jaimebombas
Because you, and some of the "fans" here are pretty much idiots. My reason on why I'm saying this is because they (R*) said that GTA IV's support will not stop for a long time. So this means patches will be released, and when a new Grand Theft Auto episode is out, I'm pretty sure they'll continue this tradition and move on to that specific GTA. This makes it obvious that they will fix those bugs through patches. IMO, it's not really important to know what they are working on. Simply because if they say something about which isn't currently confirmed (so it won't make it to the final patch, only to a later one), everyone is going to be f*cking crazy about it. Simply put, this is their strategy, which is a big enhancement if you look at GTA's of the past. They only released ONE patch which didn't solve every problem. But now, they are continuosly releasing these fixes. A bad strategy i must say... I'm not saying that they shouldn't release futures patches nor continuing to support the game. It's their obligation to continue to do it until the game it's stable. When you have a rig that "exceeds" the recommended specifications, when the game says it's optimized for 64bit system and multi-core and you get freezing's, missing textures, lag's and all sort of problems... well i think the problem it's not your system but the game. Look at Farcry2... grass and trees shaking with the wind... people moving, shooting and driving and all sorts of other fx... and guess what? no issues, with all settings maxed out. Now you say "but they have already released 2 patches for the game!" TRUE, but the main difference is that the game ran perfectly well when it was released! Now that's a well tested and optimized game for the next generation systems. (wonder were i heard this expression) I think they should review their RAGE engine! With this comparison i'm just trying to say that if the guys at R* did they homework, it would run well without having to patch it. It seems they were in a hurry to release the game to catch some bucks and now they are doing what they were supposed to do before releasing the game. You could run the other GTA's without having to patch it right? Can you do it with GTA4? Well... i cant! And as far as i remember this is the first the game that i cant play because the problem it's the game. All other games that i tried to play in the past and i couldn't it was because i didn't had the minimum recommend hardware. --- Trying to play GTA4 with this system: Windows Vista 64 Ultimate SP1 MB - ASUS P5E3 Premium Procesor - Intel Q9550 Quad core @2.85GHZ Mem - Corsair 8GB DDR3 1333 Video - Powercolor ATI HD4870 PCS+ 1GB (ATI 8.12 hotfix drivers) Sound - Xfi Extreme Music Patch - 1.0.2 http://www.yougamers.com/gameometer/10296/ Isn't this a next generation system? Probably for the guys at R* it's not! Cheers! Edited February 11, 2009 by jaimebombas
noid449
i wouldnt call that a future proof system .. yes prob next gen until now , and its very nice and shiny but the i7 is latest ...also i think they mean future as in not available now (just my sarcasm) no offense meant. i just hope that a fix for the critical errors and modding is made .. ie booting us out cos people spawn like mad , or just make a server for modded games. its not like they are full anyway , alot of people still cant play online. some cant even play single player game , (and im not talking about the people with 1 gb system ram on a p4 single core cpu ) and textures , and benchmark causing lock ups and pc freezes. hopefully we will see a lot of improvement in a later patch , and to be honest if a hot dog stand or a tree or a shadow isnt there then oh well, thats not really an issue. or is AA , or clock tower times , lets get it working then iron out the whistles and bells later just my input. MorlockGod
I don't complain much on this forum, but for the love of God will somebody please change the name of this topic! Logging on and seeing a five page topic called "Patch 1.0.3.0 announced" is totally misleading. Fool me once, shame on you... fool me seventeen times, "CHANGE THE F*CKING TITLE"! Remember when Crysis was released?! There was a lot of discussion that the system back then wouldn't be able to run the game properly... only supercomputers! (the so called next generation systems) Well, back then my rig was P4 2.8, a X800 512Mb and 1Gb memory! Hell... i could play the game without freezes or any other type of crashes! Not on the max settings of course but i could play it! Crysis is by far more demanding than GTA4. It's known that their game engine (crysis) it's not fully optimized but you can play without having to hard reset your pc every 5min! I know that i don't have a future proof system... no one does! (no offense taken) i7 might be the lastet intel processor but i don't see any warning on my dvd case stating that i need to have the latest technology to play the game without freezing!!! If that's the case why putting the minimum specs??!! It would be better if they put "If you don't have a a system with the latest technology forget about playing this game". Hell... even xbox360 and ps3 users are having issues with game! Supposedly this are next gen gaming platforms! All i'm trying to say is that crap of having "a next gen system" told by R* to play the game without issues it's just bullsh*t! That's just an excuse to cover their badly coding of the game. This is called Marketing my friends!! Cheers!

