Note the retextured sidewalk.

If you look closely you can see the crack-texture details in the parking lot.

This image shows the retextured paths more clearly - as well as the new service holes.

Check out the detail in this road.

And this is what happens when roads turn sh*tty...

Awesome! Way better than standard ones and not so dull like those form "SA Roads in GTAIII" (same texture everywhere... it's really not a good idea)

Can't wait for the release.

I'm only releasing it as it is now because I've taken so damn long to get the mod packaged (God I'm lazy). I've already got version 1.5 in the works, which updates some of the textures and fixes some of the bugs (why did you swap the road textures left-to-right, R*? Why?)

looks pretty good, have you tried gta4 road textures? they prolly look too crisp cause of their high resolution but scaling them down would help

GTA 4's textures are designed to be used with bump-mapping - in other words, the "textures" have no detail. It's the bump mapping that adds the detail - and GTA3 doesn't support bump maps. They're not even that high-resolution anyway...

Apart from that, I don't have GTA4 and I'm not even sure on how to get the roads out of it. Besides, I find it fun working on custom textures.

V 1.5 should fix the glitches. Then for version 2.0 I'm aiming to have 1024x1024 road textures - full custom, and a lot more variety in them.

they do have detail, the normal maps are just for the lighting

theyre 512ers, you plan to use 1024ers? madness! i wonder how that will look wow.gif

Yeah, 512*512 textures lose their sheen when you see them up close, that's why I'm thinking of 1024x1024 textures. I've just gotta find a way to make them not look so damn cartoony.

GTA4's textures aren't that high-res, it's the mapping that makes 'em look good.

Maybe. I'm probably going to be making a big mod for GTA3 which will include the effects pack and road mod, among a lot of other things. Don't get your hopes up though.

Update!

I've got my hands on a pack of GTA3 XBOX generic textures (look in the pics). Basically, they're compressed images, which means a much higher bit-depth with a smaller file size. On top of that, it seems that R* were messing around a bit with GTA3 when they made it - some bits of GTA3's map use their own copies of generic textures which are in fact four times higher in resolution than the originals!

Basically, this means more time until the mod's released, however all the generic bits in GTA3 will be looking better than ever - and faster too. The original generic.txd was 9 MB. Mine, with compressed images, is 2 MB. Same goes for all the other individual ones...

Mod has been all packed up. I've opened up a support ticket on GTA Garage; the file is 7.8 MB in size. Sorry for making you guys think the mod's dead - it's not, I'm just a lazy bugger, that's all.

Release is coming soon people! Just wait a little longer, the mod's all ready, it just needs approval.

I will be posting pictures in a few minutes.

Sorry for the double post but I want to get people's attention, seeing as the mod was stalled for about a month.

Picture time!

Remember the old 64x64 wall textures? I was looking around in TXD.IMG and found the same texture - but in 256x256 res! It seems R* were kinda messy back then. Say goodbye to pixelation! (But it still could do with a 1024x1024 texture, haha)

Really looking forward to the release! Your work is always awesome!

Too bad I can't see your latest pictures in fullscreen, for me only thumbnails work (otherwise I'm getting an error message).

Waiting for your mod then...

Btw: Where did you get the xbox textures from? Did you get yourself an xbox copy?

Nice! Will you make it for sa too? colgate.gif

No, because these are basically SA textures I reworked for more variation.

Fireburns, a friend gave me some Xbox textures he'd ripped from either VC Xbox or GTA3 Xbox (I'm not exactly sure, but I think they both use the same textures).

Mod's up on GTAGarage!

You are mad GTA3 fan and I respect this. I like when you always make High Quality textures for GTA3! It makes the game to look great.

Lol, TXD.IMG is an file that automatically has been made after compressing textures to your graphic card. So it's resized because of your graphic card

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

GTA3 doesn't compress jack sh*t - even on full throttle GTA3 can only muster 8bit textures.

Don't listen to the big writing that GTA3 throws up on your screen. You can't say it unless you've turned GTA3 inside out modding it.
