I wish Lights Out was on the album. It sounds very old school Green Day, which I dearly miss.

Agreed! And I certainly can't wait for when they announce their world tour - I'm really hanging out to go see them!

UPDATE:

This is like double orgasm for me. Green Day will be playing on the Season Finale of Saturday Night Live - May 16th!

Being bought up on SNL all my life, this is just so awesome for me. Their last performance on SNL wasn't all that bad, but their '94 show was awesome.

They've already started whoring Know Your Enemy during commercials on MTV.

The same video clip I keep seeing is killing me with Billie doing that up-and-down hand motion on his guitar that makes it looks like he's not even playing it. I hate that.

I guess making a 3-CD album can be a trial-and-error process, but they should get their sh*t together before they go making it look solid on the website.

its not 3 cds its just one cd with the songs put into 3 chapters

Sorry, I meant "3 CD's worth".

Also, VH1 plans to leak the whole album for a week - from May 8th to 15th. Here's a source, and be sure to check it often as I'm sure they plan on giving out more Green Day goodies.

I wouldn't even say it's 3 CDs worth of material. I mean, 18 songs? nimrod. had 18 songs.

And I don't know if I'm going to listen to VH1 leak the album a mere couple of days before its release. I might just wait out those last few days and listen to the entire album when I download it from iTunes and then when I buy the CD itself later on that day. Besides, I plan on listening to their 7 albums (+ Shenanigans) in their entirety starting 8 days before the album comes out.

I think that album art looks pretty kool. I just hope this album isn't so political, know what I mean?

Like your Rambo sig, NJN. Rambo the first movie is one of my favorites. Brian Dennehy for the win.

On topic, I was not a fan, but hey, I was taping the PayPerView in 1994 of Woodstock 3 more days....

As evidenced on my YouTube channel. I have their performance as well, recorded virtually all of it, but missed the over night rebroadcast of missed daytime segments. Woodstock Overnight, as they called it.

I hear the track Know Your Enemy as the oft played single. I like it to a degree, but there's no doubt it is flawed. One factor is repetition, and always has been, better to keep a song good and short rather then repeat musical structures too long, whether it's chorus or the hook, etc.

After looking through all of the lyrics for the new songs, Know Your Enemy is definitely the only song where the lyrics get repetitive. But I can understand why they chose it as the first single. It's catchy, it's straightforward, etc. just like the American Idiot single was when it was first released.

What I'm trying to figure out is what will be the 2nd single. I have a feeling that Last Night On Earth will be released as a single. It's like the band's first love ballad.

That's a long f*cking way away...but it better be worthit.

Two weeks til the album comes out, one til the VH1 Leak.

Anyone here going to listen to the leak? I, for one, will be listening to nothing but GD (and have been) up until the 15th - where I will catch a bus straight from school to the shops, and buy that album.

Hard.

Hard.

If somebody converts the "leak" into MP3 form (which I'm sure will happen - makes me wonder why they're even letting them "leak" it), then I will listen to it on my f*cking iPod. I'll still buy the album the week after (I've already pre-ordered it on iTunes) and I'm still going to get a physical copy as well.

The 2nd b-side to Know Your Enemy (entitled "Hearts Collide") has finally made its way out. If you search hard enough I'm sure you'll find it. YouTube apparently keeps taking it down. I personally love it. It's probably the best love song they've written thus far, and it's got a really upbeat feel to it. And it feels even more retro than their Foxboro Hot Tubs project. Like a mix between punk rock and the Beach Boys.

So, Know Your Enemy helps to channel your anger, Lights Out can get you excited or pumped up, and Hearts Collide can make you feel happy or make you appreciate the love you share with somebody even more. Sounds like a complete package to me.

And tomorrow radio stations across the US will be playing 8 songs from the album. The 8 songs will be:

-Know Your Enemy

-21 Guns

-21st Century Breakdown

-Before The Lobotomy

-East Jesus Nowhere

-Restless Heart Syndrome

-American Eulogy

Only a matter of time until they're leaked onto the net tomorrow. The unreleased songs, that is.

The Kaiser Chiefs will be opening for Green Day from July 27th to August 7th. And all of the ticket sale dates for the US have been announced. My case would be May 15th (New York City, July 27th).

Rolling Stone gave the album a 4.5/5:

http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/album/...09821/21st_cent

Pretty good!

Rolling Stone are a f*cking joke.

True, but they gave Bob Dylan's new album four stars. And RS would give Bob Dylan recording himself taking a sh*t four stars. That has to be saying something.

Seriously, if you rely on critics or other people to tell you what's good or bad, then you need a firm kick in the nuts. I'm expecting it to get mostly mediocre reviews. Not that the music will be bad, but most of the people who applauded American Idiot won't feel that it's up to par, when it already sounds 100 times better. I can understand if nearly every critic was giving the album rave reviews, then it would at least warrant a listen. But for the most part, you be the judge, don't let other people decide for you whether or not something is good.

I would've given that new Dylan album a f*cking 2 out of 5. It's nowhere near as good as his old stuff in my opinion, and you can barely understand a word that comes out of his mouth. But of course, all the major music publications will kiss his ass, no matter how awful they think the album is.
