Hunting! Wonder if you`ll be able to cook what you catch in order to regenerate health.

Even if they make you cook the food I'm sure it wont mean that you have to go through the realistic cooking process. It would be absurd and annoying. The closest to realism they could do is make some kind of a mini game or something which involves working with ingredients and then combining them. But they wont make that either (I hope) cause that too would be an annoying waste of time. This isn't an RPG. I'm sure if you catch something it will just be in your inventory and you will be able to eat it right away.

Are you implying Sam Houser suggested the horses need to stop at a waterhole or town for feed and drink or you're stuck en route"?

Perhaps.

(borrowing from his suggesting for petrol fillups in GTA)

user posted imageWonder what the horse controls will be. Maybe the same as on foot eg. press a to canter, tap a to gallop. Or could be more like cars, eg. right trigger to gallop left to halt. It does beg the question, will there be differences in horses abilities like the Mule, Steed, Stallion, and Pony from GTA IV, Be a bit lame if they all went at the same speed IMO. Does anyone think they`ll have stunt jumps and horse races?

In the trailer it shows someone on horseback herding cattle, so I think we`re in for some real cowboy work, either a mission or mini game. IGN does mention lassoes. Hopefully they put in original things like that and don`t just slavishly copy GTA IV, altho I do hope it takes place in the GTA-verse, Las Venturas as a one horse town maybe?

How are they gonna lock the areas? Wanted levels? Impenetrable barriers? And what about music? They can`t have radio stations. Or mobiles. Or GPS, come to mention it. I can see skipping journeys in a stagecoach or train tho, and those telegraph wires hint at some form of communication.

Interesting. I would think of the horse as similar to a motorbike, making me feel like it will be trigger based. Then again horses have legs, and therefore have the ability to strafe, unlike bikes.

I notice the trailer doesn't show shooting while on horseback yet, meaning we can't see if you get to aim before you fire (which would rule out the trigger drive theory). This makes me not want to rule out the analog stick method... especially since the focus aim mode can be used on horseback, according to IGN.

Rivers and bridges like always I would assume. Perhaps caved-in tunnels, etc.

If it was like the old west, you would have a wanted poster with your face and priority (stars). (Wow, remember the mugshots of the GTA4 gang back before the console release? I have a hunch tha was entirely Red Dead Redemption inspired. I wonder how long this game has been in development) Perhaps you would be wanted in one area and not the next. Perhaps you are wanted throughout the game as part of the story. It's not like there's cops everywhere.

The music would probably be dynamic, based on the action and environment. Think Left 4 Dead.

GPS weren't around in 1985 when Tommy Vercetti used it. It's called a minimap. They're in every modern open world game.

If you played the first Red Dead, then you will know that the horses in that game were the best ever created for a video game, imho. GUN's horses were hard to control and didn't react very realistically, but Red Dead's were dead on!

I hope they don't screw with that part much...

Hopefully you will be able to have your own gun, and over time you'll become more skilled with it. Similar the the way your horse will improve over time(a feature which they have announced).

Just watched the trailer and it looks like an amazing game. I'm not gonna get my panties in a knot because of the graphics, to me, graphics have always been the least of my concerns. Anyone like me? People tend to focus all about graphics now and they forget more important elements like gameplay and storyline.

Agreed. I'd take an immersive storyline over amazing graphics anyday, and this game seems like it'll have a great storyline. As long as it plays great, I don't really care what it looks like.

Very excited for this game.

I thought the original Red Dead Revolver had some awesome graphics for a PS2 game at the time. I went back and played it again recently and it holds up to say the least. Gameplay wise things are fun up until that damn Mexican general's level, when I originally played it this was the part that stumped me. The score is still one of my favorite videogame scores ever, Rockstar SD really nailed the look, gameplay and sound of the original so I'm not worried in the least about this new project. It will probably be awesome.

