Graphics ain't that hot. sad.gif

The gameplay will be too distracting for that to take much notice. Can't wait for this! icon14.gif

I really cant stand people who say anything about graphics. I mean "LOOK AT THEM". I guess graphics mean less to people who started with snes and worked there way up.

Well aren't we a pissed off little asshole. I just said that I would prefer better graphics in this game. Why? Well obviously R* is using their RAGE engine, and this game doesn't look like it has that much going on environment-wise, which means there's more space for better visuals. This however makes it look like R* are doing a half-assed job. I mean, look at the goddamn grass in this game.

SNES?...Luxury! When I were a lad, we `ad nothin` but a Six Switch Atari, and we`d play games games like MISSILE COMMAND till Dad came `ome and beat us with a broken bottle before sending us off to bed to sleep in our own piss.

On topic: Max. That`s one of the things I`m most looking forward to; taming wild horses. I think they`ll be dotted around the place. Also interacting with all the other animals, and watching them interact with each other.

IGN's coverage on this game has been great lately; at the end of the interview they mentioned new screens to be released either today or tomorrow. I for one am completely hyped for this game, and glad they ditched Capcom and made this entirely a R* project. Looks like it's shaping out fantastically so far, and from the looks of it, it will be much more extensive and interactive than GTA IV.

Also, what's with the complaints about the graphics? Looks about the same as IV, if not better.

I like the two looks he`s got going on there, Roughneck Cowboy and City Slicker. Glad to see there`s gonna be different clothes to wear. Infact the whole style of the game looks ossum, look at the other characters in the screens, one`s wearing a bowler and the other top hat, wow.

I wonder what card game he`s playing? If there`ll be more than one? I`d imagine so, Gambling played such an integral part of the west.

It's, from what I see, that things look quite blocky in a lot of the screens. Or rather things look undetailed, unpolished. But it's easy to blame it on the stage of development.

I'll need to see some gameplay first, so I can see how it all looks in motion.

I don't really get people's obssssion ith graphics. I admit, i like a game with good graphics, but i dcon't think this is the mot importanthing. As long as the graphics are good enough to stand up to most contemporary games (which they are) it will be fine. It's all about the story and gameplay.

Only ridiculously horrible graphics could detract from the game, which these aren't, unless you have a hang up for anti-aliasing. If you do, then get over it. Or play something else

Poorly designed grass would definitely ruin this game.

The screenshots mentioned in yesterdays IGN article are now up in their gallery. They`re the ones I posted on page 8, apart from one which is here.

Latest screen

It`s the first image of a black man we`ve seen from the game and Dan Houser did mention racial tension would be in the game. Hopefully no lynching mini-games or burning crosses, or you could be an anti racist hero. Where will they go with this?

Not trying to hi-jack, but anyone hear about that other western game "Call of Juarez"?

I just wanted to bring it up because I'm happy this genre is getting some love.

I f*cking dig a good western, and its begging for videogame goodness.

I was just seeing an ad for Call of Juerez I believe, from UbiSoft in Gamepro magazine. Due this summer for all next gen consoles, it looks almost up to par with Rockstar's!!

Oh, sh*t I missed that, lol.

Heh, well the main character comes off like a prick in that screen. Gun to the back of a black man. Perhaps indicating....you do get to do some bounty hunting? Or he's just about to shoot some dude he snuck up on. I'd like to think bounty hunting.

Hope not, that'd be lame. But I do expect someone to say, "negro."

First NPC I can interact with that says some sh*t like that is gonna get a bullet in the dome.

Calling someone a Negro back then didnt neccesarily mean your racist, thats just what they called them.

You think it would fit if the dude called them "african-americans"?

I bet we'll hear some racist sh*t though, but the main character will likely be nuetral on the race thing, he dont discriminate, he shoot everybody!

"We didn't fully represent era-appropriate racial attitudes because it's too unpleasant to deal with, but we touch on those issues."

