I am very excited for this game. I'm curious as to what exactly will be shown in the video thats coming Tuesday, but I'm sure it's gonna be good.

I can't wait to unleash the Devil's fury with my Peacemaker.

I'm hoping the game will be a wilderness adventure to top Oblivion, and it's looking to deliver that in spades.

Great, I'll be waiting for next Tuesday. I'm sure R* won't spoil about the story, they just want to show us some features and gameplay mechanics. Err... perhaps the campfire footage will be on it biggrin.gif

I wouldn't be surprised if the video went through the same demo the press saw. If so, it will be interesting to see if they encounter the same bandits and soldiers they did in the preview (of course, they always could have recorded the feed when they previewed it).

As for the story, as long as they don't show any mega spoilers I really couldn't care less about it. Story is the least of my priorities in this game.

I'd be happy with a video of Marston riding a horse in the middle of nowhere and shooting guns at nothing.

Every time i try to not watch videos of new games i always end up watching them anyway. I'm pretty sure i'll be the same with RDR videos as it just looks amazing.

The latest episode of Invisible Walls on Gametrailers gave away some new tidbits from the press event:

"If your horse is stolen you can whistle and it'll buck off the thief and come back to you." This is a neat feature. We know that the horses will grow on you the longer you ride them, so the question that is begging to be asked is: Does this only work if you've spent a lot of time with the animal or will it apply to any horse?

"No interaction with whores. No, you cannot indulge in their wares." Some might be disappointed, but remember that Marston is a family man. I'm reminded of William Munny refusing a whore in honour of his dead wife.

"Bandana will lower your noteriety. Committing a crime while wearing a bandana will reduce the wanted level gained for that crime." This is a nice touch, and makes me wonder if there will be other accessories you can wear with helpful benefits.

"Can save anywhere by setting up camp. After spending a night at camp your weapons will be reloaded. "We know about the camps, but apparently when you load the game your ammo is full. While a breach in reality, this is handy considering being stranded with no ammo in a world full of wild animals and bandits would be a bad thing.

I don't know how new any of this is exactly, but every drop of info counts for something.

He sounds like Johnny.

Same voice actor isn't it.

It is? Didn't know. Thats cool.

All that info is new to me Ben. Good stuff.

The ammo thing sounds a bit weird though. Kinda takes the fun/challenge outta things, no? I think so. And the bit about being able to build a relationship with a horse sounds cool. Maybe we'll be able to jump off a balcony onto his back like Zorro. Heh.

New info in the new Gameinformer. All this info is thanks to XXXgamerPS3 on the IGN Red Dead Revolver board:

If you're hunting for treasure you actually have to use your eyes, it's not marked on the minimap. You're given a drawing of the surrounding area and you have to find it yourself, then look around. Uncovering the wrong rock can unleash animals like rattlesnakes on your ass.

Upgrading your camp can result in health and ammo regeneration while you sleep.

If you're famous enough you can settle disputes with words.

You can interact with any NPC in a town (and presumably in the wilderness as well).

If you're wanted a posse will be sent out daily to take your ass in but you can earn a pardon for your crimes by doing various tasks.

Some items being sold are Rabbit's Foot and Chewing Tobacco, along with the Bandana and Campground upgrades.

The NPCs actually go about their lives. One was chopping fish. Perhaps fishing is in the game?

Blackjack and Poker are confirmed.

Closing comment:

"Rockstar openly injected that everything we've seen so far is just a small fraction of the game and the yet-to-be announced multi player will be a huge part of the open world experience"

So we have to buy the ammo regenerating campsite? That's better. Hope it's expensive as hell.

Talking out disputes, interacting with NPC's, being hunted for our infamy? Sounds like a Bethesda title. I LIKE.

