Tripfist
Hey guys, I'm trying to get 5.1/7.1 surround sound setup through my receiver/laptop. I have my laptop set to S/PDIF output and have the proper cabling being sent to my receiver. I test the sound out in Vista 64 Ultimate, comes out fine through all my speakers. When I start GTA4, the only selections I get are headphones and speakers. The speaker output is only stereo. I thought that this game supported surround sound but I'm not sure why the options are not present. Surround sound works fine in other games. Anyone have any tips or tricks to get around this issue? elBATCHo
im almost certain its cause you have a laptop. do you have one of those Audigy sound cards? if not, those have all the hookups for surround sound. i think the laptop doesnt see surround sound cause even tho you have the adapter and receiver, its still going thru the headphone jack. ^^ NVM. you said audio still works in vista. maybe its just the game that doesnt see the surrround then Edited February 9, 2009 by elBATCHo
logitechdog
configure the speaker setup in your control panel "sound" to the speakers you want... then it should show up the other options... if you got no centre speaker you will lose audio from that place, which voices are sent to it... think if you change from side to rear, one of them might work.... if you done that then I don't know what the problem is, but you say you have no other options so the speakers must be still in stero... Tripfist
Yeah, I believe since I have the output as pure digital output, there is no speaker setup through the sound options. The output relies on a receiver to process whatever the stream is encoded in (Dolby Digital, DTS Audio, etc). My receiver is able to process those codecs, I just dont think GTA4 is outputing in a Surround/Dobly format. When I test inside Vista, its able to detect Dolbly formats with no problem and process them in full 5.1 (FL, FR, C, SR, SL, SB). I've tried the -fullspecaudio line in the commandline.txt file. Doesn't seem to have any effect. Anyone know if this game supports Dolby sound or at least know of a way to force the game into outputing the sound in 5.1? Is there a commandline command that you can preset surround side/rear?
