Let me just say that this game is more than i would have ever dreamed of. I don't need anything. No food, no water, no nothing. All i need is my f*cking horse and my revolver.

 

In fact, if R* decides to continue this series i'd chose a new red dead over a new gta any day.

I think it would depend on the GTA setting, but I might agree with you on that.

I think the reason Vice City was so popular was because it was so well tied in with the location and time period. With the other games in the series, it's always felt to some degree a mish-mash of "modern day metropolis" and not as focused. I think the game is better overall if a specific theme is attempted which is recognizable but different from reality.

 

There's no such thing as a perfect game and what one person enjoys and loves others will find annoying and hate. But RDR is what I want from a game. A lot of people didn't like GUN, but I did. However there was always this nagging idea in my head that it could be better if made by the GTA guys. I even wrote on the GUN forums exactly how they should do a Western GTA.

something happened in one of the final missions that I think was a glitch, but would like someone else to confirm it for me. What happened is as follows...

 

John is in the barn and tells Abigail and Jack to leave so he can deal with their attackers. Abigail rides off, but Jack appears to be hiding in the shadows of the barn to the right of the door and is not on the horse with his mother. John turns and now completely has his back to Jack [at this point I'm expecting him to say "I know you're there, son"]. John thinks about the situation looks out through the cracks [while Jack still appears to be watching and scared], then John steps out of the barn and is gunned down.

CUT TO: Jack & Abi on the horse. They hear the shooting stop and decide to go check on John.

So now I'm thnking that Jack was never in the barn and I just had some dodgy NPC not do what it was supposed to in the scene. However Jack later says to Edgar Ross something like "I saw you kill him". Can someone just confirm what happened in their version for me?

You are correct. It was just a glitch. Jack is supposed to ride off with his mom.

It's not the first time I've had glitches in cutscenes. In the stranger task; "Love is the Opiate", you meet Zhau - a slave who wishes to leave his 'master' - a butcher - and return home to be with his 'beloved'. You have to find and break a Hungarian Halfbred then give it to the butcher in return for Zhau's freedom. Well I found one and returned with it which triggered a cutscene. In the cutscene, Zhau is sweeping a porch the butcher beside him who speaks to you briefly. At least, that's what's supposed to happen. In my game, the butcher's words were coming out of Zhou's mouth, the the butcher was not present, and there was a broom just floating there sweeping back and forth on it's own. Very strange.

Very good point. I really like the fact that right now I can go back and forth playing an urban-based game with GTA and now enjoy an open world western experience. Great versatility with similar dynamics and familiar controls.

 

Vice City was my fav (prior to IV) but I'm really crossing my fingers that R* gives us a massive London 1969 revisit one day!!

 

EDIT - foohy, I see you're a Firefly fan. The wife and just finished the series and watched the movie recently. We were hoping for more episodes. Have you played Mass Effect 2 yet.. so many similarities.. I think the devs were hardcore fans!!

Randomness in Free Roam: we were trying to get the "Most Wanted" achievement with few friends (and succeeded too) in Blackwater, and in the end there started to spawn cops in the weirdest places:

There were like three times more there, and when we shot few of the more just spawned Throwing a 'mite in the middle was fun.

What can I say. I have spent almost all of my spare time playing this since it was released. Great game! Though I felt that the ending was a bit let down.

At least that was my initial reaction.

 

EDIT: I also am more hyped about possible sequel to this game than the next GTA. But it all depends where and when the next GTA is going to happen.

Is there a secret mission? Cause there's an achievement called Nurture or Nature where it says to complete the mission Remember My Family and I didn't get that mission. And I have finished the story.

Also anyone know how, where to kill a snake? I think that's the only one I am missing, but I can't find a live one. I found a dead one, but never a live one.

The best place where i've come across them is the Mexican desert area and just try to listen out the the rattle noise, although it can get a tad confusing as i'm sure the background music has the same rattle snake noise at times.

I'll still play a new GTA. I hope the Red Dead series continues, but since Redemption takes place right towards the end of the Wild West maybe for the next game it'll be a prequel. I think it would be interesting to play as John during his days as a gang member.

 

The thing I love about this game is there's no ties to anything. No maintaining friendships, no eating to survive, no girlfriends etc. It actually feels a bit like GTA III. and Vice City where it's you, your gun, and in this case a horse.

Yeah same thing here... looks awesome. I hope Rockstar decides to produce more of their goodies and sell them in the future like they do now with Red Dead. Shame how it isn't possible to pay with PayPal as I've noticed...

Was an update for this earlier, not sure if it fixed any of the glitching issues but it did add 10 new trophy slots for the co-op DLC coming in June.

Easy, take your copy of RDR, upload it on to a computer, open the files for donkey and lady then swap the characteristics.

 

It's a hack mod. Just like SMGs can fire RPG rounds and cars can fly in GTA 4.
