Today I purchased Grand Theft Auto: IV for PC. Had a few issues when installing and starting the game, but I've fixed them all now.

 

Anyway, I've already bet the story missions on the PS3 version so I can't be bothered to do it all again on the PC version. I downloaded a game save from this GTAForums topic.

 

I opened the readme included with one of the save games and it stated I need to use something called xLiveless (I think thats what its called). I downloaded xLive and I extracted the files inlcuded with the xLive archive into my GTA:IV directory which is located at C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV

 

I placed my downloaded gamesave into my savegames folder which can be found at:

C:\Documents and Settings\My Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV

 

So here's the problem, I started GTA:IV up using the "LaunchGTAIV.exe" file, and when it came to the starting menu it said "Start Game". I'm sure it should say "Load Game" at the side or something. Anyways, I click Start Game and the game begins from the beginning (the first mission)

 

When I spawn in the car at the start of the game, I press ESC and go into the load menu. I click load game but it says something along the lines of "No save games present"

 

I don't know what I've done wrong, and I've repeated the savegame installation process many times.

Playing GTA IV PC in officell manner needs to install the patch2 and with connection to your xlive account.

So the game synchronize the game procress which is stored at xlive with the savegames in the Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV

Than you should also be able to play multiplayer

If there is a failure or a change with your xlive profile the game start as new.

 

The xlive.dll of listeners XLIVE-Less bypasses the connection and synchronisation to your xlive account

and let the game store the savegames at MyDocuments\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames

 

It needs to have the XLIVE-Less version-0.94 for the game with installed patch2

 

I also tried a downloaded savegame but without success

dont know why, maybe the savegames includes any infos of the current pc

To put original savegames of Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV, made without XLIVE-Less

to MyDocuments\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames and load it with XLIVE-Less, works.

and it worked.

well, I just tried it also and could load successful the savegame "Payback"
