BrooklynKid
Hi. I have come to the conclusion that I am the only person getting such low FPS on a good computer. My computer: Quad Core Q Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz 4.00 GB 32-Bit Vista 2x GeForce 8800GT 320GB Memory Everybody near my specs get a good 45-50 FPS while I get 25-30 FPS. Any suggestions please, what specs should I run the game at, anything I need to tweak? Thank You. Edit 1: Conclusion: From all the replies and answers on how to fix my problem, I have done two thing's, I have drooped the level of resolution significantly to increase performance and I have used the "Tweak 1" which can be found on this post, http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=386262 . After doing so, I now have 37.94 FPS. Thank You for all the replies guys. If anybody has more way's to increase FPS, please do tell. ZAZ
Hi. I have come to the conclusion that I am the only person getting such low FPS on a good computer. My computer: Quad Core Q Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz 4.00 GB 32-Bit Vista Dual 8800 GT 320GB Memory Everybody near my specs get a good 45-50 FPS while I get 25-30 FPS. Any suggestions please, what specs should I run the game at, anything I need to tweak? Thank You. good computer ? not very much. whats your grafic?Dual 8800 GT? whats that? how much grafic memory ? i playing with Athlon64 +6000, grafic: geforce 8800 GTS 512mb (one year old ) have 33fps well ic an play it well but only with medium texturing CLEO MODS CLEO Script Tutorial
emcax24
actually his computer is better than yours. sh*t my computer is better than yours and yet we both get sh*tty framerates in comparison. conclusion? this game is badly ported. he has 4 cores, you have 2, he has 2x320mb video memory you only have 512. 4cores at 2.4ghz plus 640mb vram. vs your 2cores at 3ghz and 512mb of vram. vs my 2 cores at 3ghz and 512mb vram. The_Cheese_Man
By dual 8800GT do you have 2 8800GT cards in SLI? Have you tried disabling one of them? What settings do you run them on? Did you update your graphics drivers?

emcax24
no you cant, but its a good indication, well in most games where video memory is actually used. the only time my video memory goes over 70% is with textures on high, and to do that i have to use -nomemrestrict. with nomemrestrict and all settings maxed out my gpu memory reading is over 950mb i use a plugin to check my videocard temps while in game. it shows the gpu useage, temps, and memory. gpu% never goes over %50 btw. no matter whats on the screen. this game doesnt really use your video card for anything except processing textures it seems. you would think a game made in 2008 would want to use my gpu instead of offloading all the work to the processor. AKA emulation. the only conclusion i can draw is that this game isnt ported but rather emulating a xbox. even with everything maxed out it still runs exactly the same as it does with everything on low. well not exactly, but just about. you would think that the difference between everything maxed out over the limit, and everything on low with no sound in safemode. would be more than a mere 6 frames per second. but thats how it goes. i max it out run a benchmark and get 23fps i lower it all and get 28fps. chngdman
Is that a Retail or OEM intel? I ask because I wonder about your cooling (even at idle time) and whether you have the included retail fan or bought a fan seperate etc - now This is a long shot in your case, but I thought it important to consider. Is it at all possible all those other people have clip capture disabled and you don't, or that you have things running in the background that they don't? Or that your settings are different than theirs?

I do know that AMD has atleast two more versions of my processor. 65 Watt version and a 90 something watt and so on with few small differences. I also wonder if some people took that into consideration when matching with their motherboards. Well never the less I think you are on the right path. sebastian1802
Some times dual cores get higher fps then quad. Why It happen? Because Gta game engine use really only 3 cores. So its easy to calculate quad core 2.2ghz vs dual core 3ghz 4x2200mhz=8800 Only 3 cores =6600 Bandwitch is divided by numbers of cores/3 2x3000mhz=6000 Gta use full 2 cores with max bandwitch (mtu) Overall x2 give more

gamevirus01
try download driver 181.22 WHQL...this was a release suppose to be for Mirrors Edge but it has been proven that you will get an increase frame rate in GTA 4 http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=393669

I got a q6600 and put it into a cheap intel board (stock cooler) that was in an equally cheap case and still got 15-20 fps with my 9800GT. Put in a new MB (allowing 33% boost via Overclocking) and case and Artic cooler and now I'm 45-55 fps and can feel cool air coming out of my case, all for about 2 bills. I'm sure my other games kick ass, but I'm not playing them lately
