StaXkZ
Well ive put all on low took off vsync only medium settings are shadow and render, even with it low still nothing of a difference. my PC specs are AMD 64 3700+ 2.2Ghz :: Geforce 9600 GT 512 MB , 1 gig of ram i know its because of the ram but is there any way to help the fps to make it more playable than laggy. Lynxx
No. Its your CPU.
StaXkZ
Highly doubt its the CPU since the recommended is 2.4Ghz, so its not a biggie. and when i monitor whats being used alot its usually the memory the CPU is not at 100% usage or nothing to that matter. chngdman
That CPU doesn't meet the requirements. There is more to a CPU than gigahertz. That's why they only market with the gigahertz. Because they don't want you to know the rest about it unless you are looking (because most won't even use it anyway, it's better to just sell to the masses...). However, with ram, another stick should do you well and then you'll be able to start looking into a CPU... Ram costs less than a game, and definitely worth it. And IV will run better for you, much better, with another gig in there of ram. But you won't be astounded - the L2 cache is holding you way back. StaXkZ
hm alright sounds good so in the mean while get myself a good stick of ram or should i get 2?. Would you recommend this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820145488 my motherboard only handles SDRAM Edited February 6, 2009 by StaXkZ
FireItUp
Overclock your cpu and you'll notice a huge difference. My game hardly made 20fps with my e6600 @ 2.4GHz, but since overclocking to 3.4GHz it never goes below 30fps now.

FireItUp
Ain't to experienced with overclocking can you direct me to a good forum for it? What motherboard do you have? Maybe search the net on overclocking with the motherboard you own. I'm sure you'll find someone that has your board and has written a tutorial on how to do it. Just make sure you don't fry it, check to make sure the temps are good. It's best to get a better heatsink and fan for your cpu if you plan to overclock. EDIT: Oh, I didn't even notice that it was only a single core. I'm not sure overclocking is going to make much of a difference then. I dont think overclocking that single core is going to make much of a difference in GTA as it was designed for multiple cores.
StaXkZ
oh alright how about just gettin an extra stick of ram for the mean while? think it would help any Edited February 6, 2009 by StaXkZ
FireItUp
oh alright how about just gettin an extra stick of ram for the mean while? think it would help any It might a bit, but I don't see it adding too much of a boost though. Ram is super cheap now so it might be worth trying I guess. Also if you wanna try the overclocking route just search google for "cpu overclocking for beginners". I'll leave that up to you though, because I don't wanna be responsible if something goes wrong. Edited February 6, 2009 by FireItUp

NiSsAn_BoY
Well from what I see you need a new motherboard, cpu, and ram, you will never get to play gta iv without having problems through the game!
The_Cheese_Man
If that is a single core AMD 64 CPU, then it most certainly does NOT meet the recommended and dare I say it, minimum. 1 GB of RAM is not enough for gaming nowadays. 2 GB+ if you want to see less stuttering for sure. But otherwise you need a new CPU and if needed, a new motherboard. By the way, that Corsair stick is good enough. Corsair makes some high quality ram sticks. PecanFrost
You might be able to get away with playing on a single core computer, I've been playing it on a number of computers (I've been told on good authority it's because I'm sad) from a single core AMD Athlon 64 3000(overclocked to 2.4GHZ) and an Athlon 64 M 4000+ (overclocked to 2.86GHz) You'd probably be looking at getting an average 15-20FPS if you overclocked your processor to around the 2.4GHz mark and played around with the settings of the game. The jump in memory will help an having too little forces your computer to page data out to the hard disk and seriously slow down the game. Your motherboard accepts upto a 4800 athlon 64 +2 which will much improve the gameplay (I've also ran the game on an overclocked 4600+ at 2.6GHZ and it is a nicer experience, although a quad core makes Liberty City a very nice place to visit.) The only issue being dual core 939 processors are very overpriced right now, you could probably get a motherboard and processor for the same price if you looked around. Machines that meet or slightly exceed minimum requirements can't even make the game playable, So I wouldn't expect slightly below minimum requirements to be able to make it playable.
