This is what overclocking does to your fps

I still think it is funny when some says" I can play Crysis maxed out".

It only has about five textures to load because all the trees are the same and as for Burnout,  that has pretty much nothing on the screen other than cars to talk about.

If you really want to say you have Crysis maxed out, try switching on the AA, will see your FPS fall then.

Overclocking is worth doing not just for IV, everything benefits from the free speed increase. Otherwise why would people bother overclocking?

OC the CPU is not that great for a non GTAIV game, OC the CPU will make windows run faster, and the qeustion is do you really need it?

The good thing in CPU OC is that you can get a lot of speed just for a cheap cooler, and this just tell you that Intel/AMD are just don't feel the need to sell you a normal cooler that push the performance because they don't think that an average user needs more the 2.6-3.0 GHZ per core.

dont say anything against them, crytek was founded in my small little bavarian town ;D

Yeah Crysis doesnt use hat much RAM of the graphiccard, but it uses a lot of shaders, so atleast it needs much power.

@People willing to overclock. You wont be able to overclock properly, if you dont know which exact board, which ram and which cpu you have. Its all a combination. If one component doesnt support the speed of the other, it will alway be a bad compromise wink.gif

Of course, no other game eats tha much cpu for breakfast...but we are all gta-fanboys and want to play the game properly tounge.gif

Youll also get benefits of oc a CPU playing some games i.e. STALKER Clear Sky, Cryostasis ... , aside GTA 4. wink.gif

sorry, I play only great games: GTAIV, FC2, Crysis (both), Fullout3, Bioshock, and racing games blush.gif .

Racing games are very easy to handle for my rig, no need to OC, and a non GTAIV good game just wants more GPU force for AA.

Note: I used to play Mirrors edge but gave up after 30 min barf8bd.gif , and again no real boost of FPS for extara 0.6 GHZ of CPU power.

GTAIV, is the most CPU high performance depended game on the planet, and even with 4 cores of 3.0 GHZ iit is steel hard to max out cause of memory bandwidth botteleneck icon13.gif

Free speed, why not, just be careful, and if you don't have a clue - check some tech forums, ask some questions, then you should be ready to OC.

I have a Q6660, great for OC'n, in fact the place where I bought it 'Overclockers.co.uk' said in the website for my product that they Garauntee(sp?) that you can get it running at 3ghz stable instead of the 24.ghz stock speed.

I have done this and more, I have it at 3.2Ghz now, and it's very stable and faster, I bought a specialised CPU fan for £20 with a dial at the back of my pc for fan control, well worth it !!

you fanboys are ridiculous. theres more than "5 textures to lad because the trees are all the same" theres rocks, mountains, trees, bushes, soldiers, all sort of other sh*t i wont even mention, and they are all physics entities meaning they require a lot of cpu time, theres also high resolution textures, realtime deformation, wave physics, hdr, a lot i dont care to go into. you should prolly go read about cryengine2 [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CryENGINE2 ] or watch some tech demos [ http://www.gametrailers.com/game/2509.html ] the only way you could even dare say crysis is less advanced than gta4 is if you're a brainless fanboy. that sh*t doesnt even have AA ffs, let alone DX10.

i can play crysis with DX10, maxed out settings and no AA in 1280 with a higher avg framerate than in gta4 and it looks gorgeous. In gta4 i can play in dx9 with all settings on low and looking ugly as sh*t and still not even get a decent framerate.

i dont know why they ported this game so sloppy. the way it runs sh*tty in any setting and resolution makes me think this game is just emulated to run on pc with little if any actual code porting. this would explain why raw cpu horsepower helps framerates more than graphics card with lots of power. even guys with the best video card on the market still get sh*t framerates. coupled with a cpu that has 8 logical cores this game still runs sh*tty.

face facts fanboys this game is a terrible port, plain and simple. im off to play a game that looks and runs better than gta4 now...which one? any of em lol.

I can't say that you worng, only that you missed the point, that you can't compare Crysis to GTAIV, Crysis is a FPS game that has many details as a result of running in a small space, while GTA IV is a send-box game with far distance graphics and many heavy textures.

The problem with GTAIV is being high graphical game that in addition is unoptimized for PC's GPUs, this is why GTAIV is the most extreme CPU performane depanded game on the planet.

