anus
Great choice man. Its really a steal for that kind of price as you can overclock it to 4870 speeds .

Ninox777
about the overclockin...i would need to buy some special coolers wouldnt i?
anus
Overclocking what? The CPU? If so, you can overclock the CPU a certain amount with a stock cooler, but its advised to go for an aftermarket cooler. If you're looking for one, just give us a budget . Ninox777
nah my cpu i think its all right, it runs at 2,6 , i can easlily put it to 2,8 with no coolers just the amd headsink, but nah cpu is all right. He said overclock 4850 to 4870, i had expirence in past overclockin cpus with water coolers etc, but never did gpu. So i do need to buy something to cool down 4850 if i wanna overclock it? anus
Ahh I see. Well, video cards usually can be overclocked a lot with the stock cooler. I personally think that you need aftermarket cooling for a video card only if you're doing some EXTREME overclocking, with volt mods and what not. So, the stock cooler will suffice . anus
Not possible. GPU-Z probably can't detect your video card's temp sensors. There is no way it will be idling at 54C if the fan isn't running. I have a similar 8600GT overclocked to hell and it idles at 55C. Oh and with the 4850, you'll be able to play at WAY higher settings than you think . But its weird evga is confused, it shows temp of 8200 but all the clocks from 8500 i think, maybe cuz my monitor is plugged to the onboard gpu,( yea its plugged to the onboard as i f*cked up the blue plug of 8500 and when i connect monitor to the 8500 i dont see all colors, but dont worry the 8500 is running i can see it right now spinning fan) BTW: yea speed fan shows 1 core only, its because it cannot detect the 9950's quad cores, read this on forums all people have this issue Edited February 4, 2009 by Ninox777

skyjack
Nino, SLI does NOT work with all games. Works great on some games, awful on others (or not at all). Live with it. I have two 260's but I only use one for GTAIV. (and I get 50 fps all max at 1920 x 1200)
anus
My 8600GT is running fine with stock volts at 800/1900/475 (DDR2). No artifacts or anything. So you should be able to overclock atleast this much if you have a good card .
willhub
Any decent 512mb card would out perform your "hybrid SLi" setup you have now despite it having "more memory" 70 degrees is fine, my 4870 used to hit 85, it's perfectly fine for GPU's to run at high temps. anus
What's your PSU? The wattage doesn't really matter as long as it has a high efficiency, so if it's a good, reputable brand, it probably has a high efficiency.
Ninox777
My psu is Win Power ATX-
anus
I'd really recommend getting a new PSU too then. I'm sure that the PSU doesn't have enough amps on the 12V rails to drive something like a 4850. Better to get a new PSU rather than risk frying your card. Ninox777
um which one? I'm on ebay now but dunno which one, well id like a good and cheap one. Well besides i never replaced a psu before, hope its easy xD on my the psu it says something Out put +12V 20A MAX Edited February 5, 2009 by Ninox777
anus
Get this 600W one. The brand is really reputable and of high quality. Really cheap too. Only £34.99 . Edited February 5, 2009 by Warlord.

Ninox777
em thats only 425W, my is this 450W and the requirements for HD 4850 at 450W, but as you said i should upgrade, then ill do it. BTW: I only buy from Ebay.co.uk
anus
Yeah, but the wattage doesn't matter. It has 34A on the 12V rail, enough to drive a 4850.
Ninox777
so how much this A on on the 12v rail does HD 4850 need? Well im lookin right now here on the psu's
anus
The 4850 needs 25A on the 12V rail. From eBay, this here is the only PSU that I could find for your budget. Can't you extend your budget a little more? But if you can't extend the budget, that PSU will do fine.
Ninox777
well now im starting to think not to upgrade graphic card or psu at all as it will cost me too much. The psu u gave link to is beyond my budget. I think ill wait few more months then, i didnt think i was going to be upgradin psu is well. But there are many 500,600,650w psu's that are below 25quid, well they have some +12V1 and 12V2 , which one does the ati card need? Well this is startin to get complicated for me Could you give me all the good brands for psu's for my card?
anus
What about this? Get a 512MB 4850 and then overclock the card. You won't really be missing a lot out with 512MB as these cards are blazing fast whether they're 512MB or 1GB. Get this 4850 and this power supply. Absolutely no problems with this combo. Oh and the good PSU brands are CoolerMaster, Antec, Tagan, PC Power & Cooling, OCZ, Corsair, FSP Epilson. Edited February 5, 2009 by Warlord. Ninox777
could u tell me more about this A on this 12v rail, for example if i see this 12V1(20A), 12V2(20A) does it mean that is has 40 rail and will be enough for the hd 4800, or not? theres also some -12V, could you please explain to me how to add all this up? what about this one? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/500-Watt-ATX-Dual-PCI-E-SATA-Power-Supply-500W-PSU_W0QQitemZ120369511870QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_PowerSupplies_EH?hash=item120369511870&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1121|66%3A4|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1308 I mean im not lookin just for the cheapest and get it work on minimum, i want a psu that will fully work with the hd 4850, ( i am NOT going to be overclockin the gpu) Edited February 5, 2009 by Ninox777
anus
Sure, I'll explain. Manufacturers started splitting the 12V rail into two to make sure that the PSU can spread out the power evenly and not over stress one 12V rail. So if you have two or more rails, they will be for different components of the PC. For example, if you have four rails, one may be for the CPU, one for the PCI-E port, one for the motherboard and one for the hard drives and optical drives. You see, the 4850 needs 25A on the +12V rail. But the 4850 only uses one +12V rail, so its best to get a PSU that has a single rail with enough amps on it as two rails means that the power is split between the two. So you can only get 20A from one rail which is not enough for the 4850 at all, heck, its not even enough for a 8800GT. But dual rails will also work with the card as long as it's from a good manufacturer. That PSU you linked to will not work as it has only 16A on the 12V rail, there is no way that it will be able to feed a 4850.
