MindCorrupt
I'd imagine that the Californias fire fighting budget shadows victorian (possibly even the australian) budget. We get some pretty bad fires in the west but we still rent waterbombers at huge prices instead of buying them outright. Unfortunately it takes a tragedy like this before the politicians stop whinging at eachother and get off their arse and spend some money so were better prepared in the future. beavis
Here, there's actually reserve money for when things go really bad. Also, many firefighters from all over California rally at certain fires to help combat the flames. At times. I've heard that the fighters pull off 48 hour shifts to help ease the fires. Sadly, most of these fires are started by a common mistake.
Stefan.
guy0307: More people were killed trying to leave; the fires are faster than most cars at low speed, so it was very easy for them to be killed. At least 200 dead now, I think. f*ck. I, myself, don't know anyone personally who was affected by the bushfires, but a bloke in my Politics class spent Sunday at Mounth Beauty working or something, and he was saying how on the way back they almost had to drive back it was so bad. Eddie280
Death toll is 173, =[ Gosh, through no fault of your own, your name seems highly inaproppriate. I have to say I'm appaled that a well developed nation can suffer so badly from such a natural disaster and apparently have few protocols in place. The same lack of preperation was shown by the U.S.A after Hurricane Katrina. It just goes to show that nothing seems to able to stand in the way of nature. Shaunr
Now with those big fires, like the one this guys explaining, don't you think God ever has to piss? If he can do anything I'm sure he could pee out a fire.

darthYENIK
sh*t, this is f*cking nuts. Living in California, I couldn't imagine 200 people dying in a wild fire. Hopefully they can get it extinguished, and get some plan together to make sure this doesn't happen again.
SaintJimmy
F*cks sake, I read that apparently the death toll might rise into the thousands. This is really really sad.
Typhus
This is pretty bad. Why anyone would start a fire like this is beyond me.
RibbuDibbuDouchu
Who would build a house out of wood, in a bush, in a hot country? Seriously! This is just a wake up call for Australians to stop being dumb.
Trows
Who would build a house out of wood, in a bush, in a hot country? Seriously! This is just a wake up call for Australians to stop being dumb. Yep, because a few bricks are going to stop a towering inferno moving at 100km/h. No dough this post will get questions and and maybe even some fighting.

GTA3Freak-2001
What's incredible is the money Australians have donated, there was a radio donation thing nationwide which today alone managed to raise just over 2 million bucks!

Stefan.
I donated $6 through buying two sausages and a drink. Michael: Shut the f*ck up, moron. The fact that houses are made out of wood has nothing to do with sh*t. Yeah, it's not going to help, but it's not like it's a matter of life and death. Also, technically you're Australian yourself, so perhaps you, yourself, should start waking up and stop acting so f*cking moronic.
Trows
The fact that f*cking fox news can take this, and turn it into fear mongering f*cking disgusts me. No dough this post will get questions and and maybe even some fighting.

Rhoda
What a surprise that Fox have seen something that could kill hundreds and turn it into a terrorist implication tool.
SaintJimmy
I mean Christ that's so inconsiderate. That's actually really f*cking offensive. "terrorism experts".... What the f*ck would they know about expert?
Rhoda
I don't know how you can consider the position of a terrorist anywhere near "expert". Surely "expert" suggests positivity? Fox always seem to look too hard for something that isn't there.
Stefan.
Yeah, this was totally uncalled for and unecessary. This is a natural disaster, nothing to do with terrorism.
tw!tch
yeah that is pretty f*cking disgusting. but atleast the donations are rolling in steadily for them . my school's doing a fund raiser for it tomorrow as well edit: channel 10 just counted the toll at 181. and that a 40 year old is in custody for the lighting of one of the fires Edited February 10, 2009 by tw!tch

SaintJimmy
Wow. I'm not even angry. I'm amazed. I no longer have any faith in humanity. Everything I hold dear to me, and once believed in, has now been put into question.
Stefan.
That is why how I have become an Agnostic. Well, not really that, but that just provides more evidence as to why I have many doubts about religion nowadays. Although, I'd rather not let religion get involved with these bushfires, in whatever way possible, apart from saying "God bless all those affected by the fires".