That sounds like a good idea for procedural missions:

Wanted posters appear in towns and you have to catch the criminals on them, dead or alive, then pick up the bounty. Could transfer to MP also, "The Bounty Killers" Altho dragging dead bodies back to the sheriff sounds a bit sheet.

I think you`re right about controls tho, here`s a revised take:

LS = move horse

RS = aim/look (camera)

LT = draw weapon

RT = fire weapon

X = focus mode

Y = mount/dismount

B = change weapon

A = lassoe

RB = gee-up (each press increases speed)

LB = whoa boy (reverses RB)

I`m hoping there`ll be more info at E3, maybe even a play review

Don Garcia aka NjNakedSnake

My only true concern is game length. I'm just f*cking tired of playing short games. For Christ sake, make the game worthy of the 60 bucks. I can't stand a game I can beat in a weekend, some 10-13 hours of playtime. That's bullsh*t, that's a f*cking rental, not a purchase. Game developers seems to be Goddamn allergic to games with long stories.

I want a game that'll keep my attention for at least a month... Make it so.

Make it so.

aye aye Captain.

I agree. Most of the games I played in the last couple of years (R* games excluded) are f*ckin' short. It's probably one of the main reasons why I like free roaming games the most. You get a good long story, and you can screw around in the meantime and do side jobs, or just kill people and make your game experience longer, and more fun. Gun was a good take on western themed games, but it was rushed (and quite obviously. You could see things were removed or not finished) and we ended up with one of the shortest free roaming games in history.

I'm more hyped for this game than I've ever been for any game ever. Ever since Revolver I've been praying for a sequel, and its going to be everything I hoped for and much more.

Even tho I never played Revolver, I`m right there with you buddy. I`ll be approaching the game as a Dollars Trilogy nut, having seen those films 500+ times and a GTA lover.

I`m just drooling over those two being combined, even if it does look more like Peckinpah`s Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.

Ok rockstar this is gonna basically be the new GTA of this generation.....

But uhh anyway, R* and SCE you guys still have a promise to us PS3 gamers that I and many other people have not forgotten about....at E3 06' you made an announcement stating that we'd get an exclusive FRANCHISE to play meaning that 360 gamers (no offense I got love for u guys) would be sh!t outta luck.....now I do recall a trailer being presented us that we all know now is this EPIC game that will be coming out this FALL ...but ummm it says on your website that it's for the PLAYSTATION3 computer entertainment system and,

Xbox 360

We have made it a long way since then , and R* has three things left that they've promised is...and only two of which we have seen....LA Noire & Red Dead Redemption......

wheres the PS3 exclusive guys angry.gif

What are you on about? This is nothing and will be nothing like GTA. We already got our GTA for this generation. Whether or not you didn't feel it was up to par to this generation is just your opinion.

As far as your comments on exclusivity. Why make such a big deal about it? Perhaps the game you're talking about it Heavy Rain ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_Rain ), but if anything "epic" for the ps3 is to be announced, expect it at this years e3.

AY buddy you got me right and wrong at the same time.

I give it to you that your correct about me feeling that GTA IV was not up to par and i apologize for that, but theres a lot of people who are on the same boat with me at that.

But if you read the IGN first look at Red Dead Redemption and the article they posted titled

"a man and his horse" you will see that the IGN journalists compare this title to GTA in many facets, even as to tell you how the HUD is very much like GTA's with an mini map and all, they even say that the GTA DEVELOPMENT TEAM has been playing a crucial part in the conception and creation of the game, not to discredit the team at Rockstar San Diego , or Rockstar Leeds who are also tag teaming this project. In a nutshell this game very well indeed be much like the GTA titles as in gameplay style (sandbox). Now as for the story and mechanics this game will most undoubtedly be unique in its own way just as the GTA franchise is.

