Loste1
I just used a patch 1 exe with files patched by patch 2. The from what I can tell, everything is there. The missing hot dog venders and benches are present. So what does this mean? This means that there is most likely some bugged code in the spawning system, not removed items. Interesting thing to note when I did this, the advanced graphics options from patch 2 were present in patch 1, however, setting the vsync resets the other options like water. Well maybe you don't get the performance benefits of patch 2?

elBATCHo
I did notice today that in a lot of parts i now have 2 hot dog stnds right next to each other and some missing, guess they were just misplaced with the second path or soemthing, idk. but its weird. KMO1000
Others have pointed out that such items are not present when playing multiplayer, and never have been. It seems extremely likely that there is a minor change in the executable (hopefully unintentional) that makes these items flagged as "single-player-only" not appear when playing single player either. This is far more likely than the patch team going through and deliberately making wide-ranging changes to the map data, across the entire of the city. What's not yet known is why some people seem to avoid the problem. It could be that the intent was that the items disappear when a graphics option is set to some low setting, but that setting isn't working properly. nvr2fst
Pretty low if you ask me. If they were not in the boxed game it may not be as bad..... I guess. But since we have been playing for a while and then they remove so much, yes it is quite dissapointing. I will be honest I did not directly pick out what was wrong or different in the game when I installed the patch. I did post right after the patch that "Something just felt off". Now it is just so obvious. Pretty lame. Love this game but I am starting to get a little bored now. I hate to say it but it is true. I was playing it like mad from the beginning but now when I go to play, I am finding it harder and harder to keep myself entertained. I did not think I would say this so soon. I was loving online but the cheaters ruined it so I dont play it any more. I am just waiting for some killer Mods to wake it back up for me. Of course just for single player. I can do without multiplayer anyways.
Voodooman
yes i tested today various combination of files from different patches, and when i just used gtaiv.exe (+ bink + browser and security catalog) the objects become missing, when reverted back to 1.0.1.0 exe (with most of other files stayed from 1.0.2.0) and deleted all settings, all objects returned back. No doubt now, this 100% hardcoded and i now believe myself that its random bug not the thing that was cut out with purpose, somebody seems f*cked up that whole class of objects in game when was coding patch 2)) All that sort of objects probably have some common class, and shares some identical properties, i have noticed that these vanished objects cast no shadows in previous versions (for example these removed stairs and benches), For example this stair have no shadow at retail and 1.0.1.0 versions, when building its attached to have it) http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/8408/stairslj3.jpg and when they not appearing in 1.0.2.0 NPC acting like this objects is still there... anyone checked if the collision is still remains at place? Anyway, the only solution for now: 1) remove settings files (limits, settings. xstring) 2) Get these files from 1.0.1.0 for international version (retail 1.0.0.1 for russian users) : binkw32.dll GTAIV.exe GTAIV.exe.cat GTAIV.exe.cdf GTAIV.exe.cfg gtaEncoder.exe gta4Browser.exe pc\data\gta_cache.dat and overwrite current 1.0.2.0 files with these (if game will not start use Magic patcher or custom filelist.pak by Aru) This will return back all objects and u will still have some good things from patch 1.0.2.0 like advanced GFX options (shadow, water, reflection) and little bit more optimised differed_lighting shader, so u will have hybrid of 1.0.1.0 and 1.0.2.0 patches without most of 1.0.2.0 bugs) If u have troubles to get these files, check my thread http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=395825 , all files and list of all changes in each patch (file changes) there, unfortunately our famous mod Charming Charlie closed that topic for no reason and refused to give any explanation not in the topic he closed, not even via private message... (( [No, he didn't lock that topic. Try not to throw your presumptions around as if they were facts, lest you make yourself look foolish. - Wheelman] Oh i forget to say that u will not be able to play MP mode with 1.0.1.0 exe, live will not allow u to sign in becaus it will suggest you to install 1.0.2.0 patch, just ignore this message and play singleplayer and wait for patch 3 and lets hope it will not ruin the game even more) Edited February 3, 2009 by Wheelman
GODzillaGSPB
Great, I will do that. Thanks. /edit: Sendspace always gives me the "free service at full capacity" message. Krailer
...2) Get these files from 1.0.1.0 for international version (retail 1.0.0.1 for russian users) : binkw32.dll GTAIV.exe GTAIV.exe.cat GTAIV.exe.cdf GTAIV.exe.cfg gtaEncoder.exe gta4Browser.exe pc\data\gta_cache.dat and overwrite current 1.0.2.0 files with these (if game will not start use Magic patcher or custom filelist.pak by Aru) ... There's no gta_cache.dat file in the data folder, although I did a clean install before applying the 1.0.2.0 update. Anyway, I'll give this a try and I'll report back. ======================================================================== EDIT: Ok, reporting back... and it somehow didn't turn out so well for me. Like I said, I applied 1.0.2.0 over a fresh install as opposed to applying it over 1.0.1.0. Before uninstalling(sp?) 1.0.1.0, I copied the directory to a different location (which I've been using for modding purposes -offline via XLiveLess- since it actually runs better than 1.0.2.0 version) and used its files to overwrite the 1.0.2.0 ones. So... I'm not sure if this is the equivalent of using a hybrid of 3 versions, but anyhow, these are the results I got (click text to see pictures): 1)In-game menu option to enable/disable clip capture is repeated. 2)Reflection resolution, water quality and shadow quality are tied to Definition and VSync (as mentioned by gamerzworld), like this: -Set to low = Definition and Vsync are set to Off (and vice-versa); -Set to medium = Definition and Vsync are set to On (and vice-versa); -Set to High = Definition and Vsync are set to... eh? I couldn't load saved games, either. I'm glad I always backup stuff before doing this kind of experiments. GODzillaGSPB