We asked for clarification on what Houser meant by not wanting to include racial tensions. "Not tensions, just attitudes. Tensions we did want to include. Within our research, the language, not that we shy away from too much, and we didn't really shy away from it, the language people use to describe other races is insanely offensive to modern ears and we hint at that but we maybe don't do it with quite the vibrancy that people use in some of our research. I mean some of the stuff you find is unbelievably simplistic and offensive, and we can hint at that and hint at these people's attitudes but we're not going to have them screaming these words at each other or displaying such complete ignorance. We have some characters like that but we tend to make them look somewhat ridiculous

That sounds to me like they`ll strike the right balance between showing a `whitewashed` version of the old west, and depicting the horror of being non-white (Native-Americans too I hope) at that time, which would have made a grim video game.

Well seeing as most of the game takes place outdoors and in the desert where shrubs grow and I bet you'll be forced to ride around aimlessly as well, yes it does.

I can't wait for an NPC to say any kind of sh*t to me. In the old west that is intolerable.

I hope we'll be able to make NPC's dance the old west way. Shoot around their feet and stuff. That would be awesome biggrin.gif

Any particular screens you'd like to point out? The (first) trailer is a poor representation of the graphics as most of it was rendered using a deinterlacing method called line doubling. Look a few pages back for more detailed info.

Also, in reference to latest screen, it could be simply be he's making that dude lead him somewhere. It's not like everything had an address like in GTA IV.

Well considering "negro" means black, then it doesnt seem all that derogatory in the timeline, and its not like nobody ever said, "I hate them damn coloureds".

The word doesnt matter as much as how you use it.

I prefer the look of the new dude. He looks like he could have some spanish or Native American in him. I like that.

I hope he doesn't have a cliche gruff voice. A deeper, Charles Bronson-type voice would be dope.

I`m really looking forward to the hunting that`ll be in RDR, hopefully it`ll be an ongoing activity that can always be attempted. I`m curious to know the mechanics of hunting and how the animals will react when you fire off a shot. I Wonder, will each animal will have to be physically carried back to the trading post, or just magically go into an inventory to be traded later?

40 species of animals is a hell of a lot, try thinking off the top of your head, what they could be. I did, and I couldn`t get to 20 so I looked on some hunting sites and came up with this:

Big Game: Buffalo, Musk Ox, Caribou, Moose, Mule Deer, White-tailed Deer, Elk, Pronghorn Antelope, Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Goat.

Small Game: Beaver, Otter, Prairie Dog, Chipmunk, Badger, Ground Squirrel, Mink, Cottontail Rabbit, Snowshoe Hare, Raccoon, Woodchuck, Wild Boar.

Birds: Turkey, Duck, Goose, Pheasant, Grouse, Ptarmigan, Quail, Dove.

Predators: Grizzly Bear, Black Bear, Mountain Lion, Cougar, Lynx, Bobcat, Gray Wolf, Coyote, Fox, Wolverine.

My guess is that the three different areas of the gameworld will have a distinct fauna and each species will spawn in particular habitat in that area, similar to cars in GTA IV. If R* does this right it could be as addictive as drug dealing in CTW. Please, not like the pigeons in GTA IV.

I think you hear his voice in the trailer, I`m not 100% sure, but that could be Marston saying "Mister Marshall...Come out, come out wherever you are!" A lot of folks think it sounds like Bill Paxton.

He does have a bit of the Bronson about him - that, and Patrick Swayze. Maybe a little Connery too.

The protagonist's name is Marston. So I assumed they were taunting him, "Come out Marston..." That's what I heard.

And only slightly did that voice sound like Paxton. I kinda doubt it, although his role in Tombstone gives him Western clout. I still doubt it.

Just watched the trailer again and it`s mos def "Marshall". A few seconds after that, a voice says "No one needs to kill anyone Bill". I think that`s more likely Marston. And I`m not one of those who think it`s Bill Paxton.

Unless Marston is the last name, Bill the first. Seems more likely. I really don't think we heard Marston's voice in that trailer. They're gonna save that for the official trailer, not some teaser. I think all of what we heard was just supporting character dialog.

That is the official debut trailer, from their Official site

Bill could be the dude saying "come out, come out wherever you are" and John Marston is helping the Marshall. Aparently, he loves to talk in riddles.
