Hey there! Need some help with an issue I am having launching the GTA IV I bought last weekend from BestBuy. After installing the game + latest patch, I get an error message from securom launcher telling me I am using a backup CD instead of an original. Impossible to launch the game from that point using the game DVD. I tried using a second DVD player with no more luck so far.

Thanks for your help with that!

OK. I contacted support @ securom.com and sent them an analysis file (Right click on LaunchGTAIV.exe in your GTA IV program folder and select "Launch Analysis"). They responded back in less than 12 hours. Below is what they wrote:

==============

Hello.

Thank you for your e-mail.

Your issue can be solved with an updated executable.

Please perform these steps:

1. Open the folder 'C:/Program Files/===jeux/gta/Grand Theft Auto IV/'

2. Rename the 'launchgtaiv.exe' to 'launchgtaiv.exe.OLD' in the folder above (Right-click on this executable and go down to 'rename') 3. Download this zip-archive:

http://www.securom.com/support/customers/r...LaunchGTAIV.zip

4. Extract the new 'launchgtaiv.exe' from the downloaded zip-archive into the folder 'C:/Program Files/===jeux/gta/Grand Theft Auto IV/'

5. Start the new 'launchgtaiv.exe'

If the problem persists, please send another analysis file of the new 'launchgtaiv.exe' to us.

If you have any further questions feel free to contact us.

Best regards,

I followed the instructions and installed the new LaunchGTAIV.exe file. The game now launches as it is supposed to... with OR without the original CD. Strange!!!

A+

PS: Thanks for your assistance Jeddy... Very helpful.

Awesome. So InSecuROM just released their own No DVD .exe. I decided to download and try it since I hate having to use the DVD all the time and don't use cracks. It works no DVD needed. Haha.

omg! they're actually pwning their own protection! lool, I'd like to see R* ppl'z faces when they notice this.. tounge2.gif

does it actually work with 1.0.2.0? well, i know there's the -not allowed here thingy- for it, I can't stand putting DVDs in for any game, but i'm just wondering if this works too..

we could use this legit.. now R* sues securom & they might think about fixing the game properly with the moneyz and keep the game unprotected.. alien.gif

you sure its a no cd crack and just not a bypass cd player, like direct2drive games don't need a cd.... hence it will only work with a valid serial key....

You don't have to worry about that if you've a legit copy of the game. It doesn't ask you to enter a serial key or anything. All you gotta do is copy the new LaunchGTAIV.exe into your GTA IV directory. Don't forget to make a backup of your original exe though in case something goes wrong.

erm, you know when you install GTAIV the drm makes it so you don't have to type your serial back in, this does not get removed when you uninstall GTAIV, when you reinstall as long as it don't stop your game from running lets you reinstall without having to retype in your serial key.... It would not ask you coz you would of gone past this point...

edit:- and plz read the one before my comment before posting about what I type lol....
