Last Movie You've Seen

Crokey

Please post more than just the title.

We don't need a War and Peace essay on the film, but at least give a couple of sentences of good and bad points and even throw in a rating if you want to, as long as you give some rationale.

I watched The Christmas Chronicles and Johnny English 3 yesterday, both are pretty good movies. The Christmas Chronicles is IMO one of the better Christmas movies in the last few years, along with Daddy's Home 2.Johnny English 3 seems better than the second one IMO,but I can't really tell is it better than the first one since I haven't seen that one in a long time.I'm also glad Ben Miller is back as Bough.I also rewatched Home Alone 1 and 2, Elf, and Jingle All The Way on Christmas Eve and Christmas.

I as of late watched there will be blood yet the consummation was extremely disappointing for me, The completion was excessively similar to A Clockwork Orange, you know (mangazuki has goddess creation system manga can be read) an amusing closure, yet it sometimes fell short for There will be Blood as it was a genuine dramatization. The chief attempted to be excessively similar to Kubrick in the film, he utilized the music from The Shining an excessive amount of.

Went and saw Welcome to Marwen at the theater recently. Can definitely see where it'll connect with the artistic and creative types, plus it's a good against-type casting of Carell, but it feels mostly flat. There's a lot more to the story and the characters that just couldn't fit into the runtime, and the seemingly intentional awkwardness relates exactly that to the audience. A few good laughs, some topics and content I'm sure will make some folks uncomfortable, and a topic that needs another pass at.

I had wanted to see American Honey for a while now, it was recently added to Netflix so I got my chance.

it's a very enjoyable watch, the visuals are great, it's filmed in the 4:3 aspect ratio which I didn't think I'd like but it works well, it makes it seem more personal, almost documentary like. Overall the cinematography is great, with rich visuals and the occasional use of handhelds gives a more intimate feel.

Storywise I found it very engrossing, it's a slice of life type of film, more character driven than plot driven, the main character of Star is an interesting character whose personality I enjoyed seeing unfold. The emsamble cast is balanced well, besides the main characters the rest were given enough screentime so they didn't just seem like extras.

Newcomer Sasha Lane plays the main character, she's great, her chemistry with Shia LaBeouf is electric. All the cast were very strong. The runtime is 2 hours 40 mins, it's paced well and doesn't drag on. It's a movie I look forward to rewatching in the future.

This was also on my list for some time too. I had it in my possession at one stage but never got around to watching it.  Glad to hear it's on Netflix. I'll give it a watch.

It's well worth a watch imo. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on it.

American Venom

Holmes & Watson. Despite all the negative reviews I kinda went into it expecting it to be stupid and that's what it was, but I still enjoyed it.

It's ironic because it basically played out like a subtle parody of itself which is what made so hilarious if you ask me. It seems like no ones gets these type of movies anymore.

Venom (2018)-IMDb I was hesitant to watch it thinking it be a rip off of Spawn (1997)-imdb, but venom was pretty entertaining and had some good crack lines to laugh at, I ordered it off of Canadian payperview last night

A star is born.

Definitely a movie that is divided into two distinct acts. The first one beautiful, the second one devastating. Both tearjerkers in their own way. What made it even engaging is that the Chemistry Between lady gaga and Bradley Cooper just radiated off the screen. Plus, would be remised to mention it produced some great songs as well, not least of which, Shallow. All in all, this has to be my favourite going into the Oscars.

Breaking Bad

Very touching & emotional film. In many ways, I can relate to the main character. I just really love coming-of-age movies like this when they're done right, they always tug at the right heartstrings and have a lot to relate over.

The King Of Comedy is like Taxi Driver in many ways. It's a return of the Scorsese/DeNiro partnership with DeNiro playing a character of Rupert Pupkin, a man with some sort of mental or personality disorder that aspires to be someone else. The film was kind of ignored when it came out, apparently, and was favored more over time.  It's a strange one because I'm not sure what Scorsese is trying to say with this story. I suppose it's a critique and satire on celebrity culture and celebrity worship. I think Scorsese is really interested in the mind and how people border on insanity and how it manifests in their daily lives as they follow the American dream - think of Goodfellas and Wolf of Wall Street, Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy. They centre around extraordinary people that go to great lengths to get what they want to the detriment of themselves and everyone around them.

