MuonDecay
I cant believe this is post about missing hotdog stands...sad. Some people need to get out more. I cant believe this comment about stupid useless sh*t...sad. Some people need to get out more. Says the person sitting around wasting their time commenting on comments about "stupid useless sh*t". It's apparently worth your time to talk about, too. You've put your foot in your mouth. Back to the vendors: I think what R* did was lower the overall population of "detail" objects like traffic cones, benches, a few vendors, and other such things... made them less densely-occurring... and a few vendors probably wound up getting cut in the process. So, when they said graphical optimization, it may have just been a euphemism for quick and dirty fixes like this where they took the quickest, easiest path possible to yield some sort of result. If that's the case, these folks really are embarrassing themselves.
Pixelated
To me it's not so much that some hotdog stands (which are your lifeline for health) or some debris, construction cones, etc are missing, it's just that to any competent group of programmers this would have been out of the question. I can understand having to take some drastic measures when all other possibilities have been exhausted but it doesn't even seem like they made an effort to optimize the game. Ummm.... removing in game items to boost performance hoping no one will notice is NOT the answer to GTA IV's problems.
Cylon
I was hunting for pigeons yesterday and couldn't find it so I used a guide at YT from the console version. And i noticed that in the console v. there was a lot stuff lying around, newspapers, some debirs, shopping trolley, cans etc. and working light in the tunnel where the pigeon was. In the PC v. after the second patch there was NOTHING there, not even this damn light at the tunnel wall. I was so happy with this patch but when I noticed that the city is so clean right now... One thing though, Rockstar were very quick to point out that the Internet Cafe and Vlad mission bugs were because of anti-piracy/No-DVD crack measures. However they seem to have remained strangely silent on this particular problem. Makes me wonder if they've been caught with their pants round their ankles? Bluezman
Okay, now here's a sad story: I registered at the forums, solely to write up this answer, so I deem it a worthy issue: Before the new patch I was on my way completing all the stunt jumps. While attempting the one in Alderney close to the Helipad (link to map) I had one of the magic moments of video gaming and instantly made use of the beautiful clip saving feature. As the patch screwed up the video, let me try to explain what happened: The stunt jump is meant to be made with a motorbike and you are supposed to jump off a steep ramp that is leaning against the railing, jumping over the water and landing on the helipad. So I was taking a runup on my NRG900 (way too long and way too fast, as it turned out) and hit the ramp at full speed. Now what happened was, that the ramp was too steep to be hit at full speed so ma' boy Niko and the bike were both flying SEPERATELY through the air. Now, while the bike spinned through the air and landed on the helipad, where the jump was supposed to end, Niko landed on top of a big wooden pole, that was standing in the water! Can you imagine the chances of that, landing on that pole, on a couple of square inches?!?! After he landed, Niko stood up, standing on that pole in the water, and looked at me, like: 'wassup man, I can do stuff like that anytime'. So now guess, what happened with the patch? THEY TOOK THE POLE OUT. The funny thing is: even though the video was recorded in the pre-patch game world, when playing it now after the patch, the pole is still gone. Now Niko still lands at the exact same spot, but he is now standing in the air, 5 feet above the water. So, I had an idea for a complete little film, in which I wanted to use this clip, but now it is rendered useless. I am thinking of reinstalling the game and going back to 1.00, simply to do this film. But right now I am so frustrated, that I am not sure whether I want to do it anymore. I think this is a good example, how taking out a seeminlgly useless object can have a big impact, at least on my gaming motivation. Damn, in my plans I was gonna enter that film in some Rockstar competition... So anyway, if anyone knows hot to get the old game world back, all with hot dog vendors and poles and everything, please let me know. Having ended his filming carreer for now, --Bluezman

What are all you starting to see Rockstar can't program sh*t? I knew that a long time ago. Fanboys are starting to find their pants around their ankles. I mean come on, if you keep fanboying Rockstar is our survivor it makes you look like a dumbass. It amazes me Rockstar didn't work on the issues, and instead they still forgot about their real customers and worked on piracy. How stupid can you be? By the way, I wasn't pointing you out r0adrunn3r. I am saying from a different view. Edited January 29, 2009 by ZaCkOX

Simply removing all the ambient objects is a testemant to Rockstars LAZY attitude towards its customers. Bad developers develop bad games. Toronto said my missing textures was a memory problem and fanboys said driver issue. I knew it wasn't. After the last patch I haven't seen the problem. Goes to show. But I still hear others complaining about theirs. If I enjoy playing a game that is much older well Rockstar you did a good job. You made me even more old school. And the noobs that think this game is all fine and dandy, well if you like it like that... you can buy all the new games that will come out like this sh*t. I don't see a reason to even buy anymore. Your the ones helping kill the gaming industry.

ZaCkOX
I find it quite funny, what he said, grabbed customers by the balls. Sure the fast cracker jack hackers will release the game without testing. Then once they find out that Rockstar purposely blocked the computers from working, then they'll release a new application as well. Then they magically find out more problems and fix them too. All this to slow down the pirates, but that's all it does. Slow them down and it's already late. I mean read all the stupid idiots that have something to say even when they have a problem with just the cracked version. Are you that stupid? You have a right to demand Rockstar to fix this bug although you didn't buy the game most likely, and you wonder why it's there? Heh I read this same crap for SC 3, people downloaded the hacked version and then asked in the forums why they experienced wierd sh*t. This game really is close to my recycling bin. I have over 30 other games installed, and not to mention my cd game book has tons to pick from. This game goes to the bottom, yes very bottom. Oh wait? I have steam version, ha it doesn't deserve to be in my cd game case. I won't go out and buy the exclusive retail dvd version. Sorry Rockstar, you screwed up. Another loss of money. Hey I saved money! Edited January 29, 2009 by ZaCkOX

Cylon
Hmm. Maybe all the stuff was just relocated after all? I mean I have never seen this in my game, it happened only after the second patch. It was Xenova who said it here I think that Xenova was experiencing a different kind of Hot Dog Vendor problem, that’s why they reappeared after his reinstall. He said that he couldn’t find ANY Hot Dog Vendors at all, which is different that the problem in this topic, where there are still Hot Dog Vendors around, but only some of them are missing, not all of them. Here is Xenova's comment: Anyone noticed this? Where's hot dog stand? They just dissapeared Yep same issue here, i cant find any. Here’s the direct link to Xenova's comment. And based on what r0adrunn3r stated, a clean install+patch 1.0.2.0 (without 1.0.1.0) doesn’t help in bringing back the missing items (Hot Dog Vendors, etc): Didn't work for me. Was running a vanilla 1.0.2.0 game, re-installed without 1.0.1.0 and all the cones, stands etc. are still missing. So we’re still looking for a solution. Not all those stands are hot dog stands I don't think. There's a stand by the bowling alley in hove beach (right after walk on to the boardwalk). I think that isn't a hot dog stand. I could swear I remember going to one of those stands and getting something else. I think the real reason some of those hot dog stands are missing is because their vendors are on strike because they're tired of working 24/7.
