brOkeRxBoYxLC
i expected gta 4 to be almost identical to NYC, and it almost is. but now i realize it aint so close. the lighting of some areas are always dark, the streets of algonquin sometimes is completely empty, not many people in star junction, missing bridges, no STATEN ISLAND, and a few more things. i know it sounds like i hate gta bc im bashing it, but its one of my favv games. so im just tellin the truth... Hydro_PT
Remember: that is Liberty City, not NYC. Rockstar wanted to create a "real" environment, but that could be used on a game. If they had recreated the entire NYC... well it wouldn't fit on the game lol. I don't mind, the city is amazing, pretty detailed but with its own distinctive features. Agree, its not NYC, its LC, but still amazing city. And the cars are damn detailed, handles like real vehicles. Only bad thing on them is when you use handbrake, the car slides an about mile... even in slow speeds. But, yea, its amazing game, thanks R* The Story is the best i been seen in any game, Niko Bellic is damn interesting charchter.
TonyClifton
Have to agree about Niko being an interesting character. I thought C.J. was good (and he still is), but Niko has been a terrific character to play. "I am glad it is not my car"
Magic_Al
New York City is about 50x larger area than Liberty City. Rockstar doesn't copy the real map, they design a map that has the features and details they want in the game.
Hydro_PT
I remember Sam Houser or Dan Houser (one of them was for sure ) talking about how Liberty City is based on NYC but with its own look and feel, and why did they do that. It was interesting, I just don't remember which is the interview that they speak about this... but the main idea is the same. They based on NYC because they work and live on Manhattan, so they wanted to create a city that would feel real in the game, but that would still fit into the GTA world. That's why NYC was used to create Liberty City. Remember that the LC present on GTA III is not NYC but a junction of things from various American cities. prestonchan
I like this map bacause of it's size, take some time to drive from place to place but not forever at least. and each place have their unique feature. SA is way too big to drive from place to place or you really have to use a jet... VC is nice too, beastiful place
YoungJoe94
It's easy to sit around sayin' 'they should do this or they should do that' but when it comes down to actually doing the thing it takes alot of work and time (not to mention money) so creating the whole NYC...well... Catalinaslover
how real is GTA iv to real life? Hmm let me think. Well if i choose to kick in a door thats locked and arm myself with a heavy axe IRL i have a very high % of sucess. If i replicate this in IV i have the advantage in heavier tools like Rpg-grenades-shotgun, however my sucess rate is extremely low 0% Interestling enough this applies on all locked doors= around 99.5% of all Gta doors are this solid. Amazing.... In my RL experience interacting with cops i find them kinda annoyingly effective and reacting to minor stuff, i have yet to try run and gun them though i have the feeling if i ceated some gtaish havoc with a rpg they set a somewhat bigger search radius then 2 blocks for a slightly longer period. All i can think off for now but im sure there will be more discoveries someday.
Hydro_PT
Do you actually think it's possible to make interiors for each building and add such realistic features on a game? -.- Remember, GTA IV is a game, not a real life environment were you can do what you want. If we are going to say what is not real in GTA IV, then it's better to write really BIG posts... If you kill a cop in RL, you will be pursued for YEARS. Would you like to have that happening on the game if you kill a cop?
Catalinaslover
Wish they atleast made 5% accesible, as of now its abit silly. Great care in exterior design but to achieve a living city feeling interiors are kinda neat to have in game. More interiors=more immersive realistic city feeling and less driving simlation game with guns feeling. The great things about games is you can sort out the drag stuff like having to go through the experience of being a prison bitch and just be the cool guy. Rolf Harris
Well, if you've ever drove a car in real life, you'll realise how the handling and acceleration of the car is almost spot on. If I was to improve it, I would make it a tad longer to exceed into the last gear and make the handle some what less reactive dependant on the car. fuzzzywuzy
I like this map bacause of it's size, take some time to drive from place to place but not forever at least. and each place have their unique feature. SA is way too big to drive from place to place or you really have to use a jet... VC is nice too, beastiful place I liked SA because of the fact that you can mess around in the city or you can do your own thing out in the sticks. Can you imagine how easy it would be to get away from the cops if we had a forest area in GTA4. Also it wouldn't be so bad if GTA4 was as big as SA because now we can hop on a cab and instantly be across the map, the fare may be a little high but there's not much else to spend money on(except hospital bills )

Which is pretty cool considering GTA IV is just one city, and SA is a state. Take away the countryside, desert, and put all the cities together, and SA would have a map nearly identical in size to GTA IV.
