Can not toggle run

I just switched to the Xbox 360 controller for Windows and I can not firgure out how to always run. I can run as long as I keep pressing the "A" button over and over, but I want to just always run without having to continously press a button. It is a real pain because I can't run and hit other buttons at the same time. As soon as stop mashing the "A" button and try to jump or something my speed slows down immediately. Am I doing something wrong or is that just how it works with this controller?

 

With the keyboard and my old controller I could toggle run on and just run everywhere. I have tried toggling it on with the keyboard and then using the xbox controller but it turns it off immediately.

 

I have read the instructions that come with the game, looked at the controler configuration in the options menu, and searched the internet and come up with nothing, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
