overclocking cpu

Recommended Posts

I have AMD x2 64 5000+ Black Edition

Last night I OC mine to 3Ghz by increasing the multiplier from 13 to 15 at same voltage.

I got an FPS increase from about 26 up to 33 using the in game benchmark and it was

quite noticably running better. Cores run a little hotter but nothing too bad.

whats worse?

Sorry, haha, I made the mistake of assuming that someone who is overclocking is actually aware of stability testing.

Let me rephrase my post.

If you overclock your processor at all then you need to run a stress test for error checking.

And you shouldn't be using a software OC for 24/7 usage.

The fact that you are doing that is why I said "even worse"; I'm implying you know less about overclocking than I originally anticipated.

I've had my E6750 2,66 ghz overclocked to 3,5 ghz for well over a year without a hitch.

I get mid-30's fps on average at 1280x1024, medium tex, highest render q, View 6 (using the FarClip 3500 tweak(, Detail 100, Shadows 8 tounge.gif

Seconding that you MUST stress-test your processor for 8 to 24 hours before staying at particular clock speeds and voltages. Programs like Prime95 are a necessity... try to learn as much as you can before going into OC, you'll do yourself a favor wink.gif
