Blind Joe Death
I thought I would create this topic for us to discuss the music of 2009. Any upcoming albums that you're excited about can be discussed in here along with your opinions and ratings of albums released this year. So to kick things off, what's everybody's hype list? Meaning the albums you're most looking forward to this year. I'm honestly not aware of many releases this year but from what I've read/heard 'Om' and 'Clutch' may be releasing new albums. 'The Bakerton Group' will be releasing a new album on February 17th and will be titled 'El Rojo'. Looking forward to DOOM's new album as well. Blind Joe Death
I've heard nothing but good things about Animal Collective's newest album. It will be a likely contender for album of the year. Yeah, there's no doubt it'll be mentioned as album of the year on many websites at the end of the year (especially pitchfork, hah). It is a great album though, I'm loving it. I'd be disappointed if stays as my favourite of the year though. I honestly think both Feels and Strawberry Jam were better. Vanilla Shake
21st Century Breakdown by Green Day, coming in May. Supposedly taking a lot of influence from The Beatles. I know there are a lot of Green Day haters here, but I'm looking forward to the album. TC718 / <629 / CF5

Blind Joe Death
John Frusciante released a new album last month titled 'The Empyrean'. I'm giving it a listen as I type. I'm extremely impressed, so far anyway.
makeshyft
Alice in Chains. First studio album since '95. William DuVall on vocals. It's not the same. Some changes in vocalist have worked, Iron Maiden being a notable example. However, Layne's style was such a crucial element of the band's overall sound. fox09
Richie Kotzen's Wilson Hawk was just released a few weeks ago. It kinda sounds like a 70's soul album. Blew my face off the first time I listened to it, but then again, I have a hard-on for pretty much anything Richie breathes on.

mark-2007
John Frusciante released a new album last month titled 'The Empyrean'. I'm giving it a listen as I type. I'm extremely impressed, so far anyway. Class. Been meaning to buy this and another of his albums. Loved Curtains for the most part, and Shadows Collide With people is a real grower, wasn't too keen on it first time round but it's really good stuff now.