And the PS3 exclusive title I was talking about was promised from Sony Computer Entertainment and Rockstar Games at E3 06'. They stated that it would be an exclusive franchise and they even teased us with a trailer of what is the NOW the multi platform

game this thread is about RED DEAD REDEMPTION.....and as for the other game LA Noire which has been hush hush for a WHILE now has had rumors of also going MULTIPLATFORM... so what Im saying is what and where the hell is this game they promised, and why havent we seen or heard any news of it yet ITS f*ckING 2009!

I cant wait for E3 09' it will truly be epic....words cannot describe

Where the hell did you get Heavy Rain from that has nothing top do with Rockstar games,

and we all know its a ps3 exclusive that should be coming out this year.

Just read the interview with Dan Houser in the IGN article Neoboi is talking about. A really fascinating read, hoho, I was right about the Peckinpah influence, wrong about the film

…The Wild Bunch has got an amazing tone, so if we got anywhere close to that we would be honored…

The second part of the interview is out next week but a few more things confirmed are:

-Wanted posters of you appear and hatred of you by the local population increases the more bad deeds you do.

-missions shut off until you behave more normally

-One of the largest worlds R* has created

-Drivable six-horse stagecoaches

Whats going to happen if you start shooting people, say in a bar? In GTA the police would come and chase you down, then the swat team then the fbi and you'd have a hollywood style car chase and shootout.

In the desert (mostly, and little towns) whats going to happen? Sherrifs? Then sherrifs on horseback?

In GTA, not all peds had guns, and some of them were cowards so police was there to protect them. In the old west everyone was crazy and packin' heat. So if you break any law there, sheriff and townsfolk will probably come after you.

Wanted posters start springing up an people start setting up posses to hunt your bounty , by the looks of things.

Hope it works in reverse where you can do some bounty hunting yourself+

Sherriff, isn't it? I recall the 80s rock band with the name, good stuff!

I was just seeing an ad for Call of Juerez I believe, from UbiSoft in Gamepro magazine. Due this summer for all next gen consoles, it looks almost up to par with Rockstar's!!

Only one r in sheriff Slamman, but at least we can confirm there`ll be more than one effin` sheriff in RDR.

Just seen the trailer for CoJ2 and tbh it looks like everything I`m not into, linear story, FPS etc.

Oh, give me a home

^ good one joe lmao.

as for COJ2 that doesnt look incising at all. it looks so generic like everything else out today, Im the type of gamer who looks for optimization and innovation along with good quality and impeccable uniqueness. only few games have given me that and they were all in the range of scoring 9.0 and higher.

IE;

GTA III,VC,SA,IV

Halo 1,2,3

killzone 2

Resident evil 1,2,3,CV,0, 4,5

COD 4

GOD of War 1,2

Twsted Metal 1,2

Uncharted

Ratchet and Clank

Mario ( too many lol)

etc.....

Okay fellas, the second part of the Dan Houser interview is up at IGN

Read it here

Two new screenies 1 and 2

Here`s a few bullets of what to expect:

- 40 animals you can hunt, various levels of them

- you get an outfit once you've killed everything. You get various rewards to your appearance once you reach the various tiers of achieving the various sets of things you can do one of which is hunting

- lassoing cattle and wild horses that you can tame. you can use it on people, so you can hog tie people and throw them on the back of your horse

- many multiples of tens of thousands of lines of dialogue

- dueling, not exactly a mini-game because it's life and death, but like a mini-game type activity

- no friends or dating system, but a lot of people you can play five finger filet with or go and drink in the bar with or play cards, or people you can fight or run in a posse with or be chased by

- multiplayer - Charging around on horses and stagecoaches and trains, shooting each other in a multiplayer world. It's pretty epic

Wow Houser`s even read Cormack McCarthy, I`m beginning to like the guy

When Dan Houser said you can 'train wild animals' that has me thinking that perhaps we get a horse for a long time in this game. Rather than stealing any vehicle you need, as in GTA, we have to keep one or two horses for our transport. I'd welcome this as an addition, far more realistic.

I really cant stand people who say anything about graphics. I mean "LOOK AT THEM". I guess graphics mean less to people who started with snes and worked there way up.