We continued into the town of Chuparosa, a small rundown Mexican town where we see civilians continuing on with their daily lives preparing chickens, making horse shoes and generally just milling around. Now if we had been really bad up until this point we could possibly see the civilians making for the doors but seeing as we had a pretty neutral fame and honour rating at this time we were largely ignored. Except, that is for the ladies on the first floor of the saloon who were calling out to us and offering their wares.

Sorry for the bump but the first preview is up and packed with new info

I think a link to the new trailer just went up on Live by accident.

It was there, and when I clicked it there was no new trailer, just the old ones. sad.gif

It does.

One thing I dislike about Oblivion (haven't played Fallout 3) is the combat. And the visual style. And the setting. But I love the exploration and how the world seems alive.

Rockstar seems to be taking that wonderful element, mixing it with their own superior graphical and combat tech, putting it in a fantastic setting that's tinged with fantasy, was a fairly recent era in history and many people have a great love of.

Everything we've seen of the characters, the story, the music, the locales. It just reeks of classic Western.

I showed my Grandma the trailer to Red Dead Redemption and she said it looked like a great movie (her favourite movie, besides the Godfather, is The Good, The Bad and The Ugly). That is the power of what Rockstar has created: That they can put together a trailer for a videogame that looks like a trailer to a classic grainy Western movie.

I'm seriously considering buying an HDTV just for this game, so I appreciate it in all it's glory.

I'm getting this info from someone else on another board, I don't have the magazine myself, but he said there are 8 screenshots in the magazine. One of them features John cracking a safe. Another is a closeup of him with a bandana. Unfortunately, none of the screenshots are online as far as I can tell.

I actually AM looking forward to the SP of RDR, but what excites me the most is what the MultiPlayer will be like...and it seems to have the least info released about it.

And whatever it is like, you can bet it will be a preview to the next GTA Multiplayer...and as (I think) we all know, IV MP has some flaws. sarcasm.gif

I'm looking forward to the multiplayer as well. What I'm most curious about is how the characters will work and to what depth we can customize them. I have very little experience with GTA IV's multiplayer, so if RDR's is anything like that then I have no clue.

I was just in a Borders, and saw a magazine with RDR on the cover. There was in fact a close up of John with a bandana, saying something along the lines of "wearing a bandana helps you keep your identity secret and prevent a wanted level" or something like that. Sadly, I couldn't take a picture as I didn't have my phone. If no one has any by tomorrow I'll try and get one.

Thats probably the issue of Gameinformer I'm talking about, since it had a picture of John with a similar (if not identical) caption.

The new video comes today at 1PM, EST (10AM, PST)

This is a big post, but given that this thread stretches for many many pages this might be helpful. A compiling of all the information I could find, with some great contributions from the community (particularly in regards to the weaponry).

None of this is new information. But now it's all in one post for the convenience of users, especially those wanting to get acquainted and up to date quickly and easily.

Red Dead Redemption

Developed by Rockstar San Diego with contributions by Rockstar North and Rockstar Leeds

Runs on Rockstar's RAGE engine and NaturalMotion's Euphoria.

John Marston:

The only character you play as

Has an inventory that can hold four items

All weapons and items appear on the character model, even the remaining ammo

Can't buy or own property

Save by setting up camp

Camp can be set up anywhere

Can buy equipment from the General Store

Items available to purchase include Bandanas, Tobacco, Rabbit Feet, Campsite Upgrades and more

Upgrading the campsite allows for ammo regeneration while you sleep

World:

Three regions: Desert, Plains, Mountains.

Each region is bigger than GTA IV's Liberty City

Total world size is twice as big as San Andreas

Day-and-Night cycle, weather changes and seasons

Can enter any building

Two towns confirmed so far are Armadillo and Chuparosa

Regions are unlucked by story progress

No load times when transitioning from exterior to interior

Working commerce system

Wildlife:

Full ecosystem, with predators and prey.

40 different types of animals.

All animals can be killed.