TruXter
My hopes is that when the patch comes out, it fixes the ugly crap around the street lamps if you have shadows turned down. would be great if it lets us turn the game into vc looking textures like need for speed under cover does when you crank everything down lol. then everyone would be happy. but yeah right, they would have to bundle a rebuilt city in an 800mb file/patch. Seriously though, thanks Charlie. -I will now shut my cakehole- Did someone say cake?! lol, a trivial reply to a post made 11 days ago! in patch 3 (or later), i want: - fix ugly shadows (or maybe i should just use the 'ultimate graphics tweak') - fix flashing textures - missing objects back (e.g. hot dog stands) - fix digital clock on the 'clocktower' building + fix bawsaq ticker tapes - MP: dedicated server support + Anti-cheat - more optimization i.e. more fps and stability, etc. i expect a patch to be released by the end of march. r* couldn't let such a game stay broken, so more patches are defintely coming. they surprised us with steering wheel support in the latest patch, so who knows whats up for us next... Inky
Even though this game runs all right on my system, I'd like to see an optimization patch as well as the BAWSAQ and clock tower screens working. Also, I know there's a vsync option but it only limits the game to 60fps. I would love to be able to cap the game at 30fps like the console, so I wouldn't notice such a large frame rate drop at times.

Try forcing refreshrate 30 (commandline) and then enabling the framelimit.

Weses
I hope for a memory leak fix. I've tried everything other than reinstalling the game on a clean HD. I shouldn't have to do that just to enjoy a damn game... I mean seriously, come on. The stuttering and textures which take a full 30 seconds to load kill the whole experience. The 360 version also has a blue tint on the shadows. It looks a lot nicer, I hope for that in the PC version. It made the game look more realistic. I hate the way Microsoft has to approve patches. Especially on PC, it takes much longer. On Xbox 360, patches are released more often than PC. Well, as far as I can tell...

Dreddpool
I jusat hop they FIX the GFWL F**k up they made with patch 1.2 i could play online with any problems, bar the occasional LAG spike, now i cant even get into multiplayer due to some crap about me not having any external Ip address, Oh and yers i have read and tried all the suggestions about adding it ot firewall and turning off firewal and all the rest of the suggestions, yet NONE of them work, i can even log into my GFWL account throught GFWL.exe in C:\program files\games for windows live\GFWL.exe ( sorry if thats not the exact location) so there for i have a connection to the net and i can read these forums while trying to figure out why my game won't join GFWL. I also added GTAIV.exe to my firewall program and to windows which is turn off yet i still can't join. which is fricken stupid. The best thing R* could do when the next patch come out is remove the need to be logged in as all it dose is logs your game archievments, which is something i don't care about i just wanna play online with out the Microsloth crap. blocking me from doing so. E.R
Things needed in next patch for me besides memoryleaksfix (that is gone by patch2 anyway for me) is: * Offloading a sh*tload of work from CPU to GPU so even dualcore can run it ok. One good sideeffect with this is that better GFX would pay of like is should do and with some work on the game even multiGPU will scale acceptable and not like sh*t but still with 4+ theaded support as mainroute for best performace. * PhysX support to improve the game even more and make it better running for those who has it and whant to use it to boost the game. * Ambient Occlution as an extra option for thoes who wants to use it. *AA and AF option in game and overriding it in the controllpanel will override gamesettings. * Ultra High texture option that can be used in multiGPU systems with true 2GB or more Vram required to make it look a bit better and use higher viewdistance without overriding the limit that will crash the game in the end. Max out on only 60FPS is not acceptable for a new game not even using AA/AF in 1920x1200, even Crysis is better on this part and there multiGPU scale just fine, cant see any reson why GTA4 cant do the same. This way the game can be usable for low end system as well as superhighend ones and the game reflects it as it should do.
