Slork
Hey guys, sorry if that has been posted before, but when I run the GTA4 in singleplayer, it runs just fine. When I try to play multiplayer, the game just lags horrible and locks up and says I have been disconnected because my computer is running too slowly..this is on the loading screen even, not even when the game starts, but when I'm at the lobby. I turned my graphics way down and it does the exact same thing no matter what graphic settings. My system is Windows XP Home, AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 5200+ 2.4ghz OC'd to 2.6ghz, 2gb RAM, Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS 640mb. My monitor is a 19" Samsung, default res is 1440x900. I would try to get the latest graphics drivers but they cause Left 4 Dead to lag horribly when I play it. I will download them and try them out to see, but I don't see that being the problem. Please help. Thanks!
Slork
Ok, I just tried the newest Nvidia drivers and they in fact did not help at all.
CharmingCharlie
The lag you are experiencing in multiplayer has nothing to do with your PC or how fast it is. This sounds to me as if your internet connection isn't good enough. There are a whole range of reasons why your internet speed may not be good enough. Sometimes it is out of your hands you may be connected to a game that is being hosted half way around the world and your ping times will be horrendous. Unfortunately there is very little you can do except ensure you are not using your internet connection for anything else ie downloading is a BIG no no when it comes to playing online games. It would also be prudent to make sure you don't game during times your ISP may be busy. It is also wise to pay attention to the strength of connection symbols in gfwl you will see them as 3 bars next to the game you want to join in either green, yellow and red. Obviously 3 green bars means you have a good connection to that game, 3 yellow bars and you will start to experience lag and 3 red bars means you will be lucky to stay connected to the game. Slork
Well, my internet is just fine, my bro plays his GTA4 on PC just fine with no problems online and he is in the other room. As far as the servers with good ping and what not, I don't see where there is a list of servers to chose from. I think it's because I'm using quick match? I will look into it but if I can't find it, I'll post it. Thanks.
CharmingCharlie
How is your computer connected to the router is it wired or wireless ? If it's wireless that could be the problem. Instead of choosing quick match from the phone I have found it best to choose custom match. This takes you to a lobby and you can pick and choose what games you join if any are available :- If you look at that cut down screenshot you can see the lobby in action, there are two games available for me to join and both have 3 green bars which means the connection should be good.
