networkn
Hi There! I have a brand new I7 920 system running a P6T Deluxe, with 6GB Memory and a4870x2 video card. I am running vista 32 and running catalyst 9.1 drivers. It's a brand new system, but other than the other game I am playing right now which is FEAR2 Demo (which is fine) I haven't had a chance to test stability in other games. Basically randomly I am getting gtaiv.exe has encountered an error and will close. App logs for Windows show a 1000 error, GTAIV.exe in module ATIUMDAG.dll I can play 10-15 minutes if I am lucky. I have turned of clip capture and ATI AI. I have limited my video memory usage in the control panel of GTA to be using 888mb of 1010MB. Before this it was crashing with out of memory. I am running 1900x1200. Anyone else noticing how SLOOW it is it load save's in GTA? I have a pretty damn fast machine and loading a save takes forever. I have a x64 Windows 7 alternative OS on the same machine, is it worth trying to load on this?
Zinthar
Hey, I'm having the exact same problem, and only with GTA:IV, so don't jump to the conclusion that you have an overall system problem -- if you've built your system properly and have updated drivers, it's quite likely that you'll not have issues with other 3D apps. I posted a very detailed description in this Patch 2 thread along with what I've tried: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...entry1058953249
chngdman
This is a big issue with 4800 series and ATi drivers right now, it affects different people differently, and ATi is not being vocal about it at all (they never are, they deny everything). You just built this PC? I don't want to hit you with the "Just because it worked when you turned it on the first time doesn't mean it is properly configured to do what your components need done" speech, but just because it worked when you turned it on the first time doesn't mean it is properly configured to do what your components need done. One thing I've seen suggested around vgaforum and ati game is to up your ram voltages (especially with as many bays as you must be using to support 6GB). The file itself may just be corrupted as well. You have a SINGLE GFX card with dual GPUs, right? Not Crossfire'd two cards? These have issues, big ones, and again, ATi ain't talking. And they affect different people for different games. I'd really fine-tooth the bios settings and get with people to make sure your machine is right once you are sure that driver file is not corrupt. Also, drop your ram speed to half speed, if that doesn't help, drop it to 266, does it help? If it does, you confirm with me this is ATi using sh*t memory or something, unsure yet. This last part is a long shot, but it solved my problems to drop my DDR2 533mhz to 266mhz (133 each) which costed me frames up until Patch 2. I blame ATi. Canada, actually, as it is a Sapphire Tech card. My mobo is pretty cheap though and pretty much maxed out as far as it can go as well. I fixed the problem by simply grabbing a 8.12 atiumdag.dll file and copying over the top of my existing version in c:\windows\system32 No crashes in GTA 4 in 3 hours. Still running 9.1 drivers, just 1 file backreved!

Zinthar
networkn, Great job, this fix seems to have worked for me as well -- I played for 2 hours last night with no crash, whereas previously I would not get past 30 mins. In my case, though, changing the atiumdag.dll file was more complicated than simply copying it into the correct C:/Windows/System32 folder, as Vista x64 denied me permission to do so, even in safe mode. I fixed this by unpacking the installers for both the 8.12 hotfix and the 9.1 Catalysts, and then copying the 8.12 hotfix version of atiumdag.dl_ over the same file in the 9.1 folder, and then re-installing my 9.1 drivers from there. I also used bartekxyz's Ultimate Graphic Tweak from the PC version and now run the game maxed out, mostly very smooth with >50 fps average, and it's absolutely beautiful. CarMage
It's working for me too - 3 hours with no crash where it used to crash after 10 minutes! Thanks alot and realy a great job. One strange thing though - now the game slows down every once in a while but after that it's a smooth ride.

chngdman
Nice, glad you guys found a fix, but allow me to point out that essentially, that file is essentially your core 3D driver. So, technically, it was the same as going back to 8.12. Just for future users who find cat 9.1 isnt stable for them (most stable I've had so far, go figure )

kn00tcn
8.12 or 8.12 multicore hotfix dll? can you just put it in the game folder instead? i will test sometime, i consistently crash after 30-40min on high textures, low ended up crashing at 15-20min with weird pop-ins, mentioned in another thread HERE
