I`ve done a little close-up analysis of the HUD & mini-map using paint.net, so sorry if some of these imgs aren`t of the best quality. I`ve also been using the XBL version as it shows a nice clear view of the HUD as it would appear ingame, so you might have to trust me if the icons aint so clear here. This might not be the final build of the game, things could change.

Anyway, first up is the Trader icon. I`m glad this was taken when Marston was walking up to the trader, it`s just a rectangle with a triangle on top. There`s also a `B` and a little green house.

@01:15

1. Mission for `L` which is green

2. `I`

3. No idea what this icon represents, it looks like a squirrel LOL. It`s taken when He`s galloping thru the big adobe arch with the vulture on top.

4. little green house (again)

@0:45

user posted image

This is taken when he shoots the exploding red barrel (1.) could be the marker for the barrel or the guy who`s priming it, but you gotta love those gaming cliches, DK64 comes to mind. (2.) must be mission destination.

@0:55

user posted image

1. a crescent moon could indicate some where only open at night

2. & 3. House & `B` (we see them a lot)

@01:00

user posted image

1. a big white circle, maybe it`s a daytime location. It`s when he`s on a horse going thru a gateway in the rain.

2. a big `?`

3. & 4. house & `B`

@0:48

user posted image

1. Marston is being attacked by coyotes at this point. The icon looks like three leaves, could he have been out picking flowers?

2. & 3. (ditto!)

4. an arrow, must be north.

@02:32

Here we have our bounty marked with a red skull.

@02:37

user posted image

1. a white skull I guess, is a wanted poster, it`s when he`s robbing the lady.

In all scenes where he`s walking, there`s no colour in this bar, must be horse health. The red one drains when he`s using dead-eye later on

2. & 3. House & `B`

@01:01

user posted image

1. Ace of spades seen when he`s walking into Diabolos Rojos

2. A suitcase with a heart on it (doctor/herbalist?)

3. A circle with three marks making a triangle around it (telegram office)

4. A bottle (bar/drinking game?)

5. Wanted poster

6. & 7. `B` & house.

1. An exclamation mark, which ingame was a prison wagon

2. Trader

3. Suitcase with heart.

4. `B`

5. telegram?

Cannot make out what 6 & 7 are, but they`re in the town of chuparosa

user posted image

Busy one this, I think it`s Armadillo

1. A train

2. two parallel lines enclosing a circle, looks like a ticket, but could be telegram tickertape.

3. an open hand, 5-finger fillet, most likely

4. looks wierd, the bottom half of the icon looks like a wagon wheel, thetop half, a hat. Stagecoach perhaps?

5. Bottle

6. telegram?

7. trader

8. Gunsmith

9. Doctor

10. `B` (duh!)

11. exclamation mark (random event?)

not sure if you can see it so good, but above the trader icon there`s a small `x`

user posted image

I like this one. It`s where Marston shoots the guy off the horse and steals it.

1. is a bue house which is visible ingame and looks like a barn/stable

2. is a flashing eye indicating a witness has seen your horse theft. A message comes up saying, "If you commit a crime and are spotted by civilians, you will become wanted if they tell law enforcement"

user posted imageuser posted image

This is where he shoots an enemy (A) with the Mauser. When he downs him, one of those small x`s appears. There`s a few dotted about, and I`m guessing it`s some kind of loot icon and you can hold a few guns of the same kind in your inventory to sell later.

user posted image

This is another one of those loot icons (x) but this time it`s further along the train that he climbs on top of, which makes me think that trains will be fully explorable unlike GTA4.

user posted image

This is a big battle scene, the blue icons could be friendlys

user posted image

..but in this battle scene he`s surrounded by friendlys with no blue icons. Maybe a different build?

user posted image

Finally, here`s old `B` again (B) when John is shooting the guy in the gut. You can see the mission marker in the vid, and the arrows are animated and cascade downwards

Now I hope that house is enterable.

Your campsite is your safehouse. And that 'enter house' marker makes me frown. Surely we'd be able to just walk into the house? There's gotta be more to that.

Yeah, but you set up your campsite, or carry it round with you. Why leave it somewhere when you could carry it so you can save anywhere?

And it's not an 'enter house' marker, it's a mission marker, no?

Surely you can have a house. Considering we know that Marston can become very rich, it would seem odd that he has to camp all the time.

I'm slow. I'm assuming we are one the same page. You can set up your camp, pretty much anywhere. I'm assuming when you save/sleep, the campsite probably remains, until you set up a new one elsewhere. Owning a house kinda defeats upgrading the campsite, and you're playing a character on a border-crossing journey to find bandits. Owning a stable home kinda kills the 'on-a-mission' feel Rstar is going for. That's just me though. The money is probably just for ammo, weapons, and goods. Rockstar has always been bad with offering players an abundance of what to do with their cash.