Animals will attack you and NPCs

Vultures can come and eat at the bodies of your fallen foes

All animals will have their own AI, including birds

Travel:

Can ride horseback. Use spurs to increase speed, but if you use them too much the horse will buck you.

Can lasso wild horses, break them and saddle them

Carriages and trains make up fast-travel. You can experience it in real time or "take a nap" and wake up at your destination for instant travel.

If you try and tame a horse and don't do it successsfuly, the horse can drag you off.

You can summon your horse with a whistle

Horse has it's own health gauge

If your horse is stolen you can whistle and it will buck off the theif and return to you

NPCs:

NPCs will converse with one another, work at their jobs and act naturally

Dead NPCs can be robbed

All NPCs can be interacted with in conversation

NPC houses can be broken into and robbed

NPCs will set up camps in the wilderness, which you can join

Towns can be wiped out and temporarily become ghost towns. They repopulate in 2-3 days.

Can spend the night with women

NPCs will react to you based on your actions, which are measured by your Fame and Honor stats

Combat:

Similar to GTA IV

Cover system

Guns will be period accurate.

Guns will have less than perfect accuracy

Regenerative health

Dead-Eye system with two levels: A simple bullet time, and an option to stop time, paint six targets, start time and shoot at all the targets automatically

Dead-Eye can be used on horseback

Noteriety:

Two stats are Honor and Fame.

Honor and fame are directly affected by your actions

Wanted Level is represented by Wanted Posters

A higher Wanted Level equates to a high Fame level

If you're a notorious bandit or killer NPCs will avoid you

If you have a high enough fame you can settle disputes with words.

Wearing a bandana while committing crimes will decrease the Noteriety gained during activities

If your Wanted Level is high enough posses will be organized to take you in.

The higher the Wanted Level the bigger the posse

Two crimes include Murder of a Lawman and Horse Slaughter

Doing certain jobs, paying a bounty or bribing a law official are all ways to alleviate your noteriety

Missions:

Slightly fewer than a GTA game

Missions are longer than those of a GTA game

Mid-mission checkpoints

Story path is similar to GTA IV

Side missions:

Five finger fillet, blackjack and poker are confirmed minigames.

Duelling.

Animal hunting

Bounty hunting

Treasure hunting

If you do more treasure hunting than bounty hunting then you'll be offered less bounties and more maps. If you do more bounty hunting than treasure hunting you'll find less treasure maps and more bounties.

Animal Hunting:

All animals can be hunted

Some can be skinned

Hunting all 40 animals nets you a special outfit

Bounty Hunting:

Can use lasso to capture bounties

Bounty hunting missions are started by finding a Wanted Poster and tearing it from the wall.

Dead or alive.

Bounty is marked by a red skull marker on the mini map

Once a bounty is found the target has to be taken back to town, either by dragging the corpse behind you or hogtying it, depending on whether or not you killed them.

Treasure Hunting:

Can hunt for bars of gold.

Gold is discovered through maps, which can be earned as rewards for helping people or found.

Maps are a drawing of a rock formation or landmark where the gold is hidden

Players have to use their eyes and memory to determine where the gold is.

Gold is found by uncovering rocks, but rattlesnakes and other varmints can attack the player instead

Random Events:

Hundreds upon hundreds of random scenarios involving NPCs

Range from animal attacks to ambushes to executions to chases to gun fights. Nigh endless possibilities

Can get missions from random NPCs asking for help

List of Weapons:

Colt Police Positive

Smith & Wesson Schofield No. 3

Le Mat Revolver

Colt Peacemaker

Remington Auto Shotgun

Colt Buntline Special

Spencer Carbine

Henry Rifle

Carcano M1891

Coach Gun

Sawed off Shotgun

Winchester 73

Long Malcolm

Sharps Rifle

Kerosene Lamp

Lasso

Knife

Tomahawk

Dynamite

Multiplayer:

Online, described as "Players charging around on horses and stagecoaches and trains, shooting each other" by Dan Houser
