Think I heard Bill Paxton towards the end.

I was going to say the same thing!

The whole thing, free-roaming wild west and such, would be f*cking awesome, if done right. Hope R* don't f*ck over the PC version..

If they don't make a PC version I will never buy another R* game again for any system as long as I live! And that's a promise. I'm looking forward to this game more then Mafia 2, and Mafia 2 is confirmed on PC. I think I'm loosing faith in R*. They turned out to be console whores.

RDR was never released on PC, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Of course we don't get an awesome freeroaming cowboy game... I guess plain ol' Mafia II will have to suffice. tounge.gif

Still looks dicked up. I hope the trailer's the problem, not the game itself.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Just watched the trailer.

Seems like they based the main character's look heavily on Colton White from Gun.

Looks good though. This and Mafia 2 are the only things on my wishlist at the moment. icon14.gif

Wasn't exactly blown away by that trailer. Liked the voice acting though, had some nice personality to it. The graphics looked pretty bland.

Yeah I mean it was in HD and it didn't look as good as I'd hope. BUT hopefully this is just an earlier stage of the game and better looks are to come.

Just watched the trailer and it looks like an amazing game. I'm not gonna get my panties in a knot because of the graphics, to me, graphics have always been the least of my concerns. Anyone like me? People tend to focus all about graphics now and they forget more important elements like gameplay and storyline.

I really don't see what's so bad about the graphics, looks alright for something on the RAGE engine.

yeah, definately going to be buying Red Dead Redemption...and the Mafia 2. However, i have a feeling at least one of those two games will be delayed until next year. It seems that companies delaying games for several months is the new norm. I was fine with it for GTA IV, but now it's with every game and i for one am starting to get frustrated.

the graphics at least look much better in RDR then GTA IV...even though GTA IV graphics are outdated now.

Download the trailer in HD, then pause it during playback. Now compare that pic to a still screenshot. Same physical resolution, yet one is super blocky/pixelated. Even without the filter, GTA4 does not look that blocky at 720p, even with my monitor's poor upscaling quality.

I'm betting the trailer was rendered from it's raw quality into internet quality incorrectly, and that the game will look like the screenshots. Because GTA4 and Midnight Club LA (both RAGE games) did.

EDIT: Alright, in the HD trailer, at around 46 seconds in, when the narrator says "I've seen strong men wither and die..." As he says "...die under that unforgiving sun..." the scene cuts from a DOF blurred spiky grass fixture in front of dudes on horses, to a side view of horses presumably the same.

Well look at the quality/resolution of the screen during the desert spiky grass thing, then look again while the horses ride by form right to left. Tell me you don't see a difference.

Most of the trailer is in the low resolution/deinterlaced view, but some of it (such as the horse side view segment) is in the proper 720p smooth resolution of the screenshots.

I'll be back with visual proof.

Yeah man, it's all in the pixels. If I'm gonna get a game, it better not have some blocky sh*t when I pause it in playback.

Seriously, if you actually have to put in an effort to see how bad the graphics are, they're usually not that bad.

Compare the middle pic with the top and bottom. This is before, during and after what I mention in the previous post.

If you don't notice the difference, you need either glasses or a new monitor, man. Also, you seem to not realize I'm saying the game will not look pixelated like this in real-time action, as evidenced by the middle pic.

Compare the jaggies on the grass spines in the top pic to the brush between the horses in the second, then to the brushes in the bottom right in the third. Look at the power lines and building tops in the third, then look at the rope and smaller details in the second.

I'm fully convinced some form of unnecessary deinterlacing took place for most of these scenes. When I used gimp, and applied a deinterlace filter (sadly GIMP does not have a standard line-doubling filter instead if its blended deinterlacing), they look almost identical to the default already-deinterlaced image, regardless of whether the even lines or the odd lines were copied. proof soon.