And I dunno, it probably is a mission marker. Again, I'm slow.

Of course we're on the same page. We're discussing something neither of us knows about for sure. tounge.gif

You can set up your camp, pretty much anywhere, as long as you're outside a town. If you've just completed a mission, and are miles away from anywhere, you wouldn't want to risk riding back to a town, so you'd set up camp and save there and then. But, if you were in a town, and wanted to stay there, why not have safehouses available? It's not like it even has to be a house, just a constant room in a tavern, or something. Maybe earned through helping someone?

Ahhhh said the blind man, I see where you're coming from now. Good point.

In the latest video, we do see John ride past a building with a sign that reads, "Board Lodging, Day~Week." At :52 to be precise. So yeah, that sounds about right.

Vanilla Shake

I really didn't pay any attention to this until I checked out that gameplay introduction video. Holy sh*t, I want this right now.

Oh f*cking hell... you can't be f*cking serious? This looks too f*cking awesome! I really want this on PC for f*cks sake!

The features... the possibilities... it all looks too damn good! Looks to me like the perfect RPG/Sandbox game. Heck, and I'm not the kind of person that digs RPG's quickly.

The gameplay introduction is absolutely mindblowing. The atmosphere is stunning.

I hope I can convince some of my friends to buy it on their 360's so I can join in on the fun. Damnit!

I`m not sure whether the house icons are different colors because they are from different builds or they have different purposes, but here you can see a building come into view where the blue house icon is and it looks like some kind of barn/stable

Anyone ever thought that the house is the closest motel?

And don't worry Don Garcia. All buildings will be enterable. I'm betting if you can see through the window you can enter it.

Yes it's a stable. If I'm not mistaken that place was shown in the Old West Project back in 2005. It showed those two buildings and the one in the back loos to be a stable/farm of some sort because it has a barn and fences around it.

I don't mean to ruin ideas, but just because it looks close, it doesn't mean that blue marker is that building. Just saying.

I might be wrong but the house in Joe's picture looks like the house with the mission marker/building entry chevrons outside.

If this is the case R* is showing us precious little of the map. What else could be out there?

Nah, look; there's a fence with a high gate outside the one with the mission marker, like it's in a town.

The one in the seperate picture looks more like a ranch, what with the big gate the horse is riding towards.

We have the `B`, the north arrow, and the green house. We could use triangulation to create a map, and get an idea of the size of the gameworld.

Sure, but explain first... confused.gif

I think he means we can map out all the points in relation to "B" using North as a constant.

Potato Boggle

This is from the new Game Informer. It's talking about honor.

"Though Marsten's tale is ultimately a scripted journey of revenge and redemption, players can influence his public perception by acting honorably or dishonorably.  Monetary rewards and different opportunities arise when you fall on either side.  This standing is mostly dictated by the way you handle situations.  Do you save someone who faces execution from a Mexican army firing squad?  When the villagers in town are calling the sheriff out for evil doings, do you join their protest and bring him down or side with the sheriff and violently restore the order?  If you've earned enough honor to become famous, a third option presents itself in that you can convince them to walk away with no bloodshed.

  Players can also adopt the role of a bandit by donning a bandanna that masks your personality.  If you kill a villager while in disguise,  you'll gain a wanted level that raises the bounty on your head as you kill more people.  At this point, you can fight to your last breath, or in the exact same fashion as GTA IV, try to get outside of the search radius.  Once you are in the clear you can remove your bandanna, which will lower your wanted level much quicker.  Escaping town doesn't mean your crime goes without penalty.  Once a day, the village where your crime was committed will send out a posse to hunt you down.  To stop the daily harassment, Marsten must earn a Monopoly like "Get Out Of Jail Free" card in the form of a pardon letter by completing virtuous tasks, paying the bounty himself, or bribing a law official into making your crime disappear."

Hope you guys enjoy this.

(Somethings might be spelled wrong cause I typed all this out)

The system sounds so awesome. From the sounds of it we'll be able to play in any alignment (Chaotic Good, Lawful Evil, etc)

Snake Without a Tongue
Anyone decided whether they'll be honourable or dishonourable?

I'm going the hero route myself.

Unless the game just really sucks we'll all play it every which way but loose. Here's looking forward to April when I can shoot women and cows!

I must admit, I didn't give a crap about this game when I first heard about it. But after the gamplay video release, I find myself anticipating this game like I was for GTA IV and the DLC's. Great work to Joseph, breaking down the video. And to everyone else for that matter. I enjoy reading everyone's interpretations and breakdowns of the video. icon14.gif
