Benjimino234
There's a line of gaming to get away, to relax and a passion for it. I play to get away, It's my only escape. Also for entertainment and fun. And at moments the virtual world of a game is much better than the world outside. People I know who don't play games, sport or anything to relax. Just grow up to be working/studying all the time and become very stressed. Just think "Do I want to start on the next page of this? Or do I want to do some me-time on live or relax with music? For just 30 minutes or an hour?" Some people do listen to the first voice, but you'll force yourself to and feels like a chore. But I go "Okay finish this crap, then I'll relax with some games" or the other way of finishing a session of gaming and feeling relaxed and focus, now let's do this paper yay! So why do you play games??

Drag_Drift
Because of these reasons. Not all at the same time, though. -I'm tired and I need to relax. -There's no one to talk to on the phone. -My friends are busy, or asleep. -New game. -I miss the game. -GTAF has a slow day. Benjimino234
Cool, good to hear. I have this exact same topic on another site, and yeah the answers are nearly the same...
Otter
Because I can't sing or dance. Then what kinda f*ckin' scotsman are you? I play for shear enjoyment. I don't think there's much escapism involved, beyond the realms of daydreaming, anyhow.

Slamman
Since I've been out of work, I delved into next generation PS gaming... I love it for the same reasons but there's no escaping the fact it can not be a solution as alternative to the real world. As much fun as it is to manipulate EVERYTHING in the virtual 3D world, the real value is in normal everyday life. I find it hard to deal with because life seemed much easier when I was a kid, gaming was very new and simple, and the attraction wasn't so deep as it is with the new tech. I mean, people played games outside in the neighborhood, we'd go over and listen to records and tapes at other kids' houses...ride bikes all over the place. When you're hooked on movies and gaming, it becomes too much attraction time dedicated to a screen...couple the laptop and computer and TV into that equation as well!! PacMaan
because apparently its more socially acceptable to run around a vitual world blowing peoples heads off with an assault rifle, than it is to do the same down my local high street. Creed Bratton
Once you become a gamer there is no going back. I play for fun. I'm a movie guy. Which means I like a good story. And some of the games today have better stories then the movies. And I can control the protagonist. Also free roam games are fun because they give you freedom you could never have in real life. For example, you always wanted to be a gunslinger in the west then play Gun (or the upcoming Red Dead Redemption). You always wanted to be a gangster, play any GTA game. Games based on movies like Scarface give you the ability to control your favorite movie character. Or, in Oblivion you can be a knight in shiny armor, or a Barbarian, or wizard, anything you like. And in FPS, you can pwn people with your aiming skills. The possibilities are endless. That's why I love games. But never ever should one abandon real life over gaming. That's why I tend to go out a lot when I have the time. Mostly during summer, cause in the winter, like now, its always raining and boring... Games are new movies. Trust me on that. Just like movies replaced theaters... Edited February 8, 2009 by GTAvanja
