ortucis
syrdax, you have got to set that texture quality to High. I am running this game on my 9800GTX+ (512MB like yours) on almost the same slider setup as yours but Texture set to high. It looks amazing. SWEETSAPRIK
And the hotdog stands are in their places, all of them.Sorry if I misunderstood the post. Do you still have one in front of the bike shop in Alderney? Or in front of the building Shof linked to? Location pic There should be a vendor there. PяopagaиdaIиc. Graven
Damn, that exploding vendor was one of my favorite ones to crash into. I was little confused yesterday when I spawned to the police house near it and did not see the vendor. @syrdax. Yes, You misunderstood. That is not the vendor we are talking about. syrdax
Ups Sorry; no vendor there where you point Sweets. Didn't notice those one. I don't think is for frame gaining, there are still a lot of other vendors around ^^

Graven
Actually the one I saw gone is in the corner of Inchon Ave & Livingston Street, in front of Medical Center. So there´s more of these...maybe they retired? I cant believe this is post about missing hotdog stands...sad. Some people need to get out more. Killing people requires lot of calories. Columbo
It's not only hot dog stands that are missing. Lots and lots of park benches, fences and road cones are also missing. Maybe other items as well. I bought my copy, I want all the content that the console versions have, not less. Shame on you R*! LJSilver
X:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\pc\data\maps\props\roadside\st_vend.ide seems to be the file where the vendor locations are stored. Can somebody plz compare or post this file from version 1.0 or 1.01. EDIT: Seems that file is not directly touched by the update. Run the patch until the licence agreement. Then rename your GTA IV folder, then let the patch contionue. It will create a new GTAIV folder with the files it wants to replace. Jc84144
Come on guys, removing a hot dog stand does not increase the fps noticeable. And the other few things that are gone or are changed over to other places do not increase the fps, too. Or had anyone a fps-decrease by walking by a hot dog stand before??? so why remove them? Actually people, taking out the hotdog stands, and the roadworks will decreas CPU usage. Obviously, it's not going to effect the GPU much at all, they are quite low poly. However the reason it will decrease CPU usage is simple, more meshes (objects) in the scene, the more CPU usage is used. The CPU has to keep track off all these objects, and work out if you can see it or not (for occlusion culling). Now the hot dog stands were made of many different objects. Each wheel was 1 object, each can/drink on top was one object, the box on top was another object, the actual main body of the stand was an object, so was the umbrella, and of course the guy standing there. You're looking at around 10 objects just for one hot dog stand. Also, the road works would have many traffic cones around them, and many barriers. Each barrier is made up of 3 objects (as they break into 3 when hit). You're probably looking at a minimum of 30 objects there. I seriously think, if it was intentional of removing them, it was to decrease CPU usage by removing the very things that they thought people wouldn't notice. It's certainly not due to realism as some of you suggest. If they wanted that they would have made them move or disappear during certain parks of the game, and would have been programmed from the beginning. Not just remove them all with a patch. LJSilver
It's not only hot dog stands. Traffic cones, phone booths, debris, fences, newspaper vending boxes etc. If you have played GTAIV for a long time like me you immediately see how empty the sidewalks are now. I will reinstall 1.01 tomorrow and be happy with it.

I know there are a lot of R* sympathetics around here, but... Wow. You're totally missing the point. It's unacceptable for R* to remove debris in order to improve fps. And it's even worse for you to forgive them for it. Now that is a shame.

I have finshed story mode and now I try the minigames, races and play just for fun like I did with every other GTA until the next part came out. But Liberty City isn't a living and breathing city anymore after the patch. It feels slightly empty and sterile now.

warlordcs
not sure if anyone has thought of this but have you concidered that R* diddnt remove anything like this at all? that maybe it is just a bad side effect from the patch, like the not being able to use cybercafes anymore i can see taking little details like this out of a halflife map to increase performance, but this is a large sandbox like world to play in, surely such small things couldnt have but a 0.01% change in performance, granted if you take out 1000 street cones you would have somewhat of a noticeable differance, but there isnt any place in the city where the game actually draws literally 1000 details all at once, once these details are outside of your render distance than they are no longer calculated anyway. but before we accuse and assume, why not see of toronto mentions any reasoning for this. Still, the game doesn't show anything new or next gen even with the hotdog stands. If the devs at Toronto think that optimizing a game is equall to removing things from the program than they're far off the right way.As i said, this game throws in nothing new,and if the only way of getting higher FPS is this,i'll pass.Seriously, why don't they fire these guys?Like:"We're terribly sorry. It's not personal,we just need someone with actual programming skills, that's all...."This game makes me want to go back and play Assassins Creed, sure,it's boring as hell, but at least i can play that game almost on max with no stutter or anything.
