GtaHitmanStrikesBack
This thing will be huge when it is built but do you think it will reach 1,400 m (4,593 ft) that's nearly twice the height of the Burj Dubai. Link to Nakheel tower page Link to Burj Dubai page The Burj Dubai looks amazing to do a wing suit base jump from. But sadly you cant do one legally because in Dubai its seen as a terrorist threat. Only two guys have managed to jump without being caught a Brit and a Frenchman but the french guy tried another time but got got lol and the guy he was doing the jump with got caught as soon as he landed here's a link to the video of the guys jumping from it

Jay
Ridiculous. This is urban planning masturbation. It's like these Emirates have self esteem issues that can only be rectified by planting huge f*ckoff "check this sh*t out how cool are we" monuments in the sand. Yeah that's right you oil barons I see right through you.
26580
I agree. It won't be very long before Dubai runs out of oil. The boom'll be over and once again all that will be left is ruins in the desert. It's happened before and it'll happen again... One Saudi Arabian said: "My grandfather rode on a camel, I ride in a car and my grandson will ride on a camel". Why do you think they're building all these structures? They know they can't live off of oil forever, so they're striving to become a tourism resort/country/city thingy. Some places live solely on tourism, and that's what they're trying to achieve. And if you ask me, they'll be really successful at it.

Flaw in that reasoning: ... Must rely on tourism when oil runs out... ... Tourism relies on oil to move people around the world (jet fuel and such)... Heh. They should invest in some good cameras to take lots of pictures to show people what they look like.

Before there was coal and before there was diesel... ...there was wind. In addition oil does exist outside of the middle east. It just seems likely they'll deplete their resources first because they've got nothing else to sell... yet. manofpeace
I wonder if you spat off the top would it kill someone below No, because of the law of Terminal Velocity. Or, it might come back up and hit you in the face. Buildings that big alter the wind and make it go up and over the structure. It's been proven with pennies on the Empire State Building. One thing I'd be worried about is if it won't just topple over from the intense winds up there and the possibility of some crazy guy throwing a few jets at it. 860
the nahkeel tower looks actually quite boring. the burj dubai looks silvery blue and futuristic = non-boring. i think the´ll change alot of things in the nahkeel tower, including (maybe) the boring looks. Mike Tequeli
I think the fact that it is a kilometer and a half tall makes up for any potential boring design. I love sh*t like this, a little healthy competition leads to some architectural feats, as long as sh*tty municipal governments don't get in the way like they do in North America and Europe. Tommy Dickfingers
These guys in Dubai are crazy bastards. It wouldn't surprise me if this tower doesn't even get finished as they will run out of money. They are also planning to build a huge, in fact, MEGA huge theme park, rumoured to be the same size as the city of Birmingham in England. I appreciate their engineering audacity, but seriously, they can't keep this up, surely!? Edited February 12, 2009 by smaisey
Otter
I find it hilarious that some people are actually offended by architecture. I know where I won't be bragging about my igloo this year...