Same here. Basically it works, benches, hot dog stands, everything is back. But there are two problems: 1.) As Krailer mentioned, the graphic options are somewhat limited. I could live with that though. /edit: Okay, it's not just that. Not only that the options are somehow screwed, the game also doesn't change anything if you change the settings. It looks like it runs with everything maxed out, I cannot change it and the performance is really bad. Going to reinstall the whole game now and play with 1.0.1.0. ^^ 2.) I just had the first freeze (just the game, not the PC) or GTA IV ever. The game never crashed on me before. So this could be happening because of this fix. I'll continue testing. If it crashes again I'll continue playing with 1.0.1.0 and wait for a proper patch. ^^ Edited February 4, 2009 by GODzillaGSPB
zmoonchild
I’ve been skeptical on this entire process of swapping files from different patches in a attempt to correct the missing-items problem. It really seems like wishful thinking; how does anyone actually know what that will accomplish without some sort of analysis of how each of these files were programmed (or designed) to work with each other? I’m glad that someone is making an attempt to correct these issues, but this whole idea just seems a little too random; there’s been no specific analysis of these files to see how the changeover from Patch 1.0.1.0 to Patch 1.0.2.0 caused the items to become missing in the first place, has there? Also, based on the replies, it appears that it’s not fully beneficial swap these files around; other problems arise that were unaccounted for due to a lack of understanding on how the files work together… that’s just my opinion. I’ve only done basic modding and programming, so excuse the lack of proper terminology in this comment.
KMO1000
I've been unable to get the missing stuff back by reverting - even after uninstalling, deleting all user information, and reinstalling from the DVD version they're still missing. What's that about? From a completely fresh install back to un-patched? = your are going mental or didn't fully uninstall correctly. Or fresh install back to 2nd patch? = your back to the same, so no surprise.

What's that about? Really its nonsense, with my experimentations i discovered that all missing objects missig duo of bugs of 1.0.2.0 exe file, re installation of game or simple gtaiv.exe swap return them back for sure, thats 100% proved. If u still cant see them u can try delete settings (this is paranoia, they returned even without touching settings files), if even this will not help get them back than u probably blind and just dont know what u looking for and where to look at missing object and thinking that they still missing even after u reinstalled game, when in fact they not missing anymore... again this all reminds me Placebo Effect)
pinky
Would it not be easier just pasting the older IDE and IPL files back in as they are what usually decide which map objects are spawned anyway. Maybe copy over the older mission script too.
Straubinger82
Damn! Yesterday I realized, that Telephone-cell where you can start some hitman-missions, is also disappearing. KMO1000
It seems pretty bizarre to me. I was expecting the items to return as soon as the 1.0.2.0 exe was out of the way. 3 specific things I've been checking are the hot-dog stand at Harrison St and Bunker Hill Ave, the construction work at the Broker end of the East Borough bridge, and the fire escape on the building by the Broker Bridge (corner of Delaware Ave and Oakley St) - all mentioned earlier in this thread. I uninstalled GTA and RGSC, checking the installation directory was gone, along with "Users/XXX/AppData/Local/Rockstar Games/GTA IV" and then deleted everything from "My Documents/Rockstar Games/GTA IV". I then reinstalled from the UK DVD without applying patches, and the items just aren't there. The hot-dog stand's absent, there's a lone construction worker holding a sign on the bridge and 3 cones on the other side, and just a small rail on the roof ledge of the building. I've uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times now, and can't explain it. I don't think I'm looking for the wrong objects - the only clear "before vs after" pics on this thread are of the fire escape, and that definitely is absent. I can only conclude that the bug that makes items disappear can happen with earlier versions, and isn't totally new in 1.0.2.0. I can't be certain that those 3 particular items ever were there for me, but I'm pretty confident that the orange barrels at the Alderney Booth tunnel entrance used to be there, and vanished in 1.0.2.0. (I haven't made it back to Alderney to check with the 1.0.0.0 install). Maybe it could be something to do with Catalyst 9.1, which I installed after 1.0.2.0, and is still installed...? i_speel_good
For me, nothing is missing, it must be your settings guys... It's not settings. It's far more likely that you either don't have a version 1.0.2.0 executable, or you didn't play the game enough before this patch to notice what's missing. Right click your GTAIV.exe and check the version, then go to one of the places where things are missing and see if they're there. The construction site on the bridge is a good place to check, seeing as how after the patch basically everything there is missing. I do have 1.0.2.0 and I've seen lots of hot-dog stands around. Also construction sites and cones all around the place.
tsapper
I have absolutely no issues with patch 1.02. Everything is working perfectly and There are no items missing. I have checked some places that I have seen in some screen shots, but everything is there. (Yes. I have checked the version of my executable) I think that this proves there really isn't anything removed with the patch because if there were everyone would have these issues. I believe it is more like combination of this patch and some hardware that is causing these problems. Edited February 10, 2009 by tsapper
mkey82
I played shortly with 1.0.2.0 and can confirm some of the stuff mentioned here is in the game. I have seen hot dog stands, traffic cones and those barrels. For reference, I installed a fresh GTA IV plus the 1.0.2.0 patch while skipping the 1.0.1.0. I haven't noticed any performance gains.
