GTAace
I think that the customization in SA would be fine if it was upgraded a little bit I don't think making a whole new character for yourself needs to be done but tweaking the appearance a little while keeping the same personality is what needs to be in the next game. asai
This is a discussion forum and there are no wrong or right ideas, it is the community getting together to hash out some ideas we all have for the game series we all love. Save your flames for an appropriate time this is not one though . There are some really great ideas here in this forum. I am also with the custom characters guys, i am also with the guys that don't really want to follow someone elses story line. I would prefer to be able to make up my own character, develop my own character skills etc, and choose my own path in the game. I would like to start with empty suitcases and accumulate my own baggage derived from the choices i make in game. I think it would be cool as the character develops that at a point in the game you can save your mission set including how you did it for someone else to load and try from the beginning to the point where the person saved the mission set. I envision sharing of mission sets between players as a here try this kind of thing. As a player i spend considerable time developing my skill in the game, being able to put a target down with 3 or 4 rounds, and i really really hate it when the game requires me to play stupid for the sake of a story line. For example in SA the mission where you fly around the cargo ship with the mini gun, there are 2 points of contention i have 1) If i have the skills to kill the sam missle guy then i should be allowed, no more should the event be scripted as X=Y=Z so that the helo gets shot down. 2) The simple fact that if the only thing keeping your pistol in your pants is the elastic waist band of your boxer shorts YOU ARE AN IDIOT, they make some real nice tactical gear avaliable at any Army/Navy store that would work well even if it is a bit outdated. Here is one from GTA4 fortunatly due to the video editor i was able to get this clip https://tv.rockstargames.com/videos/view/id/DAD622927F88393C. No it was not a random event i can do this any time i choose. In GTA4 i would never in a million years rob a bank with the McCreary brothers, for that matter there are not to many bad guys in GTA4 i consider to be smart enough to have stayed out of jail as long as they have, seriously those guys were idiots. Truth be told i would have preffered to take them out and take over thier rackets rather than work with or even worse work for. That is what i mean when i say i would like to create my own story line instead of lackey i will be boss if my skills in the game are good enough. It is crime after all and might does make right, so the propper application of force, applied to the right people at the moment of your choosing should be open to the player so the question really becomes a matter of when do you pull your coup. Just because by tradition the R* series has always revolved around a set story line is no reason not to explore some new ideas, i mean seriously guys it is R* if any game company can do it and do it well it would be them. I just think that there is room for the game to expand from X=Y=Z scripting of events to something a bit more random based on the players skills and choices. Mister Pink
I know, how about full charachter customisation after 100%? That might work. In any case, if R* wants to fill the world with a large number of unique NPCs, they'll have to build an engine that can support models with slide bars for a bunch of parameters. That would allow a random NPC to actually be random. Once that's in place, allowing player to customize the character wouldn't be difficult. The only question would be how to do it if at all. Player can be allowed to chose a standard character for which story is written or create own and accept that the story would be a little odd at places. Or, like you said, it could be a 100% thing. Finally, there could be a place in the game world which allows you to do plastic surgery. Basically, I see the point some people make about fixed character working better for the story, so customization should be something optional rather than forced on you. Though, to be honest, I like the way SR2 handled it. They simply refused to take it seriously. "You look different. Did you get a haircut?" Yeah that can work. My main concern was the fact that people want custom characters for the actual storyline, a custom character that you can create after completing the story is almost the same as using a mod which changes your characters appearance, it doesn't change the story, like if the developers actually implemented " custom characters " into the game would. Yeah, I think I full charachter customisation after 100% will give something for us to all really look forward too. I think it will be the ultimate reward. Also, people that complained about GTA IV's replay-ability would really have something to look forward too. Then you could really get into the role-playing sh*t. I like to pretend I'm a hitman or I can customise myself to be some sort of freaky serial killer that lurks at night. (I have problems, I know) Anyway, I'd really think it would be stupid to customise your charachter during the storyline because I could picture some persons player looking like a twat having a green mohawk and pink shorts talking to some mafia Don in an intense scene. Don't think so.. I even thought it looked stupid when my mates had a ridiculous looking CJ where there's a serious part in the storyline. It ruins the suspense and intensity of certain scene's when your charachter looks like a rent boy clown. RUBBΣR░J♢HNNY (スオッ)

A 100% reward would harm no one and would be a cool adition, even if it is only limited. U R B A N I T A S
Bul1etSp0nge
Creating your own character works great in a game like Saints Row because its not a very serious game. But in GTA the story itself has always been serious and has had a lot of detail(at least since vice city). If GTA 5 lets you make your own character I'd rather wait for the bext saints row. But I think lots of character customization would be great for online.
