i thought about this game recently and why its not announced already. Let me tell you something.

Maybe it has to do with Nintendo. Yes you read that right! Nintendo might actually be interested in targeting hardcore gamers again with their next console. We already know that they want EA back on board so what if that console will have full Rockstar or Take Two support in general?

Maybe they'll reveal that game in April/may or later (if it is even a thing)

what if the rumors about "legends of the west" turn out to be true? would it be so bad?

I remember seeing that rockstar was hiring someone a few months back that is good with destructible environments. THIS is what the next red dead needs! Could be a game changer if done right

Indeed - it is an incredibly unimaginative and badly written fake nonsense.

landon ricketts rides, AGAIN. he was a true legend of the west...so again, what would be so bad f characters were to return. and what's so bad about irish or seth? neither of them had to always be a drunk nobody or mad necrohphile!

Nothing wrong with Landon Ricketts. But Seth and Irish I can't really see as protagonists. R* would have to turn their personalities a full 180 degrees to make them a hero and it just wouldn't feel believable. I know Seth hasn't always been crazy, but that doesn't mean he used to be a badass gunslinger.

Unfortunately Ross Hagen (The voice of Landon) died in 2011 so they'd need to find a replacement. I've always thought Sam Elliott would make a great Landon Ricketts.;)

Well it'd be a younger and less grizzly Landon I imagine

Either way I want a true outlaw. As great as John was, he was too 'good'

Id happily had a 2 or 3 character thing. Wouldn't mind playing as a native TBH, with instincts and tracking abilities, tomahawks and no guns but arrows

He'd team up with the badass outlaw to rob some banks and trains

Yeah I like that

I was thinking, maybe the next game needs to take a different approach to it's setting. I feel that RDR summed up the Wild West so perfectly, there's not that much that could be added. So I was thinking about new possibilities for a setting, here's some of my ideas:

Canada - Probably my least favourite idea, but could definitely add something new in terms of environment, with mountain ranges and forests. I don't really know much about Canadian history so I can't really give it a context.

The South - I think this could work pretty well. Set in somewhere like Louisiana/Mississippi, in the aftermath of the Civil War, with groups like the KKK running about and the general aura of the South, I reckon this could work.

Australia - This is my favourite. This would change up the game considerably, while still being very familiar. Australia was crazy during this period and had loads of parallels to the West, while still being unique. You had the brutal cities like Sydney and Melbourne with slums and razor gangs, aboriginals fighting the colonists, Bushrangers Australia's unique type of outlaw, Chinese opium dens, brutal police oppression, Irish dissidents, crazy animals, the Victoria Gold Rush. The map would be the best part, I think it'd be like a condensed version of Victoria up to Southern Queensland; there'd be arid farmland, red wastes, gum forests, clouded mountains, mangrove swamps, rainforests, green farmland, the prim colonial city of Melbourne and the rough harbour city of Sydney.

I recently rewatched the entire gameplay series for Red Dead Redemption ... it's so great. Just when I thought I was done with PS3 I need to get back in, I might boot up RDR today and start the game from the beginning. One of the best gaming experiences I had to date - played this game for well over 400 hours and it still doesn't get old. The physics, animations, characters, dialogue, horses!, random events, the map, the story, the music! ... everything about this game is simply amazing, if a game comes close to perfection, this it is. This game left me surprised a few times during my first playthrough - just when you think the story is over it gets even more emotional and does something unlike any other videogame story before. One has to love the 3/3 of the story.

Not trying to sound biased, but Australia during this time period would be awesome. Imagine all the Ned Kelly references?

When you could actually play RDR on the Xbox One. I was doing the mexico ride, with the great background music, and I was going on a trail near the river and I slid off the cliff right into the damn river and died. It completely ruined the moment. :(

Can they just make it backwards now ffs?

im late but i'd rather play as uncle than seth or irish lol uncle must have been tough as nails back in the day

but i think the next red dead installment should take place in the 1860s, either right before the civil war or right after it .

Only because I've seen the film, the Proposition, do I think this would be an interesting setting. Great movie, by the way, and very much a "Western" film in my eyes.

I would be really surprised if the protag wasn't Landon Ricketts. He's established as a gunslinger, and the newspaper in RDRedemption suggests he wasn't exactly honourable.

I'd be behind a multi-protag game, if it was done a little more freely than GTA V (with how short the story was, i didn't like having characters "locked off"). I'd like to play as a native american, with a lot of low-tech weaponry, maybe some connected-to-the-earth-style abilities, like not being raped by cougars or bears every ten seconds :p

What I would like in the sequel is none of that "Falling into water = dead" stuff. That was my only gripe about Red Dead,

Oh god, I was thinking this when playing RDR earlier. I really enjoy walked and riding the horse through water, especially at lake Don Julio. Horses can swim, right? I know many people back then couldn't swim, but surely out next protag can.

There are two types of rumors. Those which is worth reading and investigating, and the other type which is worth disregard and disdain. This 'Legends of The West' is of the second type, so it should vanish before it gets sillier than it currently is. There should be no room to recycle the rubbish.

I agree.

It needs to be Red Dead (insert something new and interesting here), not some fanfic esque title like Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West. sh*t sounds like a character DLC add-on.

The next game is Red Dead Reception, where the game takes place during a Western wedding and there's an evil jealous man who must be found. Gameplay is about 30 minutes.

I can resonate with you. I scored 500+ hours and it was a combination of two story playthroughs and enough of Gang Shootout/Hold Your Own/Grab The Bag/Horse Racing/Co-op in multiplayer. It was an experience that left me with the teenage emotions of 2004, the year in which I was fascinated by San Andreas. No wonder that RDR was the only game that I bothered to achieve 100% status in single player and complete all multiplayer challenges, and yes, it definitely includes exploring the map to pick flowers, which someone might argue that it is pointless to do so, but it is not when you are immersed in a beautifully created environment that is very charming.
