It would be awesome if we could buy a ranch with cattle! Ranch missions on Gun were a lot of fun. To bad there was only a few of them. I need player customization (clothes), weapons modifications and buying property. Also, the world has to be huge. At least like San Andreas.

I actually never played the original because at the time I couldn't stand western themed games but by chance when I tried Gun I became really into the whole theme. I am not ashamed to say I was so into it that I went to the trouble of obtaining Bon Jovi's "Dead or Alive" just to play during roaming the west in Gun! It shall make a return in Red Dead Dedemption I can assure you!

Well it's nothing to be ashamed of. Bon Jovi ain't bad. But the music from GUN was enough for me. It was awesome. I was always into western themed stuff. I've read every Karl May book, I've seen a lot of westerns and having a GTA-ish western game made by none other then R* is simply fascinating!

First Red Dead was just a third person action game. It wasn't free roam.

I don't know how many people actually played the first game. It was not "GTA with horses, or in a western setting." This may be closer to that but if it keeps in tune with the first it'll just be a 3rd person action game ith free roam. It'll have RAGE though :love:

One cool thing I think we can all look forward to: In wild west there are no huge buildings and there are no cars or any other motorized vehicles. That means they can focus on making a huge world (towns, badlands, forests, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, mountains, gold mines etc) and a lot of NPC's in towns, badlands, forests. That's gonna be sweet. I noticed that graphically, those screenies look identically to GTA4. Yes, it's RAGE, but the modeling style is the same as GTA4. Table Tennis uses RAGE, and models look completely different.

No doubt Euphoria is in game, its clearly the same Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) with all the things implemented in GTA IV and MIDNIGHT CLUB 4 (L.A.), it even suffering from same GRAINY SHADOWS (take a close look at shadows - same problem as in GTA IV) and GRAINY ALPHA TRANSPARENCY (take a look at grass testures its edges also grainy just as GTA IV trees) as you can see on screenhots which is already frustrating (((

 

Rockstar should rewrite transparency and shadow rendering and use other techniques.

 

btw its game from Rockstar San Diego (ex Angel studios, creators of Midtown Madness 1-2, Midnight Club 1-4, Red Dead Revolver) so they arent too much about GTA style, they good but they arent Rockstar North so their style is different in most of things.

Im very optomistic about this. I think we've yet to see the Wild West done well in game, Gun was alot of fun but criminally short. And Gun had a few issues which really ate away at me.

 

This should be a whole lot of fun and I think that the Wild West at the turn of the century has so much potential for a fantastic game.

Red Dead Revolver is still an amazingly fun game to play for some reason. Shooting people in the head in slow motion with double 6 shooters is really cool to me for some reason. I'm betting this new open world style will automatically get rid of the missions that divulged from the main character of the first game's story. It was cool playing as Red then Annie, her rifle was a beast, everyone had their own specialties. I'm really excited for this game.

I played abit of Red Dead Revolver, I enjoyed it from what I played. Once R* release more information about redemption, I might hav eto go out and pre-order me a copy when the time gets close.

Hell yes, I've been waiting for this. Was expecting the Red Dead sequel to be PS3 exclusive, but I'm happy to know that I'll be able to play it on my 360. Absolutely loved the first game, the fact that it's open world just makes it that much more awesome now. Hopefully the map will be a sh*tload bigger than GUN... what a piece of cock that was.

Indeed I would love if this was almost ready for distribution. It looks like they've been working on it for a while though so it looks pretty close. Doesn't it say Fall 09 though?

Well theyve been working on it for almost 5 years so i'd say that they got it just about finished.

I hated the first one. The tutorial started off well, but it quickly turned into arcade button-pushing. The cover system didn't work, the stealth missions were crap, and the story was all over the place.

 

I'm still looking forward to the new one though. It looks totally revamped and f r e e r o a m.

GUN sucked. RDR was way better. Seriously one of my favorite games ever. I just loved everything about it, the music, the setting, even the voice acting and animations were top notch for a PS2 game. I have a feeling that this one will surpass my expectations no matter what.

It seems the wild west has been completely abandoned in this generation. Sure Gun was there but it was just a port. I think more devs need to explore this forgotten terrain and forget about aliens and WWII.

I hope you can sandbox. Like walk into saloons and shoot up the cowboys in there and I would love if it had euphoria so when you shoot someone off a horse they fall off realistically.
