Longship
I have a computer with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ (2 CPUs), ~2.6GHz and an NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GS. I can play the game, although everything around Nico moves in a twitching way, which can be a bit annoying. What should I invest in to make the game run better, a new graphics card or a new CPU? noid449
if you can afford both .. then it maybe time for a complete pc upgrade.. if your willing to do that for one game all and well. if not id say gfx card, if you are looking to upgrade your cpu think about motherboard and ram ...ie complete system im not sure if just one upgrade will do as i have seen some i7`s here not run it with heafty gfx cards also installed. if you are willing to spend a fair amount id consider a complete system upgrade that way you wont be left with a bottleneck by a certain component, hope that helped you decide. sammclean23
hi, I would reccommend a new CPU I am currently using AMD 64 X2 4200 which is lower spec thans yours which you mentioned. (im using 2 x 7950 gt) I recommend the new CPU because less CPU intensive games (far cry 2) do run perfectly top settings which proves graphics power is ample. I am upgrading to AMDs phenom 2 or slightly cheaper phenom 9950 sorry about the unclear description here. Hope it helps a bit

Longship
Thanks everyone! I'm considering NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT. Would it do the trick?
ron123
New rig is the answer for GTAIV, with one new GPU or CPU, you will have a bottleneck of the second GPU or CPU. you need quad with non stock air cooler + modern gaming GPU, thg min GPU that I can advice is the HD4850. ron123
To noid449 : 9800GX2 in quad SLI is the worst GPUs power per money that you can buy, why the hell you have it with your super rig, you can upgrade to a singl 285GTX and to have better GPU force, another question: what CPU speed you have with your water cooler, I maybe buy this cooling myself. noid449
yeah well they run ok i know the vram is low but i havent had any probs as far as the cards go i didnt pay full price for the two so im happy thanks for the worst ever comment btw :| if you want to sell my cards and get me a high end nvidia replacement then go ahead i can get the chip down to 12-20 idle and never goes above 45 maxxed i have a custom built thermaltake/modded system with two rads both 120mm only at stock speed so far just ironing out some issues and finding a stable platform to work with as for the budget . i mean how much is your price area for new graphics card and where do you live Edited February 7, 2009 by noid449
emcax24
you should take whatever money you were gonna use to upgrade your computer and buy an xbox. thats the only way you're gonna justify spending $300-500 just to play this game at a decent framerate. your computer is good, this game is the problem. well your video card kinda sucks too. i would say just get a new video card, but that sh*t aint gonna help much, pr i could say you need a new cpu, but that sh*t aint gonna help much either. getting a whole new system might help some. but after you buy your new mobo, new ram, new video card, and new processor. are you gonna feel happy that you can finally play 1 game at a decent framerate, when your old computer could play all the other games except that one with a decent framerate?