It's kind of hard to talk about this film without spoiling it too much but if you like Scorsese and DeNiro, it's worth watching.

Weird. The last movie I watched had DeNiro in it too, but it was Dirty Grandpa.😛

The Favourite (2019)

the-favourite-review-header-thumb-700xau

Went to see The Favourite today. Wasn't expecting too much as I had only watched a trailer a few weeks ago and didn't know anything about it going in. To my surprise, it was a dramedy.  A quite dark and twisted dramedy but quite laugh-out-loud at times. This film is written and directed by Yorgos Lathimos (The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer) so it's wouldn't be for everyone. Those that do like something a little different and dare I say, quite original, will appreciate it.  It's one of those films that on RT, 94% of critics rated it favourably whereas 62% of the audience found it favourable.

The film is about a woman (Emma Stone) who lost her title of Lady as her family lost their money and status. She ends up working as a low-level maid for the Queen (Elizabeth Coleman). She quickly uses her cunning to get closer to the Queen and the Queen's right-hand lady who has the Queen's ear and can influence her decisions, especially in matters of war and politics,  played by Rachel Weisz starts to feel threatened. All sorts of madness ensues which I wont spoil.

I'd recommend for those looking for something a bit different. It's full of dark, humour, a satire of the types of aristocratic people back then, with sharp, witty humour.

I have been watching tokyo ghoul anime just after i watched its movie which was originally in japanese and i had to find an english dubbed version of it. i could never think that it would be so great. The videography, soundtracks and all the characters are so lovable that you feel immersed in the whole world that they have built around the Ghouls and humans. It's a new concept if you aren't into manga and anime. And i was dying to watch something new this time around. I even got that amazing masks of their main character Kaneki Ken. Overall i would rate Tokyo Ghoul 9/10 and it's a must watch for anyone looking to watch something other than hollywood movies.

Lonely-Martin

A few more, some older, some newer, I'll try to brief. :)

The Predator.

I cannot recommend this film to a fan of the original, sequel, and even the Adrian Brody one, it really wasn't good enough for me. It's AvP: Requiem levels of bad, IMO. Just added lots of swearing, CGI gore, that really wasn't the best, Just for the sake of it. The jokes were just crap and if anything, distract you from the simplest of plots. I really hope the new RoboCop and Terminator films don't go this far wrong!

And the last few moments, oh my. Genuinely terrible.

Mission Impossible: Fallout.

An awesome flick indeed. I do enjoy the series and it really hit a home run here. Good baddies, solid plot, great set pieces. A great follow up to the previous one too. Henry Cavill plays a good bad guy and does what previous Superman actors couldn't so well, shakes that 'good guy' image well. Sean Harris is an awesome bad guy too here.

I highly recommend this to an action movie fan.

Killing Gunther.

It's no epic for sure. To be fair, I was starting to get bored of this flick by halfway, and was disappointed by how little screen time Arnie got here. That said, he was really having fun and made me laugh out loud a good couple of times. It's a simple plot of a group of hitmen trying to take out the legend, but with today's reality TV in mind. It was ok.

Not too bad a film, but don't expect too much.

Escape Plan 2.

Really enjoyed the first as it's genuinely a good flick, so went in hopeful. Oops. This is terrible, don't. I really have nothing positive to say. Not even 1 star!

Legend.

Caught this on film 4 just the other day again. Had to mention it as I feel Tom Hardy was on real top form here playing duel roles. I'd seen this upon release, but it was very worth a second watch too. I've a soft spot for many English gangster/crime flicks like this, but do feel this is one of the better ones.

I recommend this on Hardy alone.

We watch plenty of movies here, I could've added a good dozen, lol. Thanks for reading, until next time... :)

Fender Bender (2016)

A great slasher that really captures the essence of 80's slashers and has that 80's mood and style. The cinematography, the music, etc, The killer looked menacing, too.