Rockstar shouldn't release it in such condition, they just thought that any GTA game will be a market breaker, and they was wrong- no one wants to play game on low settings with modern rig.

you do realize crysis takes place on a big ass island, and not in a small space right?

You don't load all the island, The first person game have to load less angels then a third person view game, in crysis you don't have many textures in the distance.

obviously you have never played crysis, or even farcry. yes the whole island loads, theres no loading except to go to specific areas that arent available by just walking the island. you can put on noclip, go in the sky, and fly from one end of the island to the other, you can see all the houses and bases and enemies all in their little camps waiting for a motherf*cker in an armored exoskeleton suit to dare come by for some whoopass.

I finished both crysis games 5 times, without cheats, I mean that you don'd load all the details of the island (like rocks and other models), you can see that in the crysis benchmark tool you will see to rocks only when you get close to them, You may not notice this because you don't have an hardware problems per settings, Do you really think that you can load the entire island of crysis with all the heavy details to 512 MB of video memory???Crysis is good in creating an illusion of the full island.

so the whole city of gta is loaded into my memory?

Don't try to be smart, of coure not, GTAIV like other games has different textures for the same place, for a far distance and more detailed textures for a close view.

Crysis doesn't have many buildings like GTAIV, and of coure not a skyscrapers, which made from textures, this is why GTAIV killing the GPUs memory bandwitch and crysis not!

Man what the hell are you talking about?

Now you're just blindly defending GTA 4 to the point where you don't even make sense anymore.

Some of the R* apologists around here just make me sick.

Get off your soap boax and admit: GTA 4 is screwed up.

First you should read my posts in this page, I quote myself: "The problem with GTAIV is being high graphical game that in addition is unoptimized for PC's GPUs, this is why GTAIV is the most extreme CPU performane depanded game on the planet.

Now what you say?

I just told the difference between GTAIV and CRYSIS, I was one of the first in this forums to hate Rockstar for this port and release!

Don't think that I am worng are some noob! mad.gifmad.gifmad.gif

Now what you say?

I say your previous post still makes no sense.

Unless you explained what you meant previously in this thread, before you made a senseless post.

Maybe your next post will take the time to explain your previous one.

Who knows, just maybe...

Ok, now try to understand. OK?

You have textures with more details and less details (they have different memory size), the game loads in the far distance the less detailed texture to save memory, and when you get closer to it, the game will replace it with the more detailed one, in order to show you the little details.

Now, did you get it?

That is in no way related to the post I was quoting.

Just forget it, you made a strangely pointless post, moving on now.

hehe, I have no idea either what his posts want us to say :x

At one time he is on one side..than on the other...but both sides have NOTHING to do with this topic?

Now a summary of the offtopic facts:

GTA IV is an unoptimized Console-Port...I think we all have noticed that by playing it for 5mins....

Crysis will not benefit that much by cpu-overclocking, because it doesnt load a huge sandboxed map, but only some physics..the rest is GPU-intense

Lets stop the offtopicstuff and let this topic left here alone till we have somethhing usefull to post wink.gif

I dont have anything left to say, too...just that my oc'ed cpu passes the prime-test but not the gta-iv-torture-test wink.gif

Really ? biggrin.gif Hehe i had an oc once that passed 10 consecutive BurnIn 100% load tests but not GTA 4 big damn test - i worked on voltages again and had a GTA 4 stable oc for 80+ hours of gameplay. colgate.gif

i know you really want to defend this game but you cant have it both ways. first you tell me that it doesnt load the whole city into memory...obviously not, then you turn right around and say that its so laggy and choppy because theres buildings and skyscrapers off in the distance and those are models? que pasa? if theyre off in the distnance then they are using simple models and low res textures. it wouldnt be eating up all the processor and ram. just like in crysis the trees and sh*t off in the distance arent using the same textures and model that they do when you are close to them. this game is buggy, unptimized and just plain sucks performance wise considering that yes it does look pretty up close, but why does it still suck in the performance dept when you have everything on low? if its all low poly models and low res textures then why the flark dont i get more than 20 fps standing outside the first hideout with little traffic and pedestrians, no buildings visible off in the distance to be rendered? why does my framerate go from 70fps inside niko's apartment, to 35 fps the second i go out the door into the hallway and then drop another 15fps the second i open the door to the outside? are there buildings in the hallways i dont know about? skyscrapers directly outside the door to niko's house?
