1280 x 720 Fraps Screen Stretching

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I was starting to record some GTA IV machinima with Fraps. The average HD resolution is 1280 x 720, so that's what I record at. But in this game, the screen is stretched when I playback the video. This doesn't happen in other games. Only in GTA IV has this ever happened, it makes everything look annoyingly flat. I can't make it like that, any solutions? I don't want to use the video editor since I want to edit the clips with my own video editor individually.

Whilst running at 1280 x 720 in full-screen, it isn't streched. It IS stretched though when I run at that resolution in windowed mode. Also, when I record in full-screen or windowed it's still stretched when playing back the recorded file. What's up here?

My native res by the way is 1680 x 1050.

Just record it at 1680x1050 resolution if you can, or drop it down to something like 1400x1050 for a couple more fps.

I recorded this video at 1400x1050, then rendered to 1400x780. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ca2-qyusFcI...re=channel_page

Fps was about 15 while recording, but the video still looks smooth. smile.gif There are small black bars on the sides, but that's just because I should have put a few more pixels to the height of the resolution.

It doesn't have to be 1280x720. As long as it is something that fits perfectly for YouTube it's good.

1400x780 is about 10% more wider and higher than 1280x720. That's what I mean by fitting perfectly. It can't be 10% wider and 20% higher, then you get big black bars obviously.

Again, thanks adamcs. I have finished the machinima and released it. Watch it if you're interested:

The HD quality is mighty fine.

Liked the first 30-40 seconds of it alot. All in all very good video.

Just one question How do you get views like that? When I play back a video I cant change camera angle/view. How do I get a free look view?

You have to go to the video editor and go to the section where you put the clips into a small timeline which is the thing that creates RSSC videos with clips one after the other. To do the camera movements or to just simply move around, click on one of the clips in the timeline and press enter. Learn how to use it from there.
