Last Movie You've Seen

Crokey

Please post more than just the title.

We don't need a War and Peace essay on the film, but at least give a couple of sentences of good and bad points and even throw in a rating if you want to, as long as you give some rationale.

"Heat"

Gtav actually takes a few scenes and scenarios from the film so its pretty cool to see the similarities. I love bank robbery and gangster films from the 90s. I may be a younger Michael.

Somebody call LSPD!!

You should also check out Collateral (2004) and The Dark Knight (2008) if you haven't already seen them.

Those two remind me a lot of Heat, which I totally agree with you about GTA taking cues from it and it being awesome!

Hmmm nice bike

Face/Off, starring Nicolas Cage and John Travolta. Really over-the-top and "out-there" action movie with a very weird premise that's the very definition of "suspension of belief" and "what's the point of that," but it's home to Nicolas Cage getting to really flesh out his acting skills.

And

occurs in the movie, too.

Ready Player One

It wasn't what I was expecting. Thought it would be different/better.

Death Wish

I was hoping for way more action. Still liked it though.

Infinity War

The ending had no impact on me.

Watched the Guest for a second time after seeing RedLetterMedia's interview with the movie's writer:

Love this film. Dan Stevens is such a charming creep and I love how he kind of manipulates everyone and gains their trust. I think it also did a better job than most with the whole 80's homage thing. It captured a lot of the fun elements from that era of film, but it also did enough to distinguish itself and not feel too tropey. Also the music's f*cking great.

"An epic set in post-WWII Japan and centered on an American former G.I. (Jared Leto) who joins the yakuza."

I don't think this movie was as bad as some people made it out to be. It's not the best, but it's not the worst either. I would recommend a watch.

I watched Laurence Anyways (2012) on Monday

d90ecab11e8433e16e687cbc5af7da95.jpg

An intense drama, well acted with some eye-poppingly vibrant cinematography!

Overly long, though (2h 50m)

I watched Fast Five (2011) yesterday.

fast-five-movie-poster-2011-1010696555.j

It had some A W E S O M E action, but it didn't make up for what was the rest of the movie.

That safe-sequence is iconic, though.

I liked it the first time I saw it but it's repeated so often on tv that I've grown to dislike it, same with F6

The Martian

MV5BMTc2MTQ3MDA1Nl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwODA3

I heard a few mixed reviews on this, but most were positive and the negatives were about the length, which I found to be just about right. The film was nicely paced and wasn't to schmaltzy or overtly, "f*ck yeah 'Murica", possibly due to the nice mix of cast (as in country of origin*), which is about right for NASA, and also involving the Chinese, gave it a little more balance.

Generally the film was fairly scientifically accurate, with some allowance for artistic license, but not to the point of being lacking in entertainment as some films can run the risk failing at of when aiming for 100% scientific accuracy. I mean the dust storm which set up the story doesn't happen as dust storms on Mars are no where near as strong as depicted, but again artistic license and however unlikely, a rare event like that could happen, so meh, you know... However, least it's not 2012, with its "the neutrinos are mutating" impossibility of a set up, which kills the film before it even starts.

Anywho I saw it on Council Telly, so it would likely have been slightly edited for time, and apparently there's an extended edition, which leads me to my verdict. Would I watch again? Yes, and I wouldn't mind checking out the extended edition to see what extra was missed.

*Spoiler alert Sean Bean is in this film and lives to the end

Watched Atomic Blonde (2017) today!

MV5BMjM5NDYzMzg5N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwOTM2

I liked the style and aesthetic of the movie. Very neon-y and atomic-y and all that.

I disliked the writing, story and characters. Dull and cliche a lot.

The action was the best I've seen in years, though.

I mean, one sequence here became one of my all-time favourite action sequences to ever be put on film.

Excited for a sequel to see what they can do.

But this one...

Watched The Tale of Princess Kaguya (2013) today.

It was crazy beautiful. Story-wise, also.

It does have pacing issues, but it grabbed my heart and squeezed.

Watched Deadpool 2 on Saturday. WAY better than the first one (and the first one was good), had many more laughs. Josh Brolin was an awesome Cable, and the end credits extras were absolute LULZ.

Watched The Straight Story (1999) today

l_35103_0166896_caa6692e.jpg

Was interested because it was supposed to be a David Lynch film that is NOT stressful, and it really wasn't.

It was very heartwarming thanks to the great writing and characters.

Plus, the acting was absolutely fantastic!

Death Wish reboot 2018

It was a much darker take on the classic  Charles Bronson original. Bruce Willis did a hell of job portraying the character, made him quite convincing - like a cross between John Wick and the Grim Reaper. Excellent movie and a must see.

Watched The Greatest Showman (2017) last week.

Image result for The Greatest Showman poster

Although it's cringey to the point of extreme (and the plot ain't that much), it has a whole lot of heart! The movie is pretty much pulsing with it's cinematography, editing and music.  A fun time.

Just watched Deadpool for the first time, and I wasn't impressed. I get the impression the movie was intended to be more of a comedy than an action flick, but I literally didn't laugh once. The humor just felt so juvenile, like it was intended for middle and high school students. I'm on the fence about whether I should go see the second one that's in theaters right now.

Nothing against anyone who enjoyed the film. My sense of humor has probably just been ruined from years of internet use.

I'll give you the first Raid, but I thought the second was a mess. Some amazing action scenes, sure, but it lacked the tightness and cohesion of the first.

Upgrade is rad as hell, and I only like it more when thinking about all the little things put into it. Logan Marshall Green is such an underrated actor it hurts, and the movie was a beautiful homage to 80s/90s cyberpunk flicks.
