perpetual motion for a generator, no, a train, but f*ck it let's roll with it,

Below is a brief summary of the film in bullet points highlighting memorable moments, there a re a lot, mostly memorable because of the ludicrousness.

Some of the insane moments in this film include, but not limited to:

  • a man getting his arm frozen off by being outside for 7 minutes (remember this for later)
  • A woman calling the entire tail section shoes, and herself a hat in some twisted class metaphor.
  • Taking a massive leap of faith that the guards haven't made new bullets in several years
  • Having 2 characters speak Korean with no subtitles, but in place of subtitles we have little translator thingies that are so damn quiet you have to be a bat to hear (this is how stuck up its own arse this film is)
  • Suddenly realising one of them is clairvoyant, for no reason, there was no supernatural sh*t before this.
  • Realising the protein bars they were eating were bugs all along, despite ALL LIFE ON EARTH BEING EXTINCT! (except them) WHERE ARE THEY GETTING THE BUGS!

This is where the insanity sets in and it starts looking like a parody: It isn't

  • A train cart suddenly filled with balaclava wearing, hatchet-wielding madmen.
  • A sudden live fish shows up as they slice it open, why? for intimidation, also where did they get the fish? Why is it still alive?
  • Suddenly all the hatchet men are Sam Fisher
  • Then suddenly the cavalry arrives for our heroes in the form of the Olympic torch
  • The mrs Shoe-Hat Lady, to avoid torture or death utters the words and I sh*t you not "I KNOW THE TRAIN" yeah because they would get lost otherwise, might end up going f*cking backwards, trains these days, bloody labyrinths. We need to just take a moment and appreciate that stellar line of dialogue.
  • Then suddenly bullets show up again, lots of bullets.
  • Then we suddenly meet the secret terminator who survives all sorts of stupid sh*t and is never explained why he is so durable to survive being so f*cked over as he was. You could make a drinking game of how much this guy survives.
  • Now almost all the main characters are dead, all of them suddenly and with no real purpose (actually a thing I appreciate) we are left with very few.
  • Suddenly the main character can understand Korean without the translator thing that suddenly topped working
  • Also all the exposition in that scene and indeed the whole film is in korean, unsubtitled. Yes I am f*cking serious.
  • Then we meet the maker of the train who tries so hard at being the architect from Matrix Reloaded it is laughable.
  • Then Korean guy blows up the train, leaving 2 survivors to walk outside who are oddly fine despite the whole arm freezing thing earlier
  • and they see a polar bear despite ALL LIFE ON EARTH BEING EXTINCT

This is as short summary of the plot I can do to show the insanity at play here, I left a few minor things out that were honestly tame compared to the rest of the film like the random mosh pit, there is that much nonsensical crap in this film, it literally makes no sense, how people think it is a good deep story just baffles me. It is an enjoyable film, because it is just so crazy.

While I really enjoyed the movie, it is pretty ridiculous and a lot of stuff don't make any sense. You left out some parts:

- Pig/cow carcasses hanging in the freezer car. Where the f*ck did they get those animals?

- Where do all those hundreds of rich folk living in the front of the train sleep?

- the part where they shoot at each other through the windows with pinpoint accuracy while the train is moving doesn't even make any sense whatsoever.

- they say no one has ever walked the full length of the train, but what about that bitch in yellow that took the children. She has done so many times before whenever they needed replacements, which I would assume happened regularly because kids grow..

Etc. Still enjoyed the movie though

Thanks for those extra points, ha, I actually remarked on that bitch in yellow too while watching the movie, doi, must have forgot to type that one down.

I mainly enjoyed it because I was having such fun taking the piss out of it, kinda like Troy and Abed watching ''Kickpuncher''

I recently just watched a film called "the terminal" old Tom Hanks film about a man stuck in an airport because he has become a stateless person, kinda like that iranian guy who was stuck in CDG airport for 18 years. Pretty decent film, nothing special, quite funny in places.

Snowpiercer

Snowpiercer is probably one of the best films of its year, of course people dont realize that the whole train is a metaphor of morality and that everytime the hero moves forward someone has to die, and that hes never alone a single time in the train until hes on the front.

And then of course people thinks the stuff that is shown more clearly is dumb, like the classicism or the indoctrination.

Also if youre going to nitpick the movie, at least make sure theres not a perfectly logical explanation, or even a visual cue for the things you complain about. (I really dont want to make a long rebuttal list, so just use reason).

OT: I saw Unforgiven again, its just as good (and slow) as i remember it, also i miss Gene Hackman, such a shame he retired.

Been holding it off since forever, I have a backlog of movies I never watch and it takes ages for me to get around to them. This was one of them. So f*cking badass, dude, time passed by in a flash. One of those films where I can just switch my brain off for a bit for some mindless fun. Keanu Reeves is just f*cking amazing in this, so up his alley. God, I won't spoil anything in case anyone hasn't seen it yet like I hadn't, but that Night Club scene was one of the best action scenes I've ever seen, ever, without a doubt.

I've never been a big Action guy at all, but when it's do right, I get really in to it. I just loved everything about this, the feel of it, the characters, the cast. So many good qualities to it. Love the setting too. If someone hasn't seen this yet, then don't be an idiot like me and leave it too long, I'm baffled as to why this wasn't at the front of my list. It's just one of those movies you watch, and it gives you such a damn adrenaline rush and I watched it late at night too, so I ended up not sleeping well last night lol because I just was in the action mood.

Watching B-movies is a great hobby by itself, im not too fond of most of the stuff that Syfy produces but im a big fan of 80s-90s B-movies.

I recommend personally Robot Jox (cheesy, but good and with a message like Robocop), Xtro (amazing special effects for a B-movie) and Hands of Steel (like a Jackie Chan movie, except the protagonist's car steals all the scenes).

The movie was alright and I was caught up in it, but in my opinion, it's nothing special. The plot twist caught me off guard and I wasn't expecting it at all, it definitely got me off guard and was carried nicely through the film. If you're a fan of the Terminator Series, as I very much am, I would definitely recommend the movie.

Well, it was the second Scorsese movie that I've seen. The first one is The Departed, it's still good, but it's ending and love-triangle element are kinda irked me.

I might watching other Scorsese movies after trip.

Just as a bit of trivia back when Goodfellas was made (1990) Joe Pesci had to make a huge transition from being foul mouthed Tommy to Harry in Home Alone which also came out in 1990. Not too many actors can pull off such a polarizing difference.

Oh man, this was good. Its one of those films where you don't want to say much to anyone else though. I'm really big in to mysterious films like this that don't give away much to the viewers as to what's happening. Be warned though that's it's the slow burn type, and if you're not in to that kind of stuff you will probably not like it. It's so worth sticking with though, it really picks up after the initial scenes, and the build-up is perfect. The tension is absolutely engrossing throughout, I was almost biting my nails sitting through this.

If you haven't watched this, do it now please and then come and thank me later.