EDIT:

user posted image

Here, we have deinterlaced even, deinterlaced odd, and default. Notice all look identical.

user posted image

Again, we have deinterlaced even, deinterlaced odd, and default. As you can see the default is of higher quality than the other two, which resemble the rest of the trailer. I think GIMP uses a blend along with its deinterlace method instead of the standard "line doubling" method that the rest of the trailer uses. This makes it harder to see jaggies.

for some reason I have this pit feeling that this game is gonna be as epic as GTA....I read the first look article at IGN and the way they described it being open world and vast along with the same amount of freedom that a GTA player would have plus the fact that you can become an outlaw and accept missions from anyone something like fallout or oblivion... im gonna put my neck on the line and even go as far to say this game might even 1up GTA IV...wow

I don't usually wander far outside of GTA MP or Events, but put in a google search for this game (just heard about it) and what do you know...right back here again! lol

If everything you guys are saying about this turns out to be true, then this is a MUST HAVE for any GTA fan! I loved the last one as well, but was so dissappointed with the linear style of gameplay, considering its from R*.

I agree with the poster that said this game might actually trump GTA! Been waiting for R* to do something like this forever...opens the door to all KINDS of open-ended games: Roman theme - Pirate (High Seas) theme - Ming Dynasty theme...lol

Cpl questions though (I only skimmed the thread, so apologies if these were already answered):

1st, any mention of online multiplayer?

...and 2nd (and most important), what is the current estimated release date?!?

WOW. I simply cannot wait for this game. Downloaded the trailer on xboxlive last night and have watched it a couple of times, plus gone thru this thread again. The IGN report has got my anticip-o-meter cranked up to eleven.

Never played any of the western based games before apart from the demo of gun and I wasn`t impessed with that, but some things struck me straight away:

Firstly, the protagonist Marston`s face looks like they`ve layed pics of Charles Bronson, Clint Eastwood and Lee van Cleef on top of one another and used the resulting image as a base.

Multiplayer has been confirmed so my imagination is running riot as to what modes there`ll be after deathmatch and posse deathmatch.

It looks a tad more like a rendition of Peckinpah`s west than Leone`s but hey, I can live with that, and the voice acting is top notch, as you`d expect from R*.

Hunting! Wonder if you`ll be able to cook what you catch in order to regenerate health. Not so bothered about Deadeye tho, does it need it?

Grand Theft Horse-o, yeah man, can`t wait

1. Go on killing sprees as they wish.

2. The world is divided up into three large sections: Frontier, Mexico and Northern territories

3. Progressing though the story opens up the other sections. Once unlocked, you can travel between them all via horse, walking, stagecoach, or train.

4. You can't own property

5.  Regenerative Health

6. Mid-mission checkpoints

1. Old West killing sprees? Um, f*ck yes please.

2. Mexico eh? Wonder how that'll be done.

3. Unlocking sections of the map? Yup, Rstar is behind this game... I wonder if we'll be able to move/do stuff while in a stagecoach or train. I'm going to wanna bitchslap the stagecoach driver in the middle of the journey and steal his ride.

4. That's kinda disappointing. Are we just gonna have a "safehouse" or something?

5. Kinda lame, because that really kills the difficulty of the game if all you have to do is lay low for a minute or two and then you're right as rain.

6. Nice, nothing more frustrating then having to star ALL over again.

Ok rockstar this is gonna basically be the new GTA of this generation.....

(Im srry but IMO GTA IV was awesome but it didnt make me feel like I was playing a fresh new epic game like GTA SA or VC did, its hard to explain..it's just that feeling a hardcore GTA fan got when he or she first played VC or SA it just didn't feel that same with IV, I just hope they do better with the next GTA (Stop calling that sh*t GTA V because thats not what its gonna be!))

But uhh anyway, R* and SCE you guys still have a promise to us PS3 gamers that I and many other people have not forgotten about....at E3 06' you made an announcement stating that we'd get an exclusive FRANCHISE to play meaning that 360 gamers (no offense I got love for u guys) would be sh!t outta luck.....now I do recall a trailer being presented us that we all know now is this EPIC game that will be coming out this FALL ...but ummm it says on your website that it's for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and,

Xbox 360

We have made it a long way since then , and R* has three things left that they've promised is...and only two of which we have seen....LA Noire & Red Dead Redemption......

wheres the PS3 exclusive guys angry.gif

What are you on about? This is nothing and will be nothing like GTA. We already got our GTA for this generation. Whether or not you didn't feel it was up to par to this generation is just your opinion.

As far as your comments on exclusivity. Why make such a big deal about it? Perhaps the game you're talking about it Heavy Rain ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_Rain ), but if anything "epic" for the ps3 is to be announced, expect it at this years e3.
