Thank you Microsoft, for your wonderful service.

Recommended Posts

Thank you Microsoft, I appreciate your integrity to tell me, a person who has always played XBox from the start, that I am out of warranty for a product that you obviously couldn't produce without any fatal flaws. Well, as much as this sounds like me complaining, I am actually thanking them for giving me a good reason to invest in something better. Maybe a gaming computer, maybe a Playstation 3. Of course my mother doesn't understand computers that well and I cannot explain to her that the old Dell and the Gateway T 1620 Laptop we have are not up to par with today's gaming. I used to defend the XBox 360 fervently, but now looking back on the years of crappy service and technological errors on their behalf, I think I'm ready to call it quits with Microsoft's crappy console service. Heck, even Grand Theft Auto IV has debuted on the PC lately and already has numerous mods out, and they don't cost "Gamer Points". Now I know there are plenty of hardcore console gamers here on the forum, and I am not bashing you guys in any way. I have nothing against you guys, I agree that XBox Live is an awesome innovation and that there are some pretty good games out there, but man. Microsoft just p*sses me off sometimes. Anyone else had any terrible Microscam service stories?

Nope.

Seriously it happens to a lot of people, and if your feelings are hurt then ask your dad to take you out for ice cream or something. Welcome to life.

Lol, I said that I wasn't complaining about Microsoft's services hurting my feelings. I basically trying to say that Microsoft's XBox service has been sub-par from my experience and it sucks that a console with such great potential has these people behind it.

You got to give them some credit. They came into a field where it was dominated by Sony and Nintendo.

I do think Microsoft likes to squeeze every penny they can out of us. But that's what a good business does. How many millions have they made from $100 wireless adapters that cost a few dollars to make, or having people pay $2 for a gamer picture or theme, or and then of course there is the repairs for problems that seem to be a fairly frequent occurrence in many consoles that they don't fix for free or even at a discount, but are easily repairable, such as the spindle in the DVD drive coming loose.

That said, I still enjoy my Xbox 360 enough to pay for repairs and keep it in good shape. As for the wireless adapters and frivolous expenses, I just don't buy them.

Ice cream is delicious. smile.gif

Please think before you post.

Edited by Damo.

My only gripe with the Xbox is the controller, if they released the PS controller for the Xbox I wouldn't care which one I played. I'd probably buy an Xbox since they're almost half the price. The PS3 has it's fair share of problems as well, you'll find this out if you buy one.

Exactly, sounds butthurt to me...

@Pat: I thought the Dualshock was the ultimate controller until I got used to 360's. When I went back it just seemed too small.

Complete opposite for me, asimov. I've tried playing my PS2 recently, but the controller cramps the hell out of my hands. The Xbox 360 controller fits in my hands much better.

Guess it's down to personal preference, though.

Yeah Pat, I've heard the Xbox controller is much more ergonomic. I mean, hold your hands like you were holding a PS3 controller and see how cramped they are. If i play for a few hours I usually get sore pinkies from trying to hit the L/R2 buttons. my hands aren't even small. blush.gif

Basically out of all the rubbish I've heard from both sides I can sum it up as such

Xbox

Pros

- Half the price

- Better online support

- Often gets exclusive DLC

Cons

- No Bluray capabilities. Not to say HDVD is a bad thing, they option should be there

- Xbox live costs money

PS3

Pros

- Blurray Player

- Free online gaming

- Asimov friendly controllers

Cons

- Costs way too much

- Less DLC

They both offer some pretty good things but I have to hand it Microsoft, the Xbox is much more accessible system than the PS3, if they could minimise the hardware failures they would have a huge advantage over Sony.

PS3 is better imo. The bad things with xbox are rrod and noisy when playing games. PS3 lets you copy music to and from USB pens (i use that feature loads) but hardly any games support in-game music.

They should just come together and make a super console and beat the sh*t out of nintendo.

I'm getting pissed off with my Xbox too. I had to have it repaired last year for the red ring of death after much hassle. Now it's broken again and I presume I'll have to fork out money for something that's their fault. And the real kick in the teeth is that I just bought a 3 month xbox live gold membership and now I can't use it. And they don't even let silver members download all the demos and stuff!

Not to mention the extremely loud fans as well... But to be honest it is a great console and I do much prefer it to the PS3, although the PS3 is great as well, it just doesn't have the games I like (except for Metal Gear Solid) and their controller irritates me (whats with the L2 and R2 buttons.... they're not buttons and they're not really triggers either).

leik oh em jeez!

How do you get that 360 is half the price?

360 - $300

PS3 - $385

Buy Live for a year, and an HD-DVD player to compete with Blu-Ray, and your 360 goes up to $450; already more expensive than the PS3.

Then add another $50 for every year you'll play on Live.

To be fair, the PS3, Wii and 360 all suck ass.

That leaves me with PC, which works well enough despite a sh*tty OS.

I would love for you to give a great reason to why you think the 3 consoles suck. 360 i understand tho tounge2.gif joke (but not really).

PS3 is your answer dude if you looking for reliability.

Not making hardware fail in the ridiculous ways that 360 does is not specific to gaming. They've been in hardware market for a long enough time to be held accountable for such screw-ups.

Australian prices

PS3 - $699

Xbox - $300

I'm just wondering as I've never had any problems...but:

Has anyone had any system terminal problems with a PS3? I think the biggest problem i've heard is corrupted data that requires a system restore.

leik oh em jeez!

I've heard a few from the FIRST SHIPMENT were crashing to a BSOD after a few hours of play, which just means you lost everything you've done since your last save, and you have to hit the rest button, but nothing even near as bad as the 360's RROD.

It's funny how all 360 problem threads become a PS3 vs 360 debate. Neato, if you're having the standard RROD stuff it shouldn't need a warranty to have it fixed. Microsoft will send a coffin and you ship it to them and all you lose is your console for a few weeks. I have a 360 with no problems but I had a friend who came across the RROD with no warranty and Microsoft was happy to fix it.

I'm also not sure where the fanboyism comes from, RAWR I BOUGHT A GAME CONSOLE OFF TO THE INTERNET I GO TO DEFEND IT.
