Poll: When will the next GTA be released?

This is in response to a question posted by sarahandkevin, a question that's rather obvious

 

I would probably guess second half of 2010, possibly into 2011 before we see it. If it's that late we might see another DLC for IV.

 

Anyway, discuss here. The usual rules apply...

when do you all think gta next will be released, do you think it will be released on the current generation of consoles or next generation of consoles, if gta next comes out on pc do you think it will work with graphics cards like the ati hd 4870

I expect it to come out somewhere around the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2010. But I voted 2011, so that way, if it comes out early, we can all rejoice.

 

And I expect it to work on the current gen consoles as well as the current hardware for the PC market. Since it's going to be the same RAGE engine, I can't see why they won't be able to optimize it to work on the current systems. I know this sounds like a stupid statement considering the PC scenario atm, but I expect them to learn from their mistakes and get better.

I think there will be a full release, like GTA V, in 2011, but there will be a sub-release like GTA VC and GTA SA was of GTA III.

I'm wondering if the additional installments like Vice or SA were for III will make way for DLC with IV and future titles though. That's what I'm thinking for now.

 

Of course Vice and SA only shared a few characters, and most of the people who drove the plot in each of the games were pretty exclusive to that release. Sure, Salvatore and Ken Rosenberg were in SA but they had little to do with the core storyline of CJ avenging his mother's death, and Ken wasn't as involved as he was throughout Vice for better or worse (some think he's annoying but I thought Ken was hilarious in his own way).

 

Then there is the whole MMO concept and all the places things can go with that

GTA V Will not be out for at least another 6 years, the next game will not be GTA V everybody!

 

GTA III Era started in 2001, new era, lasted until 2007 ending with VCS.

 

GTA IV Era started out in 2008 and will most likely be out there until 2014.

 

The next few GTA's will not be V they will be expansions to IV, such as a new Vice City , a new San Andreas, a new London, etc.

 

Now that that is out of the way,

I don't want to see an MMO GTA as being their flagship, like WoW is for blizzard. I don't want R* to stop making the same single player epic storylines and features.

I think it's going to be in 2012. Because I think the IV era doesn't need to be a trilogy. There are already two DLC's, and the next one may have DLC's as well... So V would be too far away.

 

I think (well, I wish) R* will create a new city, not VC or SA, and then a couple of DLC's and then V, in present day's VC (I meant the same year it is released). So the next GTA needs to be big and very well created, like III's era SA. And for that they need time... To ensure quality.

I'm expecting the second half of 2010. Rockstar is currently busy with Chinatown Wars, The Lost and Damned, and not to mention the second episode of downloadable content. I don't think we'll be seeing a new Grand Theft Auto this year, as IV was built to last.

 

But I'm sure they got started on the new full Grand Theft Auto before IV was even released. It seems that they always start on new games before they've even released one that's in production, and it works to their advantage.

The thing is they said its built to last but come on can any of you lot see IV lasting? The only custmours it will last for is the 360 owners who are getting DLC, people who own the ps3 or pc copy like my self (ps3) who get sh*t all aint gonna come back to it. After a month of story then a month of exploring the city and mucking about GTA IV just sits in the box collecting dust. Its plain boring and unless the ps3 somehow gets DLC which logicaly and realsticly will probably not be the case its gonna stay that way. IV gets boring to quickly there is literaly nothing to do, im not like some people on this forum who posted some of the most ridiculous stuff like getting estatic over the fact that they saw a cop throw a coffee cup out of his car.. sorry that aint my sort of game. I would rather shoot people online in COD and build up my rank rather than drive through a massive detailed city, were 1% of the buildings have interiors and just check out police drop an empty cup from his car. Big bloody deal. They sacraficed WAY, WAY to much for "realism" and a dramatic charachter and story line. As much as I love Niko and the story I control that mother f*cker, its a game. If I want to dress him in a puffy out fit, or pimp up a car it should by MY choice. I should not be restricted in the game just because a fictional charachter dont feel like it. I might be going on a bit, but I need to back my argument up.

 

IV is only gonna last for what? 40% of the customours who own 360's? Lets not forget, NOT ALL of the people will buy the Lost and Dammed or pack two.

Shake is still on the right track, methinks. I don't see any new standalone release coming until both DLCs have had time to pull in some money. They also buy a little development time. Who knows, something bigger and better could be in the works, and we might be able to fly planes again

Well then start playing Saints Row or something, because this is the direction Rockstar is taking the franchise. They're trying to reach a new audience while still retaining the same audience that loved the basic concept of each of the previous games. Grand Theft Auto IV was a masterpiece in its own right. There is absolutely no denying that.

 

And I for one do believe IV was built to last. It's been almost a year since its release and I still love playing it.

Hiphopgamer seems to be claiming R* slipped this one out! Unsure if true but the guy seems to tell it like it is if he hears something. He went as far as to claim Episodes 3 and 4 would be on the PS3!

There are no episodes 3 and 4. Microsoft paid for two, and that's it. There isn't going to be a PS3 exclusive episode because Sony is not as concerned with their ps3 like microsoft is with the xbox. Anyway, we will likely see a full release by 2010 and an announcement this year.

Well hello there. Welcome to GTAForums.

 

Keep in mind there was III, VC and SA on the same engine with some reused graphics. RAGE was developed by Rockstar with some third-party elements so I don't think they would do just one release after putting that kind of effort into redoing GTA onto a new engine as opposed to Renderware. I think this generation of consoles will still be viable in 2011, if the lifespan of past ones is any indication. San Andreas came out four years after the PS2 came out, for example.

 

2011 is still possible, but it's also just as possible that with the new technology now in place that another game could be finished and shipped by the end of 2010.

 

I threw 2009 up there for grins, although Rockstar has announced there will be no new standalone game this year and I don't see any reason to not believe them.

2011. DLC 1 is just about to be released and DLC 2 is probably released in late 2009 or early 2010 so I think it will take a while until we get a whole new GTA.

Sorry dude but you don't know what you are talking about.

 

Nowadays games are harder to do than in any other moment in history. There isn't any "lazy" company that releases games at slow rate, they all work as hard as they can, It's just a task not that simple to do.

 

To give you a few examples outside R*: Final Fantasy XII took more than 5 years to be completed, and Square Enix have vast resources.

 

Spore took another 5+ years into development, just to fail to meet expectations.

 

 

Now, If you think about Rockstar Games (Specially R* North) releasing GTA Vice City just one year after GTA III, with just 9 months into production with awesome results...

 

And if you think about they released GTA SA 2 years after, and the game is waaaaaay bigger than the two previously 3D-GTAs created ...

 

And, the biggest example that gives you clues about how good R* is and how hard they've been working is GTA IV.

 

GTA IV was completed in just 3 years and a half.

 

They created the engine from scratch. They created the graphics from scratch. They created the logics from scratch. They built a game for 2 brand new and complex systems as the 360 and the PS3.

 

If that's not enough proof about how amazing are the Rockstar Games works, you must consider your stay here...

No, it's unlikely GTA III had prequels; Vice City (set in 1986) SA (set in 1992) LCS (set in 1998) VCS (set in 1984). If they did prequels 4 this then the choices thing like choosing who to kill, like on GTA IV e.g. Playboy X or Dwayne may not be in the game, whereas if they did sequels the choices could b nullified.

 

But if R* do this cleverly they can make prequels/sequels without losing the option f the choices yu can make
